Hmm, Narumi is back and alive. Of course, his arm will never be the same again in that condition.

I think it's interesting to see more focus on his life as one of the main characters. He's surprisingly good with kids despite how he looks. Interestingly, Narumi also realized he gained some new abilities with his arm.

Definitely an important development episode for Narumi.

Woah...jumping from Masaru's arc in Volume 1 to Narumi's arc in Volume 12 of the manga, what a huge leap and undertaking.

So Narumi is alive and well...but to become a shirogane to help assist the new person Guy and carry on his work. So we're introduced to the main plot now that is the Midnight Circus automata baddies. And a new male and female lead that is the investigation at the heart of the disease that's similar to Narumi's ZONAPHA disease.

Basically, a new arc but one that will help set the motion for future episodes. Pretty excited though the manga is out-traced in its adaptation now.

How do you expect the anime to cover the entire manga in 36 episodes? Of course there will be skiping of entire volumes.

Great episode with plenty of info dump and shocking revelations to keep up the suspense!

Narumi is back but with a modified arm and amnesia! It really was such a relief seeing it although last episode’s finale and the key visual already suggested that he was still alive. Moreover, it seems as though Narumi has now been brought to the US for treatment in a hellish and wicked facility that is dedicated to fight back against the ZONAPHA treatment. Those shots of the kids suffering through the stages was horrendous, especially those that are permanently out of cause now! Narumi’s breakdown there was inevitable and disheartening to see. I certainly didn’t imagine 2000 kids would be suffering from the mysterious ZONAPHA disease, jeez. Bundled with all these physchological course of events, we even had to go through Mark’s and the little girl’s demise in truly horrifying fashion. Narumi failing to laugh and imitate the Gorilla face there reminded me of Shirogane’s failed attempt earlier, and just the timing of all this made it so much more impactful. Rip, little warriors!
Narumi asked to become a Shirogane now took me by surprise initially but after all that info dump, there’s definitely no chance at all that he’ll decline. ‘Midnight Circus’ eh, I’m curious to know more about them and why this terrifiying disease is of benefits to them. Those two villains, belonging to the Midnight Circus, of this episode were really creepy and I’m assuming the rest of the members are, as well.
Aqua Vitale, a potion invented by an old alchemist which can no longer be recreated and incidentally one that saved the life of Narumi, has piqued my interest too.
On another note, we were introduced to two new French puppeteers. Guy seemed like a really interesting character and the occasional comedy starring him were a nice addition to the episode. Aside from that, he’s combat ability is quite impressive too! Meanwhile, Lucille seemed like the more composed character of the two and we hardly got anything from her except for that little cameo in the end to raise Narumi’s spirits. Is she the one from Shirogane’s backstory though? And then there were the doctors of the hospital, the general atmosphere among the elders is sure depressing. Having to take in drugs to force themselves to smile and not show any hints of frustrations and sorrows is pitiful to hear. I don’t think anyone is sane in that hospital anymore.

All in all, a pretty intense episode and a sudden change in direction(not necessarily a bad thing however).
Sound Department in this episode was top-tier like earlier episodes, but this episode’s ost use in particular seemed to be more of a highlight than others imo.
I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store for us next week! I wonder if we’ll be getting another episode of Narumi's condition or revert back to our main character, Masaru. Whichever, I’m highly eager to see more!

Wow, the OST was amazing in this episode. And damn, them revelations and so sad for the Kids :(

I'm glad Narumi is still alive and looks like he's ready to kick some ass.

I wonder how important is the material that has been skipped so far.

Narumi has returned.
This man, Guy makes me suspect several things, besides the old Lucille, looks like the women who trained Shirogane to be a puppeteer?
The hospital in which Narumi was treated was horrible, the Zonapha syndrome is practically a death sentence and seeing all those affected children was cruel, added to the terrible conditions in which the doctors work, getting high to be able to give a smile to the children .
It was amazing to see Guy's puppet, Olympia, the design was very beautiful and Narumi did not stay behind, he released all his anger and frustration in Anselmus and Paulman's automatons, seeing how I turned them into trash was great.

