THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Looks like this episode is buidling off of the events of the previous involving the orphanage.

Myne is such a humble person for helping the kids and even getting them ready for the upcoming festival. I think Myne is doing well for a director and serves as a godo role model for the kids.

Trombe has more important role as I suspect in thread of episode 10 of season 1

I feel like Trombe has more role than just being a tree that used to make paper.
Since it absorb a lot of nutrition, is it possible if Main eat Trombe and let it absorb her excess magic? I don't expect Main to use magic anyway, not with this setting.

Though I'm wayyy off, it's more like an item than a drug now.

Also, you can observe a nice screenwriting here, Maine mention about Lutz's brother to remind the audience that Lutz is still has more story to tell, and guess what, the next episode look like Lutz will be the highlight! So it also serve as a flag too.

The tattered orphanage proves ONE thing clear: those children NEEDED to be saved badly, and Myne will go all the way to deter ANYTHING from hampering her book-reading passion. With this, the orphanage reforms are in progress, and everything comes full circle.

More than the newly appointed director of the orphanage, the aim to get them all back in shape, and impart new values is Myne's intentions, along with Lutz, Turi and her family. A good role model.

And then there's the Star Festival. Despite how much the Head Priest has ridiculed her, with the orphanage, there is a matter of control...actually none, lest let the children be wild and free.

The karma of Trombe strikes again, but luckily the same effect does not strike twice. But one thing the Head Priest STILL can't get quite clear: Myne's extremely weak physical constitution. Praying that she will turn out well :)

Much more lighthearted episode this time than the last couple weeks. Really got to see so the work Main has put in at the church and orphanage come to fruition. Cleaned up the orphanage itself and taken to getting a hard work drive out of them through her rewards system. It seems kinda unfair at first but since the rewards are special treats kind of things and not just their normal meals it makes sense to have them end it. Plus it allows new characters to rise to the top of her establishment she's building at the church. We see two this episode with Wilma helping bathe the kids and make those flash card drawings, along with Kai helping scavenge wood for paper.

Ferdinand is getting really strict with Main as she gains more prominence at the church. Wouldn't even let the kids head downtown for the festival. Had to just stay near the orphanage. Then punishing her for not cleaning up enough, at least he's seen going too far with Main can have had effects. Weird moment with those fruits being able to absorb mana and turn to the trombe seeds. Those at magical items could lead to crazy stuff with Main and her mana. Looks like some more Lutz focus next episode too.

I feel like this is all gonna lead up to something big happening that is gonna make all of this hard work either mean nothing, or just go up in smoke basically. It seems everything is really going her way, her sickness isn't even much of a problem any more. Which is why I worry SOMETHING will happen soon that will just fuck all this.

Gonna be painful for Myne oof.

Yay, it’s my favourite time of the week. More Bookworm:)

Seeing Gil and Delia’s development has been one of the best pets of the entire series. They both really just had big self confidence and self worth issues. Once they met someone who showed them affection and genuine concern(Maine) it really helped straighten them up.

I’m so happy for the kids from the orphanage too who now have work, shelter and consistent food. Such basic human necessities they were deprived of. Can’t wait to see how that turns out

I love how Main is so strong to be able to brush off BS from older more established blue robes like the guy in the hallway. A lot of people would’ve blown up

Aw, come on head priest! You know Main is not physically well enough to be on her own in detention for hours on end. Not a smart choice for punishment at all. He could’ve supervised her doing a reflection or something.

Overall another really good episode. I Think season 2 is doing everything better than season 1 so far and am enjoying it even more. Can’t wait for next ep.

Thanks to Myne, the orphanage can now do their job of taking care of orphans. I couldn't help but smile at Myne's accomplishment.

So we have the return of the Trombe tree. They really are nasty but do make a good resource for paper.

The Head Priest should've known by now that Myne has a weak body.

Pretty much this.

Loved this episode, so wholesome for the kids. Having a clean place, someone who takes care of them, provide food and just want them to have fun.
Main also quickly changed her speech to respect the other noble ones and the Head Priest, woah... Also that last part, Head Priest please. You are underestimating her illness :(

Anyways, did a trombe fruit sneaked in that basket, or a regular tomato turned to trombe due to the mana leaking from Main?

You can see it clearly in the anime, the Tau fruit (not a tomato, lol) changed into trombe when it absorbed mana. They also mentioned that in the end, they made 3 trombe sprout (not just the one shown on screen). Basically, tau fruits are trombe seeds, that will mature over time into full trombe. Luckily, the kids in the city like to play with the tau fruits (as they're like water balloons), so it clears a lot of potential trombe from growing.
As for mana, it's some kind of accelerant, making the trombe grow faster. Remember in season 1, when Main encountered the first trombe, Lutz was surprised as it was not trombe season yet. That's because it grew earlier thanks to Main's mana.

wow the church and nobility are so EVIL. they'll let people, and children, DIE just to cover up such tragedy in the name of money.

and I'm having very bad vibes on head priest. he's going to read Myne's memory of the previous world (our world to be exact). refer to season 1 episode 1 if you're wondering. the question then is: how will the church extort all sorts of money from her memory while making sure the common normie is living a peasant life? Benno telling her not to tell this info to the church (in the ending credits at least) is extremely priceless, but yeaaaah. memory reading will render that useless.

