I wasn't expecting this much background story for this match of the tournament.

Peyote Diaz faces off against a very determined Chocolove. I like the Ayer Rocks reference this episode though, a neat little addition to the episode's elements.

This episode was soooo close to perfection. All they had to do was to cut the ED and fully play the alley scene

So close. Otherwise a really good episode

Interesting backstory for Chocolove. The whole "let's stop nonsense violence by making people laugh" thing still sounds kinda forced tho.

Anyways, that aside, I wasn't really expecting Chocolove to be the most violent member in Yoh's group.

Feel like I'm missing more backstory with Chocolove's development with Shaft being cut short or something? After killing the old man then seeing them at the tournament they're just still friends?

Peyote Diaz vs. Chocolove, and the former got more than he warranted for by manipulating Boz for his gain.

The latter's Christmas backstory feels a lot different than whom he was before all hell broke loose. To make friends with this comedic punny old man Olona who uses laughter to save the world and simultaneously a Shaman fighter with the jaguar Mic, fate draws for Chocolove a 2nd chance away from his former Shaft gang who knows nothing but drawing from anger and violence.

His Gag Wind Oversoul against Peyote, as forced as it is, makes for an unique power that only Chocolove can do, and Ren assisted in decimating the team with Bason. I've gotta admit that Chocolove, as weird as he is with his taught "saving the world with laughter" mantra, he's someone that I can admire, and that's a win for Ren's team.

Oh ho, Lyserg is part of the X-Laws for real?

They aren't still friends, Chocolove made them his friends. Instead of letting his anger control him and taking revenge, the most brutal killer in Shaft chose to forgive and save them. We do not see the process neither in the anime nor the manga, but the shot where all of them are paying respects by the grave shows us that he was able to get across to them and they all realized that they DO have a choice.

It's honestly very heartwarming that Chocolove didn't abandon shaft after turning over a new leaf, instead he first helped them just how his master helped him.

And frankly, I love the notion that they came to support him in the tournament even if they can not see ghosts and basically have no idea what is happening 90% of the time.

Well I'm glad that part's over and done with. I remember it from the original anime and always thought it was so stupid.
Anyway best girl is finally showing up next episode. THE HYPE!

Ahh, makes more sense now thanks! Was afraid I was missing the context of the story again due to the pacing changes.

Chocolove’s backstory was pretty hard to watch. But in a very realistic way, he used comedy to cope with the pain of his past. Ayers Rock was dope, loved the animation during his Oversoul. One question I’ve got is why is he cool with the people that killed his sensei? Like it’s not enough forgiveness or comedy in the world for me to do that(assuming that the people we see cheering for him are the same ones in the flashback)

Whole theme of Shaman King is reaching Zen. Forgive others, forgive yourself, be one with nature, stay calm, stay happy, stay humble, stay bright, etc etc.

Chocolove basically the one who do comedy (with oversoul Mic) to shaft people, to erase their violence. He erase his own anger... since you can't make people laugh and happy if you hold an anger or grudges

Chocolove's past appearing on the show is there were things that he really got stronger with the fight, with his Master's death it was very sad.

Soooo Chocolove was a cold blooded killer? Totally didn't expect that type of backstory. If he truly learned forgiveness, shouldn't he seek it. The kid he was supposed to have received that toy cop car should pop up as his arch enemy.

I also like the comedy bit with ren at the end. It made a nice contrast to the majority of the episode

It's surprising to get such a dark backstory for Chocolove but it was great, and team Ren won the 1st match... damn that annoying Lyzerg at the end

(Anime-only)

Because of the team requirement, we have cultures interacting that you wouldn't expect. Mariachi and Japanese Buddhist monks.

And now for Chocolove's backstory.

Too highbrow humor indeed (Chi=blood).

Shaft ended up supporting him at the Shaman Fight, that's nice.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

Chocolove Ayers rock. WTH?!?. "the kangaroo is my own touch" xDDD
Chocolove's backstory got little rushed, but I feel we got the important points. and unlike Ryuu's training "arc", it was paced much better.

Seriously the animation got much better since this tournament started.
