The timeloop of nightmare dreams down to the last call for Rika...

The progenitor of the Oyashiro-sama curse...is to finish Rika with the whims of the master hallucination syndrome, even if 100X mutliple years aren't enough for suffering in Hinamizawa, thr brainwashing of normal humans that tore relations apart to the point of no return.

Back to present day, and a beach scene lols...what a disconnect. But Satoko knows fully well how much Rika is suffering from within (just not without the curse in effect). The scene of bringing back Episode 1 with the whole Hinamizawa Dam situation, it's a stark contrast to how many loops that Rika have went through, and erasing the arcs that happened here in Gou, and the impending intertwining fate of doom.

Rika meeting Tomitake and Takano...I'd presume they're the culprits of this Nekodamashi-hen arc, but whatever may come next week will tell the full story to the end of this arc. The Question-turned-Answer-turned-Question arcs, what a cluster.

What the heck, I thought it would be yuri route. Horrible early minute, I think it's Rika's last chance. That dream also includes a curse, the story of the horrible beginnings and screams is so disturbing. As usual the black sensor is so annoying.

Satoko uses the painkiller injection every day, Even though Rika are a shrine maiden, Rika breaking Oyashiro-sama's commandments. That's right, The desire to leave Hinamizawa is a prohibition that cannot be broken, It's like Rika betrayed Oyashiro-sama. Satoko being a Shrine Maiden is very strange, because Shrine Maiden can only do by Furude family. Stop this torture, 12 minutes filled with Rika-sama torture.

It was a beautiful memory but if it ended in tragedy, anyone would want to leave Hinamizawa ofc Rika too. Rika's feeling not to leave Hinamizawa is strong enough here, the conversation with Satoko also supports her feeling to stay in Hinamizawa.

After the tragedy in the 12 minutes starting the last 12 minutes just having fun, it's just what needs to be talked about? Rika and Takano-san

Rika can get through this tragedy just only by loving Hinamizawa and look like next eps still Nekodamashi

They censored the stab wounds in episode 4 but Rika having her guts casually hanging out was just fine to show on TV? I mean, why not right.

Satoko is the one who finishes off Rika in the last one. Seems Rika is going to take the approach of appreciating Hinamizawa. This episode was really really really gore heavy.

If Rika has lived over 100 years. Then let's say she dies every 2 weeks. That means Rika has died around 2600 times..

feel so bad for rika...

Jesus Christ they censored Rena stabbing Keichi to death but Satoko literally pulling Rika’s intestines out is ok?? Re:Zero also censored that in the first cour.

That was really hard to watch, Rika’s just been through so much. Too much. But at least she’s finally beginning to get to the root of everything. Ngl tho, I’m not a fan of how she’s basically being gaslit into loving the village and not wanting to leave.

Takano looks like she’ll be the last big hurdle.

It was censored on live tv. Funi has been releasing the uncensored versions since episode 13

Satoko gaslighting Rika into stockholm syndrome is freaking me out. I really think that Takano is going to end up helping Rika escape.

Different time slots.

Satoko whole story is probably a red herring with maybe a tiny hint of the truth, I doubt R07 would seriously write a story where the whole message is "You shouldn't leave your hometown", frantically there isn't anything wrong with Rika's behaviors that deserve such inhuman punishment.

Satoko herself is probably not the culprit.

I guess Rika probably figured there is something off with Takano, wow it only took her 16 episodes to actually investigate that plot point!

I'm thinking they purposely censored Rena stabbing Keichii to make us think it would all be censored to shock us later after this episode haha. Newcomers to the show won't understand those flashbacks or Takano's importance maybe next episode they'll explain it for them. I believe Takano isn't the enemy here and is about to warn Tomitake and Rika about something else. After all she didn't break into the shrine this time around which she always did for her research. I don't believe this is the final loop but Takano might drop some big information next episode we'll just have to see.

I don't know who would punish her like that... Oh wait I do! Hanyuu sent Rika and Satoko back into the loop and gave Satoko looper powers in order to punish Rika for making her lonely! This kind of cruel thing has Hanyuu's fingerprints all over it.

Either way Ryukishi will throw a curveball.

Well that was very gory. Kinda hard to watch ngl. And as mentioned it makes the earlier censorship in the show seem awfully inconsistent

Also it seems kinda weird if we're just converging towards Takano now when we haven't really been having much of a consistent foundation for the mystery throughout the arcs. Like in the original Higurashi everything starts the same and then gradually goes in different directions depending on the slight deviations, but here it's been so all over the place that it just seems random going that direction now

Just when you thought the show couldn't get any more gruesome.... WTF Satoko! xD. Btw, how was Rika alive for so long with her bowels exposed and then cut in a half? o.O

And then... BEACH EPISODE!!! I certainly enjoyed it but come on, make it one of those SOL episodes from the early part and not just 2 minutes of fun after watching Rika get butchered xD.