I find it interesting that this quote is very close to some scriptures in the Bible. 1 - "Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger." - Proverbs 19:15 and 2 - "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat." - 2 Thessalonians 3:10. Now, I wouldn't support these statements wholesale without appropriate tempering, but when it comes down to it, it is a completely modern idea that society owes you any obligation whatsoever. The contract view of an individuals relationship with society makes much more sense, in which an individual provides society with something, e.g. work, and society provides something back, e.g. food (the terms here being simple for purpose of example.) Now, anyone with a speck of humanity would recognize that there are some who are unable to work, either for a period of time, such as children; for their lives, such as those with certain disabilities; or as a result of having provided work already, such as the elderly or those injured in the line of duty. If a society desires to be humane, it provides for these out of the goodness of its heart (note that this ideal was not practiced by all societies, including societies often looked up to today, such as Sparta.) Myne's quote or these scriptural quotes more specifically refer to those who can work but refuse to do so. To these, society owes nothing, and if they choose to remain in their ways, society need not worry if they perish. Again, a kind society should try to help them reform, but in the end if they remain recalcitrant they alone are responsible for their fate.

Now, with regards to children, great care is needed in determining the amount of work they are capable of doing, and I think Myne is wise in this regard. It is implied that the offering of the strawberries by the small children is equivalent to the offering of sticks by the older children, by virtue of their different capacities, both mental and physical. This shows wisdom on the part of Myne. It should also be noted that there is a big difference between the need for children to work and child exploitation. Just the other day, my grandma was recounting stories of her life growing up on a farm, where she needed to work in order to help make certain their family had sufficient food on the table. In the modern day, many parents still expect children to do chores, plus society expects children to work in the form of mandatory school attendance (learning is a form of work.) We certainly should be careful with our criticism before we fully consider the elements at play.

Finally, let us again note that the need for work is a reality, tied to the very laws of thermodynamics. As living creatures, we are systems that decrease entropy, thus we are required to have inputs of energy to exist. This energy can only come from work. In the end, for the children to eat, work must be done, whether by themselves or by someone else. If they are allowed to work for themselves, they take their place among the living with honor; if they only survive by the work of others, they are relegated to the role of the victim.

Even in the novel, it is not described in much detail, basically a one-line telling they sprouted 3 trombes in the end, after a one-page conversation with Lutz whether or not they should sprout more than one or not. But yeah, Main touched those 2 other fruits to "charge them", changing them into trombe for the orphans to cut. If she had not "charged" them, there would have been no other trombe growing (at least for a few months...).

So basically, Myne can farm trombe by touching Tau fruits until she runs out of mana?

Pretty much, yeah. There are still some limits, though, as after the Star Festival, most of the tau fruits have been harvested for the festival, so there's almost none left. Also, there's no way to store the tau fruits, as it runs the risk of the trombe growing while stored, and a trombe growing in the middle of the city is dangerous (remember they had to send the city guards to exterminate a trombe in last season).

The currently translated novel has only progressed by 2 seasons, so there's still no tau fruits, and I don't know if she'll try to grow more trombe.

They cut out so much detail from the LN in this Episode which makes Mynes progression seem quick and easy when it wasn't....

As for the work to be fed line - in the LN offerings are shared regardless of you doing anything or not so there was no incentive to do anything but your duties as a grey robe - Myne is trying to instil the work ethic that you get better things if you do something good (so they would still get the offerings as a basic food supply and working for Myne gets them better food etc).

They glossed over the making of the wax tablet & tiles with letters/pictures on (Wilma did the art as Mynes was so bad - Myne did the letters) and she gave a set to Gil to help him learn to write and to teach the orphans and also explained why Fran got the wax tablet and Gil/Deihla got the slate & chalk - I'm sure she'd written their names on the slates too. Benno bought the rights for both items from Myne.

They cut out the bit that explained the repentance room and up to Myne being found unconscious on the floor and that the priest had been informed what had happened so had to act to save face.

I agree a lot of details were skipped, even characters were not introduced, like Johann, but well, if you compare to most other novel adaptations, it still is a pretty good adaptation... At least the nature of the story is kept the same.

Brilliant show, touches on some shocking yet ashamedly still relevant subjects without glorifying them which exist in our world now. And Myne's wisdom of 'They're only words.. They can't hurt me.' If every one took this stance I think the online world would be much more peaceful and respectful.

Myne don't listen to Benno, tell Frida about the tau fruits so she doesn't have to rely so much on nobles and maybe she even wont need to become a concubine.

Kinda funny the moment when they were at the forest I was thinking "hm they haven't shown trombe again after it being shown as such an important thing before" just to show us where they come from.

Also I agree with people saying things are sailing too smoothly, I'm guessing when the fat bastard finds out how influential Myne's become in the church he'll screw her over.

Also, this wasn't mentioned in the anime, but the reason she would be a "concubine" and not an official wife, is that basically it was decided that otherwise it may cause too much tension with other nobles. The guildmaster found her a nice young and poor noble, so financially she has complete upper hand.

Myne's putting in all this work to learn how the Church does things, the Head Priest should really try to understand how Myne does things too. Was really sad to see Myne collapsed in a little cell like that. Hope it's a sharp wake-up call for him.

Felt slightly slower than most eps but still fulfilling, i was expecting some strong resistance from the high priest but i'm sure that'll come in future. The other blue robes still look down on Myne despite all her works, perhaps hints at what we've seen so far only being the tip of the iceberg. Did the Head priest just make a mistake?

yep i understood that scene.

also, if Myne can turn Tau fruits into Trombe by simply touching it. When it comes to war, what if she touches lots of Tau fruits and turn them all into Trombe then some soldiers would throw them into enemy bases or castle. Although Trombe starts of as weak plant, but since there are a lot of them being thrown, there won't be enough soldiers to take care of them.