OK they've done it... Yep, they've done it..

This episode is COMPLETELY ANIME ORIGINAL.
They try to squish so much info into one episode w/o any buildup, so many of the characters' personality has completely changed..
Poor Ki who has to be the bad guy now, despite if you read the manga, he'd never mistreat children like that.
(There was a 3rd called Shirogen O in this episode who completely disappeared. He was the bad guy in this episode )
Lucier is much kinder too compare to the anime original version.

Please just read manga from vol 7 to vol 12 and you'd see how much more difference this episode is compare to manga. (And how much inferior too) Those parts are all about Narumi and Ki too. They have a better / more clearer explanation for Automated Karakuri and what Shirogane is.

I don't know how they've done with, with sound and color, they can make the emotional impact of this episode much weaker than the manga version... This episode is called "Hell", but the manga portrayed it much better...

I've given up now, sigh...

Great episode! Soundtrack was great and that last fight animated by Kanno (HxH animator, SAO Alicization action animation director) was really good, as expected from someone like him.
I don't read the manga and I don't really care since this adaption, for me, makes sense and only gets better episode after episode, I'm here to see things animated so I'm really liking.
Looking forward to see more about that midnight circus and how they'll contribute to the plot.

Oh the story started wayy different than how manga originally did and sadly that way they are adding more question mark to me how the whole things could handled more interestingly or better *sigh*. Other thing this ep really confirmed that at this rate they are aiming of craming whole story into 36 ep..

Still though so far has been enjoyable despite damage taken imo especially pacing feels really alright (I am looking at you Hoshin Engi). I think this way anyone will feel rewarding reading the superior version afterwards.

Okay, this was way over the top, and maybe the first episode I don't really like. Most of its exposition felt forced, clumsy, and lackluster.

So Narumi lost his memory, and was saved with a miraculous elixir of old, it was their last dose no less, which could cure anything, and now he even has an abnormally high regenerative capacity, okay... He was also "scouted" by a "Shirogane" named Guy, and now he is also with that old lady who tortured, I mean, trained our Shirogane too, I just hope they will explain in time why it had to be Narumi, it's just too random right now. But the Guy's puppet, Olympia, was a beauty. But the thing with the ZONAPHA stages, and stuff, was a bit too much, just like the staff drugging themselves to be able to smile; what commitment to their work, and the children! The same children they interrogate searching for a deadly Circus of death, wow. I hope we are back to Masaru, and Shirogane in the next episode, Narumi's side seems to be a bit too crazy to my taste.

According to the comments this anime is skipping a lot of manga contemts while still managing to be quite good! ( take not Tokyo Ghoul anime studio ).
But seriously, Can't remember when was the last time I enjoyed an anime this much. The overall old school art style with modern day animation proved to be a fantastic combination .

If you didn't like Narumi's part then I doubt you're going to enjoy the series because Shirogane and Automata are the main plot. Guy explained at the end of the episode that Narumi uses ki which fucks up with the automata body fluids(that silver goo), as for why specifically him well small spoilers: he has ZONAPHA and Shirogane are all people that suffered from it before drinking the Aqua Vitae, you'll see the rest eventually.

The staff is not interrogating the children. Lucille and Guy are the ones interrogating them and telling them horrible things which is why the hospital staff dislikes them.

As for Shirogane and Masaru, if the anime changes orders a bit we'll see a bit of them but in the manga they disappear for a dozen volumes at this point

I disagree with what you said, in the manga Lucille and Guy are this way too it's just that we've already seen that they also care a little bit about people so we see with different eyes them mistreating the children. You do realize this is the same woman that doomed her daughter and granddaughter right, she even mentions several times how she can't be forgiven.

As for anime original, not really it's more like they cut several parts of the manga and put them together in the same episode, everything that happened here also happened in the original which we knew was going to happen like it happened to Ushio & Tora.