Everything was going too well but obviously something had to happen in the end, I wonder what Rika was going to say about Takano? From the flashbacks you can tell Takano and Tomitake are important but so far not much is known about them. Also, I don't think that staying tied to Hinamizawa is the fairest solution to all this.

So many flashbacks and answers that probably won't be answered in this season... damn it, I should have watched the previous seasons a long time ago but whatever, I'm loving it anyway. It will be interesting to watch the old series after having seen the finale though.

They even threw in some swimsuit service in this episode and now Rika confronts Takano. What does she wanna talk with Rika, is it what we think?

Garbage episode. The message was literally 'don't dream of having a future or else you will get punished'.

Like... what? Rika worked hard to get out of those time-loops so that she could have a future and now they(the writers) want to torture her for having a future...
Wasn't Umineko's message to not dwell in the past to get to a greater future? What happened here then? In fact, wasn't the main message of the original Higurashi WTC the same as Umineko's as well?
Anyways, enough about my ramblings

Some theories:

  • New Oyashiro-sama is Featherine. I think this is pretty obvious since Hanyuu died. This was also the point where everything crazy went down. (Akasaka, Mion's/Shion's Mother, Kimiyoshi)
  • I said this in one of the previous episode threads, but I don't think Takano is the culprit just because she had no connection to any of the previous incidents.
  • I don't think Satoko is the set piece either since she is a victim of the curse as well.

Overall, this may be one of the worst episodes in this anime.(Just my opinion though)

STOP HURTING RIKA FOR A MINUTE FFS. That scene was really gory, even for Higurashi standards. Satoko pulled Rika's intestines like they're some fucking sausages. The swimsuit scene made me relax a little. Though, Rika's suffering is far from over.

It probably more closer to, "don't leave Hanyuu and Hinamizawa, because you made her lonely so now you have to suffer". Basically Satoko is gaslighting Rika into Stockholm Syndrome.

It's obvious a red herring and she's being brainwashed.

Thought the real question is what the fuck is Gou's message though and it will related to the original story's message.

I really hope it is a red herring, the message from the original Higurashi is too different ("You should talk to your friends and ask for help" to "How dare you to leave your hometown where you suffered for 100 years and wanting to experience new things in a new town"). If it isn't a red herring then that would also mean that Hanyuu is a pretty big jerk lmao.

I wonder if Takano will be the villain like in the original Higurashi for the final loop or we'll get our expectations subverted and she'll talk about something different?

Trust me when they say that not everyone can handle Higurashi. This episode really got to me, I mean ofc I could watch the whole thing but got a little grossed out in the middle, the intestine removing thing was next level and that went on for a good amount of time lemme tell you. After that she just moves on to the next world and finds happiness but I reckon shes just gonna die again or something for sure, cant end that easy… The horror actually kicked in this time to be honest. Loving this series and cant wait for some more.

I couldn't dismiss the feeling that something bad would happen by the end of this episode, having bright fun moments just after seeing Rika being lacerated inside out didn't feel right... But well, gladly we still have 9 epis to go, it would be very sad (to not say trashy) if all these arcs' morale were that Rika can't leave Hinamizawa and live her own life in her own way.

By the way, is my memory being tricky with me, or this ep and the one before it were way gorier than the original anime? Maybe they're trying to compensate for Watanabe's "moe" character designs idk...

I dont mind that Rika failed miserably again, I dont mind that Satoko did all that and I dont mind the gore.

But holy shit why did it take Rika so long to die?Sure anime characters can endure a lot and lose gallons of blood but come on. The part where she remained alive for so long after her upper body was torn off had me rolling my eyes. Keichi and Tomitake take while till they manage to hurt their throats and they die right after that. Satoko and everyone in Gou apparently have Wolverine's claws for nails and dont mind the injury at all.
I dont even care about the stupid message Gou is going for and how a woman that is 100+ years old mentally was brainwashed by a freaking child.

And then we have an obligatory beach(river) episode and we have to pretend like the previous 12 minutes didnt happen.

If Satoko is just a red herring then it is a pretty bad execution, making her seem like she knows so many stuff that she shouldnt. Also was getting BernxLambda vibes at the start before it all went downhill.

Rika shouldnt agree with her. She should go full postal to release some steam. I cant even see Bernkastel as an evil witch anymore.

