Hiro has a lot of energy in his personality...

Honestly, he reminds me of Chrono from Cardfight Vanguard. Either way, he made some creative moves during the episode against Luca. Got a lot more to learn but I guess he's on the right track.

He is still a beginner, so obviously he needs a lot to learn, yeah. I find it unamusing that people bash this just because it's not a story taking place in the game's lore like they first advertised it, and more so for "Not representing the game properly." Contrary to popular belief, if anything I'd start playing the game for the game itself. I like the ideas and the mechanics about it. Feels a lot like Vanguard in a sense and they creatively made it into an anime. We don't get Ignis Dragon? Big deal, I've checked the game out before the anime even started and I think it's something I could get into.

Another thing that might be similar to Cardfight Vanguard is that in the opening song we see Hiro's dad roaming alone in a probably Shadowverse dimension, hinting that he's not dead yet. This plot is similar to Vangard G Chrono's dad.

Well I guess every match in this anime will be "everyone has a 1PP follower first turn, plays that, and then skip to endgame where they just draw one card plays that"

It's kind of unfortunate since the actual game is quite fun to watch, I no longer play the game but still regularly watch a youtuber playing the game.

Gonna be great seeing Hiro grow and improve. Felt like today's ep really established certain things. Like a main rival for our protag.

This screenshot literally has their names romanized but the subs decided to go with "Luca" somehow... I still will go with Lucia/Lusia since they clearly pronounce it like that

The opening is really good! Lots of fun visuals and I love all the group shots. As another comment pointed out, it's no surprise if Hiiro's dad is actually still alive as the OP implied...and probably the final antagonist?

Also Hiiro in this entire episode is literally that "Anime protagonists be like I'm gonna say the F-word. Friendship." tweet but with "fun". He just wants to have fun, not threatened by Lucia's words at all.

Lucia also has all the stock shounen rival trope you need, no surprises here, but I do like how he actually respects Hiiro to the point of purposely letting Hiiro win. (Also bonus points to Lucia's design for looking like an actual vampire haha. Junya Enoki even used the same range as another white-haired-rival that he voiced.)

My only disappointment with this episode, like the first one, is still the fact I'm still quite confused by the gameplay rules and all. Not sure if that'll improve in the next few episodes...which I really have to get into the game myself if it doesn't, haha. Regardless, just as Hiiro said, I had fun. It helps that it really does feel more like Cardfight Vanguard than YGO especially after this episode.

I'm glad Mimori got her phone back but I think Hiro's record has been too strong for a rookie so far. Sure, he has MC power but if he wins too much already, it gives him little room to improve over the series. Looking forward to the cute arrogant blue haired boy next episode, let's see how he fares against MC power. Loving the OPs and EDs too and I'm glad the series will be 48 episodes so we'll have about a year of this series to enjoy.

Although I'm not familiar with Shadowverse as a game yet, I see some potential in the gameplay already. Against Luca's deck, I think a good strategy would be to play mostly defensively and save all your damage dealing for an endgame turn. Since his deck seems to get stronger with lower defense due to effects like vengeance, you wouldn't want him to stay under 10 defense for long.

I actually expected Luca to get to 10 health and then turn it around with insane Vengeance cards, that explains why people stop playing after facing him. Every time they get him low, he turns it around with super strong Vengeance cards which activates when you are on 10 health. It's a noob punishing class in general. If you are unsure whether you can finish him or not if he kills your board, you usually don't put him under 10 health, because then he can start to really shine and he even healed himself which only possible because vengeance activated..

What's weird though was that he was winning in health from early game despite going 2nd and despite being Vampire/Bloodcraft who damages himself who would've known.

I like how he had a choice to kill higher 6 attack minion vs 2 attack minion, he chose the later, saying he can try it, baiting Hiro to attack him with 6 attack and get him low enough right at 10.

Hiro is such a dirty topdecker, definitely wins roulette in his spare time and gives his winnings to the poor so noone finds out. He got the only card to save him 2 games in a row. Hahaha i wish Luca would comment then: "Oh i see how you won against Takumi" LOL.

And ofcourse he then topdecked buffer for his card for the exact lethal. That reminds me of the "if *insert name* was an anime* video. Haha, everything looks so easy in anime in reality he just rolled 1/25 or something twice in a row.
Still, a rather enjoyable battle.

Can not not comment about animations, i really liked how Vengeance looked, he started glowing. Then the way he damages himself in a form of draining energy to give to your minion (which is really cool as i always assumed your minions hit you for letting you use their strong powers)
The drain/lifesteal looked awesome as well.

Btw this is so lame that Hiro plays Neutral cards that are awful. Like that 6 mana 4/5 taunt :v sigh... That's what happens when you are a mere free to play guy :(

I wish Luca didn't leave off saying mysterious, scifi things like:"The card has entrusted itself to you" wtf... don't ruin my card game immersion. I don't wanna think of living cards, don't wanna!!

I think i'm only gonna watch 3 anime this season. Otome Game, Princess Connect, and Shadowverse. Either Otome Game or Priconne is gonna be my aots.

N i watch shadowverse as my guilty pleasure, cause i'm a double grandmaster in the game. I don't really enjoy the anime as it felt too much like cliche yugioh style anime, but the game itself is pretty awesome.

If u want to learn how to play the game just message me ^_^

Try reading Spy x Family Manga ^_^
U will love it, i promise...

Lots of Yu-Gi-Oh Heart-of-the-Card thing going on, also guess it goes with it's name... Shadowverse aka Shadowrealm style dueling, lol.

This episode is actually an improvement on the previous one, the battle was at least entertaining but still remains pretty average overall.
I hate to admit I love the opening tho.
