| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Well, that is one unusual kingdom, or at least the circumstances involving their King. On the plus side, we got more of Elaina and Saya together with their character chemistry. The investigation led to the witches to the king directly and spelled out for some trouble. I find the episode kinda comical in some ways. Elaina's magical skills also showed again when she fights the King directly. |

| Well this was pretty interesting and it showed that lies don't always have to be a bad thing. Always telling the truth can be very painful and in this case it made the country a very quiet place and the people had a lot of stress. Luckily things got solved in the end. Saya appearing was funny she is obsessed with Elaina and she didn't hide that fact |
| The Country of Honest People, not a single lie can be spoken nor written in the kingdom, what uniqueness. *Sorry, I cannot talk lies in this episode. Monkey see, Monkey hear, Monkey do.* The Charcoal Witch, Saya IS BACK! This meddling thirsty girl of Elaina's gonna be another case of trouble again...but the trouble's not from her, but from a witch who's lost her voice for a sacrifice from being the king's right-hand to eradicate all lies for such powerful magic. Pretty weird if you'd ask me. Pretty comical of Saya and Elaina to twist the truth with little lies, and even in the fight for freedom. Love the back-and-forth banter of "Is it truth or lies?" between all parties, and Elaina flexing her magic again to give back power to the people. HEH, VERY ENJOYABLE and funny episode. I approve. See you again Saya! *Pinky promise* |

| This was one of the best episodes! I don't think that truth barrier effected Saya. She always speaks the truth about Elaina, like marrying her or sharing a bath, etc. |

| An interesting country Elaina visited this time, with the truth and all that. We got to see Saya this time and now she's a witch herself which is pretty cool. And she pretty good when she was taking down the guards. |

| Another beautiful episode with an important life lesson. Not all lies are bad, and in fact, sometimes they’re necessary to avoid hurting people. I’m actually surprised Elaina took on the task of destroying the sword considering her usual stance on getting involved in things as she travels, but that animation during the fight with the king was amazing. I’m glad Saya got to see the witch she loved again, she’s so adorable. Hopefully they see each other again one day. *crosses shipping fingers* |

| Elaina get lost to the weird country again. Now, its a land of a truth teller, where everyone couldn't even lied even with a single word. But, Elaina could easily found a way to trick those magic and resolved the problem around the falsehood gap. What made this episode had more interest where suddenly Saya appeared in front of her with all of her usual antic. Ah, whatever you said Saya, whatever. I know you were so be honest to yourself about your feeling to Elaina. But, Elaina was not in a good mood to laid a nice commitment for you. So, yeah the whole tease just need to be post-poned. Elaina's reaction while dodging all of Saya true feeling against her was just a funny thing on these episode. Surely, she couldn't prevent any lies and a falsehood. So, she just need to dodge all of the direct statement that launched by Saya and decide to stay in silent xD. Well, back to the country problem. Its not a big deal. However it was indeed interesting how the truth could be so much trouble for the whole country, and a lies was not so bad to happen. Maybe they just exaggerating the thing, and the witch granted such an overwhelming wish. As the result, the country fell down into a gloomy nuance and peoples couldn't even feel a happiness anymore. Be glad, there were Saya and Elaina that come to helped them out of their miserable daily life. And fortunately everything could be resolve without a bloodshed. Its nice and pretty relaxing for me! About why Elaina decided to help. Hmm, its because of Saya. What else? The power of a true friendship could overwhelm anything. Even the whole promise. Lol. I guess thats it for me! |

| This show is starting to contradict itself. In the 3rd episode(the most controversial one), Elaina didn't care about anything that happened around her and kept her carefree personality. A lot of people who defended her(I was one of them) said Elaina kept her promise to her mother, she didn't get into trouble and kept a safe distance from anything that might end up to be dangerous. For some reason, Elaina is saving a country that has nothing to do with her in this episode. Which is the exact opposite of what she has done in the 3rd episode. I don't know what Majo no Tabitabi wants tell about to us anymore, they're just releasing random episodes and destroying their own ideals. |