And of course it ends right when it got interesting. It ends at the moment Rika and Gou should have arrived 14 episodes ago.

I hope people who watch this only for the gore got heir fix.

Ikr? I'm vehemently trying to believe R07 is just tauting people to see if they'd believe a theory that goes against everything both stories have meant so far. I mean, Satoko just spillied it so clearly when there are still 9 episodes this season... Maybe it's just delusional talk due to her syndrome, but that seemed so convenient along Rika's fears that she just took it for granted.

I'm trying not to form any solid opinion before the season's ending, but if it ends like this, with everything being solved by Rika having to lock herself in Hinamizawa, this season would be a total garbage imo too.

I really don't think that was the message. Humans have limited lifespans & the time we have with those we love never seems to be enough in retrospect once they pass. Rika focuses on her own suffering, even when an arc is about helping another suffering friend. She's not selfish for wanting to leave Hinamizawa. It's what precedes that choice that makes her selfish.

It's like Magicmist says. Rika is being gaslighted into this way of thinking. OBVIOUSLY it's not wrong for her to want to leave the village, considering everything. That could never be the message, because it's objectively fucking wrong. It's perfectly fine for her to want to leave, and she should be allowed to leave.

Holy shit, someone with an actual brain has appeared in this thread. I agree with you, this is basically Umineko Episode 3 all over again, with Satoko acting innocent, and helping Rika out in order to back stab her. Mainly because if Rika kills herself, everything is over. Satoko, and whoever is behind Satoko actually masterminding it (featherine, hanyuu, that other god from Outbreak), needs Rika to not kill herself, so they are doing everything in their power to try and give Rika some semblance of hope.

The problem isnt if this is the message but that Rika was actually gaslighted by a child. Even if this is what Rika temporarily thinks, she somehow was manipulated into accepting it.

Rika isnt Battler after 2 loops. Rika isnt a lonely 18 year old girl like Ange who just witnessed the worst truth. Satoko is no witch.

There is no reason for Rika to fall for that, especially when the reason why she was fed up with this village was happening at that moment.

Your points don't add up. There was already foreshadowing from the previous episode that Rika was already in an unstable mental state. These loops, along with SPECIFICALLY LOSING HANYUU, are what made a mindbreak possible. Rika says so herself, that she never would have been able to stay sane for 100 years if she didn't have Hanyuu. This is 100% consistent with Rika's own character. Rika was able to survive 100 years of loops because of the fact she had Hanyuu. She no longer has Hanyuu, and after 6 of the worst possible fragments Rika has probably experienced with absolutely no progress made in any of them, her mental state would be crushed by that. Not to mention she is hearing all of these words from HER BEST FRIEND. And you end up in the scenario where Rika is mindbroken. You say that it's impossible, but you are just forgetting and ignoring important character details for Rika and are passing off your mistakes as the writer's mistake.

It's pretty funny that people are randomly complaining that the show wants to give the message of never leaving your village when Rika herself fought to live with her friends in the original series, but ok.
Rika after achieving the miracle thanks to the support of her friends who fought alongside her:
"Hasta la vistaaaaaaaa"

The episode focused on why RIKA HATES HINAMIZAWA.
Unfortunately, we have reached the point where you have to complain about everything

You say that it's impossible, but you are just forgetting and ignoring important character details for Rika and are passing off your mistakes as the writer's mistake.

So Rika is fine for 100 years but the moment she is alone she reverts back to child. Please...

And why are those the 6 worst? What happened to the ones where Keichi doesnt come to the village?

And no it isnt 100% consistent with Rika's own character since we have never seen Rika act like this the moment she is left alone.

I wont bother with more replies since it is obvious you would trust R07 or whoever is behind this with your life.

I imagine people arent allowed to have fun and higher education in a town in driving distance from the village, because meeting with friends would be so incredible hard....

Incredible.

Finally we got a good amount of gore in Gou. I really missed the bloody scenes from the og series and Gou has finally (kinda) delivered. There were few good scenes in the previous epsiodes: Rena vs. Keichi, Teppei killing Keichi or Oishi's rampage, but they weren't as good as the ones in the og series. I still can't figure out where is the story but
I suspect the ending this time will be very different from Kai, which will probably be a good thing. Depends on the execution.

Who said this? That's a really bad cherrypicking man. I have never said that she is not allowed to do that, but there is no point in abandoning everything out of the blue after establishing such a strong bond with people whom that she can literally defeat fate. Rika's abandonment of the village stems from the fact that for some reason, after all that has happened, she HATED HINAMIZAWA AND ITS PEOPLE.
