I'm currently reading the LN after having watched the movie, and the adaptation, while remaining faithful to the content itself, is very different in terms of execution. Of course, that's a reference to the monologue being taken away, a staple in Shaft's Monogatari adaptations. With this being a creative decision, allowing fantastic visual storytelling to take place of the text within the LN, was this worth it?

Its also worth noting that the metafiction humor was also taken away (ex: Hanekawa referencing Araragi describing her panties for 2 pages).

Don't forget the multiple jokes about getting an anime adaptation, but it is understandable why they left those out. XD

I think it was worth it. At least when it comes to atmosphere and visual storytelling in a more cinematic medium, I think it works. That said, I had trouble understanding the meat of the story until I read the novel-- keep in mind that I watched the trilogy twice before doing so.

Either way, I'm ultimately fine with the movie focusing on epicness instead of density-- at this point in the franchise, most people both already know the style of Monogatari and how well it's writing is as a series, so I think prioritizing a more authentic and cinematic experience was probably the best route.

Monogatari has always been a series known for absolutely ignoring the 1st rule of film: "Show don't tell". Its one of the few series that actually adapted its monologues down to a tea, and rather than dynamic scenes, chose to use very unique visuals to catch eyes. I feeo Kizumonogatari went a different route, almost directly opposite to the other seasons. It went almost fully show don't tell, having all this dramatic movement. It really was a spectacle to behold. While I think its obviously not accomplishing the same as the novel, I feel its adapted to what it wanted to be very very well.

It wouldn't fix enough of the movies since so much was cutout, exagerrated and overall changed in tone, but... yeah.