| Damn, what a very unique episode in all of my anime history, and I'm not gonna lie. A country where people never lie...and it does bring some interesting story. The Ashen Witch sets foot on "The Country of Honest People", and it really lives up to its name. These people may be silent but when they speak, they sure are not holding back with their savagery. Elaina is right in the mix as she's showing up her narcissism again, but I'm gonna let that slide. Saya is BACK! Now she is a witch as we previously saw back in Ep.2, and she is titled as the "Charcoal Witch". That exchange between her reunion with Elaina was so funny (those faces are really golden). We also got to meet a new witch Euphemia, which lost her voice and magic for her king (so if this was a harem story, she's clearly best gir-) and she teams up with Elaina and Saya to destroy this "truth barrier" that the king has control on. The fight between Elaina and the king was not special but it was a bit entertaining. What's more comedic is Saya's fight with the knights (and damn their savagery on Elaina's flatness and Saya's boyishness is on point). The king now realizes the importance of lies, and I too agree that lies have some goodness in it. With the kingdom back in normal, Elaina once again departs into an unknown place. But before she leaves, Saya gifts Elaina a necklace and puts it on her neck and it was dear lovely! The promise is now set (as we saw in the OP) and I'm sure they'll meet again somewhere either by fate or just a tricky coincidence. |

| Great episode again. An interesting country, where everyone spoke the truth. I had the same impression as Elaina initially. I expected the country to be full of pure hearted people but it couldn't be further from the truth. People just avoided speaking, blurted out insensitive things while speaking and even writing things that would hurt their own business. Saya coming back was very nice and her reunion with Elaina was great, I loved those initial reactions with Elaina just completely straight face and Saya just completely beaming and totally fangirling after seeing Elaina. Got a good laugh out of that one. xD Some of the blunt comments throughout the episode were very amusing, like when the soldiers surrounded the witches. Elaina teaching the king the importance of lies, it's only because of lies that the truth has so much value. Final scene between Saya and Elaina was very nice, pinky promise. :( |

| After 2 weeks of controvesial takes and a reunion with Flan, this episode was fun to watch and Saya being back for a week was lovely. The concept (well yes) had so much potential, and they can take this in another dark-toned episode again. But I'm not complaining on where they took this episode. It's interestingly fun, comedic and hey we have a heartwarming scene with Saya. |

Kino’s Journey Lite has been a delight so far in the first half |

| It would've been more genuine had Elaina checked the legitness of the magic by conforming her smugness instead of her looks xD It was an enjoyable episode again, but I really don't like her. And lol, I mean, the whole series is often really in your face, but explaining the plan was such a captain obvious moment. |

| This show continues to amaze me with its physical and thematic presentations. Elaina's analogy with the sword and the scabbard being equivalent with the relations of truth and lies, respectively, was low-key a good moral lesson taught. Saya and Elaina's dynamics and chemistry were really wholesome and amusing, and let's face it, Saya is likely from Japan (or something equivalent to Japan) and she's gay for Elaina. The animation continues to impress me, too. Looks much better than most of the other shows from this year (especially a particular sequel I won't name). The only qualm I have is that the episode went by too fast lul. If this isn't AOTS, I dunno what is. animejas said: This episode genuinely reminded me of the Kino's Journey anime premiere where the place there had all of its residents drink a serum where they could read each other's minds to form peace and understanding with each other but descended more into chaos then. Nice seeing Saya again too over here in this episode, and seeing her bond with Elaina was nice. She's definitely grown from where she was before in episode 2. It was definitely a really good episode, too bad it felt too fast. I think the show is going for 4 episodes per volume. By this point, I should look for a translated scan of volume 3 at some point or ask to borrow the physical English release from someone. Sucks that volumes 4-14 aren't out in official English release yet. |

Anyway, Compared to the standard Elaina this is a weak episode for me. It's somewhat darker episode this time with lighthearted tone and vanilla-sweet conclusion. The idea was nice, but the executon just feel flat. A Country where everyone cannot lies and of course the result of this the citizen are suffering because lying is part of human nature. So it was understandable they become apathethic/untrusful towards everyone. I also found 'the 'hole' when 'the writing scene' happen in this magic barrier that you can make ' a truth' by simply intentionally lying and the writing is automatically be the opposite. The problem for me by intentionally lying to write the opposite of writing isn't it also means he is not lying to herself, but also lying the barrier and what written on the paper should be the lie not the truth. I don't know it seems nitpicking but I can just let it slide because that's not the whole point of this show. Something about truth and lie is quite complex and I don't think this episode pull it right. But what makes me thought this episode is weak is the fact that intelligent person like the royal guard not thinking about this kind of 'hole' considering they're living their life here and somebody like Elaina only just arrive who found it at the instant is probably the first person they've ever met. Making her way to the palace is a walk in the park and unbelievably easy. Also to found somebody like a King wanted a full fledged honesty in his kingdom is just a fairy tale to me. Well what I can say is this is very fun anime this season. Also is there anyone thinks Saya is like Megumin ? because I do. |

