THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- This movie was everything I hoped it would be and I am so glad it lived up to my high expectations. I wasn't sure how the sex scenes would be handled but I'm alright with the way they were done. The contrast of Doumeki wanting emotional intimacy vs Yashiro wanting only physical makes for a really interesting relationship. I love how Yashiro handles being a high ranking yakuza while also being a shameless masochist bottom. He somehow uses his sexuality against people who try to shame him for it - he just completely leans into his reputation to arouse and/or terrify his enemies. Fantastic. |

I'm really confused. I don't know what actually happened. I kept waiting for something to push the plot forward, but I feel like the characters were just doing one thing after another. Somehow, the whole film felt like one long exposition. I always wonder how animators feel when they have to animate sex scenes. |

It was amazing imo, and I do have to agree that it was better than I expected. It was funny, well paced and they left out and put in the right amount of things. The voice acting and choice was excellent. The animation was a bit iffy sometimes though (but i'm not complaining). That cliff hanger at the end though........ Also, am I tripping but did Moratorium only play in the end? FuMomo-kun said: I always wonder how animators feel when they have to animate sex scenes. Thank you to the subbers for the quick work! Overall, I have mixed feelings about this movie. The voice acting was superb. Music great. I don't like the pacing that much, nor characters and story. The ED song is godly, I will be replaying it all day. |

Damn that was really good. I loved the whole vibe of the movie. It's one of the best yaoi out there. Just to echo what people are saying above, the voice acting was great. Looking forward to the sequel. 8/10 |

The voice acting and animations raised it's score. The plot and characters are pretty BL level bad. I'm tired of the "everyone is gay" trope. And even the only straight guy is actually bi. It makes the story a "fantasy" and gives no real life value. It's belittling the reality of being the minority where you don't often find someone like you. Yashiro's bipolarity is very annoying. Either like Doumeki or don't. Stop with the bitchiness. Doumeki's characters is very flat. The "I started working for you because you are beautiful", "I'll do anything to be by your side" is not realistic motivation for a "straight" guy. Very lazy writing. |

I'm still emotional over actually seeing these two move and have voices on my screen holy heck that alone makes it beautiful. The animation was exceptional and I love the muted colors and light gradients. What a mood. Definitely felt like things were passing by and just happening but I think that's the vibe/direction they were going for - outside looking in, something mature and fleeting. The heart looks like it's coming in the next part but the glimpse we got of Yashiro's high school days and him by the window crying take me back. I'm comfortable with all the best moments getting adapted and appreciate how they tried keeping the pauses, as small and quick as they were, but they're there. I would've wanted it to be an even slower burn but we can't make the film last six hours, so. |

Concerning the Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai OVA (which will be released in a few days) - since it's a DVD only release, do you guys think that it will be like Yarichin Bitch Club, as in more of the good stuff is shown? I would hope so, especially since the same animation studio (GRIZZLY) worked on both of those works (although I wasn't a fan of how they censored Yarichin Bitch Club with those absurdly large glows and sparkles). I also read in an interview that Blue Lynx (the label behind Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai) would like to include more lewd scenes in BL anime, which is why they opted to make movies as opposed to TV shows (so that they have the option to make them 18+ when screening). So any thoughts? Do you guys think they'll keep the same censorship direction as the movie or do you think they'll take this opportunity to show more like the studio did with YBC? |

jTiKey said: I'm tired of the "everyone is gay" trope. Me too and it's coming from a bi guy. Maybe that's the problem. I guess BLs and yaois are made by yaoi fangirls for other yaoi fangirls and aren't meant to be any real. I'm also fed up with lgbt stuff being shoved up my face everywhere. This one is yaoi of course but there are animes, comics etc. where I really don't expect any gay stuff only to get unpleasantly surprised. |

That was pretty good, I saw it released with subs so I gave it a go, really liked the dark storytelling & how complex the characters could be, especially Yashiro. Doumeki is pretty one-note so far tho. But I really liked their interactions — I can’t believe them watching a porno together in such a seedy place was conveyed so well as them bonding lol It was really well produced too! I liked the colours & art & that ending song was great! Voice work was good too. Also looking forward to the OVA of Kuga!!!! |
ꕤ but i’ll probably remember over and over again you were there and everyone else was there — the day we all searched for just one thing ꕤ |

I agree with everyone else who read the manga in saying that this is a pretty decent adaptation. It might be less pleasing for someone who isn't already invested in these characters but if you are a fan of the genre then I feel like this is still one of the best animations available. There aren't really that many good yaoi anime (manga is where it's at) so by default it stands out in quality. I think a lot more of the actual yakuza plot will be set into motion in the next part to the series so the story will pick up then since this is more of a smutty intro with mild exposition. These voice actors are great though and Yashiro's hair was even prettier than I thought it would be. I'm glad I finally watched it after waiting. |