They may have skipped content as indicated by the manga readers, but it's still pretty damn good in my opinion. At least it's flowing together well unlike Tokyo Ghoul that rushed and left plenty of plot holes.

Seeing the posts about it skipping so many volumes, here's my take on it. Watching the episode, I could not tell. As an anime only watcher, it felt like we just finished a nice prologue to establish some aspects of the universe, and now we're moving into the darker main plot. Once the anime finishes, I'll probably check out the manga, but honestly, I thought this episode was still very effective. It had it's dark and horrifying elements that hit well and it contextualized one of the weirder parts of the story, Zonapha, in a way that gave it more narrative significance. To me, this was a great episode and I'm excited to see more.

Narumi has awake and stronger too, I'm also glad his syndrome is cured and also his regeneration is off the chart. Although I kinda missed Shirogane and Masaru, I liked this episode more than the previous ones and woke me up to this series. It also seems like he doesn't remember them or some fragments of his memory.

I'm really starting to love this series and I have very high hopes for Narumi as he now has my attention.

I fully expected them to skip Liselotte and the Princess arcs because they aren't that important in the grand scheme of things (I mean appart from obvious character development) and I'm pretty sure they will put Guy's flashback later on... but the hospital part in the manga was so brutal and so good, I'm sad it got treated that way... It sure lost a lot of impact without the building-up.

Gotta love Nozomu Sasaki as Guy, though.

Most importantly they skipped some Lucille being a supreme badass scenes rip

Calm down. I agree the anime skipped some good parts of the manga, and altered a little in character build up, but it did try it best to bundle up all those manga chapters in just 36 episodes. And its pacing is still good according to anime only fan. I still advice them to read the manga source to know more about the characters, but they could still be fine with the anime only.
I has watched this anime knowing fully its disadvantage (the limited time) and so far I still like it. And I have finished all manga volumes so no need to tell me to go read manga or manga is much more superior.

I have to agree the anime did a good job to make its story complete in its own way. In recent 2 episodes I didn't feel anything is skipped until I went back to check the manga. (Wow, they skipped from volume 5 to 12) And I heard that the manga was not fully translated in English. So I think this anime is still a good way to introduce this 90's masterpiece to the western world.

But similar to Ushio to Tora anime, they tends to tune down the violence and horror. In manga the hospital scene was more horrifying. In basement one of the child's face was shown in close up, with him trying to breath making some hiss hiss sounds, obviously still awake and suffocating. Consider that his permanent state forever...........

Yeah, I have no idea why they tone down the gore/ horror.

In fact Goblin Slayer and Made in Abyss become more enjoyable to watch because they don't shy away from them.

I haven't progressed from Vol 1 of the manga yet but after reading comments here, it is obvious that they skipped a lot. Since it is only 36 episodes they won't be able to fit it in I guess. Budget issues probably.

Anyway, I love seeing Narumi interact with the kids, he loves them so much so he and Shirogane can become great parents. They're my OTP and I will insert that as much as I want. Narumi is great husband and dad material for Shirogane and their future kids.

Poor Beth, she died but we didn't get to know her long enough to feel anything. I'm sure it is more devastating in the manga.

Plus Narumi has new powers, regeneration or fast healing. I hope they meet soon, seeing as they're skipping volumes and tons of chapters, I think it might happen sooner than we think hahahaha....

Still, as a person who is currently only watching the Anime version (since I'm too loaded with other manga to read Karakuri Circus, I like reading series continuously) I still feel the Anime is doing a great job and I loved every second of it. This show keeps getting better and better and I'm excited to meet some new characters.

I agree with you here. I too feel the anime is doing a great job. The art work is great (looks like Mad House work but I'm it's the same studio that did Ushio to Tora (TV) so all is good), the animemation is spot on in my opinion and some stuff that they leave out you can probaly figure it out on your own or it maybe explained later on or maybe you never even notice.

Either way, the anime is doing a good job for me so far.

Zonapha looks like some really dangerous syndrome, to have that as final stage

This stuff gets more interesting despite the anime not following the manga correctly.