| This episode had an interesting premise and I genuinely thought that Elaina was gonna say she's not beautiful when looking at the mirror lol. That would've been hilarious, one of anime's greatest plot twists. It's nice that some characters keep making constant appearances in this show and I liked that this episode in particular showed the other side of honesty. Cool speech by Elaina when dealing with the King and we finally got an episode with a happy conclusion. I hope everyone's satisfied that she offered to help, not like she had to anyway, but it's probably thanks to Saya's influence on the matter. Looking forward to the next episode. |
| "Welcome to this damned country!" "Miss Witch, are you an idiot?" "Saya." "You called?" "NOT YOU." These are the moments I got a chuckle out of. A funny episode. I like it but definitely not the best episode for me. Felt like it's out of character for the show and Saya turned 180 just to be a gag character and a yuri ship. (I don't hate yuri btw.) This episode should be an OVA or something. The country itself already sounds like a joke. z00nex said: Nah, bro. | Why would you trust a vendor who doesn't speak in order not to tell the truth? That's the one thing that didn't make sense to me. As a buyer, I'd say "speak and prove that those bread are fresh you coward!" Yeah, people lie to each other all the time but I'm surprised that no one forces vendors to speak and just go along with their lies and buy expired bread and stuff. |

| Here we go again! One of this corny "nobody can lie" episodes that things like Buffy or Supernatural always use to force out whatever the secret of the season was. Not for any real reason. The king doesn't like liars! Cause, you know… lying bad! Except lying good because everybody is at their core an evil person unless they're a teenage girl because EVERYONE is EVIL but Teenage Girls. Now that's nuanced social commentary! Except this somehow managed to be even worse than those because there was no deep dark secret (except reaffirm that narcissistic complex that has Elaina), has everybody except the trio of squealing teenagers turns out to be asshole, and their big plan for getting around not being able to lie was… to lie. Seriously. The workaround was to write things that were true, and then use them in situations where they were untrue, falsely presenting them as fact. You're unable to tell lies of omission, and forced to be overly truthful even volunteering unasked for qualifications, but holding up a "no" sign that you wrote in response to a different question when the answer is "yes" isn't lying. Also, it's not even clear why they had to lie. What was keeping them from just flying over the walls or fireballing a guard in the face? They had zero compunctions about doing so as soon as they got past that guard, but how else were they going to show how clever they were! |
| well the king felt like a Saturday Cartoon Villain. I was expecting much more from the consequences of not telling lies for example: pedos if they can't lie, then they are automatically in jail just for saying they prefer young girls over old hags. I'm saying as someone who once frequented Discord. even though 18 is just an arbitrary number without any logic or science. that should be a good reason for a retribution. |

| We once again are acquainted with the flaws of Elaina; she could only go out to help others or meddle in very favorable conditions. There's nothing wrong with that, but the character writing needs more depth for that to appreciated as a realistic trait. The forgettable character of ep02 is back, and this time, thirstier than ever. The king probably had a discarded sword of Tsubasa Kazanari in his palace. The basic premise of "not all lies are bad" is not very original, and they had to do something good with it (which they mostly didn't). I liked the scabbard and sword analogy, guess the writer also tries sometimes. Elaina's weird magic is utterly convenient for certain events - imagine how OP is a conditional time stop magic. Also, are witches (rather the class, not the term which is mostly associated with female) only female? Honestly this has been a tiring watch, but I can still struggle to keep up with it without dropping because it's once in a week. Striving to be a completitionist is really tough! |

| What an enjoyable episode! By far it's one of my favorite episode for this anime! Love the ship tease between Saya and Elaina. The fact that She wasn't affected by the truth barrier means that she really was telling the truth about marrying Elaina. Can't wait for another episode where Saya and Elaina meet each other again. | This episode was great I liked it alot. Saya is so cute and funny and her different reactions to seeing Elaina, while Elaina was just straight faced was hilarious. Also Saya at the thought of them staying together for a month was pretty funny too. The ending was cute. Also to LN readers, that was 100% the muscleman at the end! |