It was good. But for me voice didn't fit into characters. Especially Doumeki. I always thought him to be more "easy", in anime he is too slow and big (both in drawing and in voice). Other iages were ok. But still manga is way better |

Doumeki's characters is very flat. The "I started working for you because you are beautiful", "I'll do anything to be by your side" is not realistic motivation for a "straight" guy. Very lazy writing. As someone who watch the anime first before reading the manga, I want to say my opinion about this for you and many other people who may think the same. I found many people who don't pay attention to every detail and don't understand subtle that's why they have weird conclusion even said this is porn. Yes, a story adapted from manga that won award called a porn by people. And honestly, even the title already implied that there will be many subtle things in the story, unlike a title like Yarichin Bitch Club for example that doesn't have any subtlety at all. You know that there are many men who say that they are straight but they have sex with men? That's what happen with most character in Saezuru for example Misumi, they prefer to have sex with women but they are okay with men especially you can imagine if that men is someone as beautiful as Yashiro and offer to have sex with them like Yashiro. But there is also a man who can't imagine have sex with men like Hirata for example. Since this story is how sex affect Yashiro, of course the story will show Yashiro's interaction with people who have sex with him. It's actually just focus of story since sex is something that affect Yashiro a lot (It seems the author want us to see how sex affect Yashiro and how he use sex for his own advantage) and not many women in Saezuru because of male-dominated environment. If you really pay attention, there are some people who is hetero like Hirata and Doumeki's sister. Well, you can read this for more insight: https://time.com/5026092/mostly-straight-sexual-identity-bisexual-gay/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heteroflexibility About Yashiro: If I were you, I will ask to myself, why Yashiro is so bitchy? Instead of "Stop with your bitchiness". The same with how I will ask to myself why someone is suicidal, why someone is so temperamental, why someone do this and that. For example you don't like someone who do self-harm, will you say, "Why you do self-harm?" or will you say, "Stop with your self-harm"? Well, I recommend you to not say the latter because most likely it will hurt the person. There are reasons why someone become the way they are and from the movie, we all know why Yashiro act like that, if you pay attention. About Doumeki: 1. Doumeki attracted with him since the beginning, you can say it's kinda like love at first sight. 2. Doumeki said himself, "This is the first time I meet someone like Kashira". 3. Doumeki realize Yashiro is nice by helping him with her sister and only after that he said that he want to dedicate his life for Yashiro. I believe there is more to say about Doumeki's feeling but I am also not expert in subtlety. Maybe Doumeki's feeling is kinda similar with how Eiji feel to Ash in Banana Fish. I understand Doumeki's feeling because I also have the same feeling to my best friend even if I am straight woman. Instead, because I am straight but I can feel like that makes me think she is so special that I can even imagine have sex with her and can't with other women. Well, from the article I showed you, I can tell, I am mostly-straight. I won't blame you to not understand Saezuru since it's subtle but I hope you have insight about the movie more. |

I watched this without any expectations, only to see ourselves liking it the more it progresses. Yashiro's character is very intriguing as well as the others (I honestly liked Kageyama's character and personality among the cast) and after all those reveals, it really seems like we're just barely scratching the surface. and we're yet to see the extent in the next movie. The cliffhanger and the post-credits make me impatient, not gonna lie. As for another thing that I observed: after seeing the credit roll with the list of core production staff, producers, and PAs involved, it seems that MAPPA actually did this stuff and released this as GRIZZLY. Interesting. |

well I read the some chapters of the manga a long time ago and then reread it yesterday then realized it isn't completed yet :( finished whatever was there then watched this today Yashiro was everything I imagined I liked him so much unlike Doumiki I didn't like his voice at all. (I care about voices if I read the manga first) his character fits more like Usagi's voice from Jounjou Romantica. ok Yashiro is just a horny bitch who doesn't care about what people think of him and just take it to his advantage (I'm not saying it is a good thing but I like that about him) what I don't like about him is how he doesn't allow people to get close with him emotionally. as for Doumiki he wanted Yashiro's emotions that's why he asked so many questions and didn't give Yashiro his body. (I see myself masking the same choices as him) I believe that Doumiki didn't straight up fell in love for Yashiro at first sight but liked him simply as a person that developed to love "and clearly didn't come to Yashiro's group for Yashiro" (it's fate baby) ... |
