WHAT THE HELL

Wow, what a fall. Holy shit, I know incidents can happen in cycling competitions btu that fall looked nasty. Regarding Midosuji, I think this guy is about to break his own limit lmao. I never seen him react that way before, even for him.

Pretty intense episode. I love this triple threat rivalry.

The Dragon Ball pacing strikes again. I like how I was rooting for Naruko and Midousji and STILL got freaking rekt. It was a complete victory for Hakone at the end of 1st day, huh.

One reason I'm loving this show so much is that it's the embodiment of overdramatic sports action and this episode pretty much proved again that Yowamushi Pedal is one of the very best when it comes to this. The spirit here was so strong and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.(despite knowing who would win)

Ashikiba came out of nowhere and usually I would be pissed off that the snatched away the win from Naruko and Midousuji. But Kuroda, the man working in the backround for this victory, gave it his all. I loved it how they built up everything leading to this moment.

Overall, intense/5

Man, I was seriously disappointed with the outcome of this episode. I am not even gonna comment on the slow snail pace since my criticism will focus elsewhere.

All that build up for Naruko and Midousuji´s rivalry and then the annoying Hakone guy asspulls to win in those unfavourable conditions... by the 3rd time in a row an Hakone academy guy steals the win, when said characters didn´t have the narrative strength when it comes to motivations/characterization. Heck after Kuroda´s sacrifice, I guess it was major obvious on who the winner was going to be in this episode, but still I hoped for a more unpredictable result, plus it almost seems like author is hyping these (new) guys now with the exception of the obvious one, in order to establish them as major threats in the future. Imo it is doing the opposite since he is putting all the apples in a single basket and then on the following days, the payoff will be focused elsewhere and in more obvious guys.

Per consequence of also this, the author keeps shitting on the old cast, since not only we didn’t get a resolution to the Naruko vs Midousuji rivalry (hope they pick things up later, especially if it is on the last day as they ride for the crown) at a peak of Naruko´s character development, but also Imaizumi pretty much offers Hakone the win on a silver plate, without attempting to stop them. It was already stupid how he allied himself with Hakone, not trusting Naruko to get the win when he was in a really good position, but even on the ace take-off he was pretty much a spectator and didn´t do a thing. Lost some respect and atm I can´t even see him as being ace material for Souhoku.

Rant aside, props to Kuroda though, the only Hakone guy from the new members of this year´s team that really impressed me on the 1st day. I really liked his determination, the self-sacrifice patent in this episode and his overall growth from the person he once was. Major respect.
In spite of this episode´s shortcomings when it comes to how slow the pacing was, it was still a pretty intense episode and I was entertaining for the most part. Looking forward to day 2.

I'm so mad, I can't believe Ashikiba won in the end... Seriously, I was rooting for Naruko to get his revenge on Midousuji and the guy comes out of nowhere to take the win...

The episode was great even though the last bit was a bit too slow and Kuroda was epic, he's the only guy in the new Hakone team that I really like. However I feel like it's kind of Imaizumi's fault Sohoku didn't win, if he didn't help Hakone out, they never would have caught up.

Excited to see the second day, hopefully Sohoku will be better since Hakone completely dominated the first day though I've got the feeling they won't win this year's Interhigh.

Race was intense, but the most obvious choice won. Hakone dominates Day 1 as expected.

Why this anime became so predictable.. LOL
I've called it in the middle of the episode that he would won the tall guy (his friend almost decapitated himself for making him win) just because of his pure heart caring for his companions.
Noruko kun is a idiot, following the creepy pink guy leaving alone the smart ACE.
The pink guy is too disgusting and only thinks about win win win win win and insects, so he needs to calm the F**K down.

Nobita where are you?! Oh holding thatr guy for half race through instead of trying to win again.
Fantastic!

So Naruko Set up from last season was basically meaningless, i understood why the captain did not win but however Naruko also, I get the guy from Hakone Academy sacrificed himself but really this is dumb. If the author had balls he would have made the guy from hakone 3rd place show the cold reality, that 1 big fuck up should have made them lost, also Imaizumi why did he ride with the Hakone i get the start but its quite obvious to move out when you can because Naruko needs the advantage. Now i know will win all they matches in the 2nd and 3rd day besides 1 win from Kyoto Fushimi.

Akishiba win is a major asspull and dissappointment. I will never see him as a major threat or villian. Just another plain and uniteresting character. Truly weak writing from manga author. This season so far is the most dissappointing. I see anime losing a lot of viewers after it ends. Very weak - both story and pacing.

Good episode, that was really intense.

HOWEVER,
I call complete bullshit on Ashkiba's victory, it was total bullshit and I can only call it a contrived asspull at this point. I passed off him catching up to the front lines as just a way to create more drama but the very fact that he caught upto the frontlines is bullshit. The assistant's normally send out the ace's much in fact far earlier, there's no way in hell that Kuroda could have caught upto the leader's when they were already going that fast. Not to mention Kuroda pulling them all the way to the front was impossible since he should've already been tired and there's no way hell he could've pulled them with such strength that he could catch upto the leaders, this is especially true considering how the show was trying to reason out Ashkiba winning to him saying he was still full of energy because of Kuroda. There's no way Ashkiba could have caught up at the last 100m if Naruko and Midousuji were actually going super fast.
As much as I love Yowamushi Pedal, this outcome is a complete disappointment in every way. It completely shits on the rivalry and work that Naruko and Midousuji did in order to make themselves better to win at Inter High. Asjkiba winning is nothing more and nothing but an ass pull victory to create some kind of drama/fake stakes for the next leg of the race.
To be honest, I can't really express my disappointment enough cause this was the one outcome I didn't want to have happened, I even mentioned it a few episodes ago and I'm really really disappointed that it happened. :(

Also, goddamn did they drag the finish line stuff. Even Toei doesn't drag stuff this much with One Piece. XD

well im with a lot of people in that this was very disappointing, not even gonna mention how this series (like most sports and shonen animes) tend to drag the shortest amount distance/time for centuries
Naruko gets shanked....again
Midousuji's aura as a feared threat is gone
all the build for Naruko vs Midousuji matchup was pointless
delivery newbie killing himself on day 1....geek of the week here
Imaizumi grouping with Hakone was also very pointless and lead to nowhere!! unless they address the fact he helped them win

shoulda have Midousuji won just to send a message and strike fear to the Hakone newbies and have them win Day 2. or even have Naruko take a W for once to show Midousuji up

I can't believe how disappointed I am with this episode. The whole situation and story that was being painted was the battle between Naruko and Midousuji. I would have been happy if either one of those two won. Instead, the Hakone guy randomly catches up out of nowhere and wins. That is actually messed up. Storytelling literally cannot get worse than this. The author really dropped the ball with this episode.

This was honestly a surprising result. Seeing how Souhoku still had two guys in front and Imaizumi promised to give Naruko a push as well, I would have expected him to do exactly that at the last moment. Looks like it was sadly not to be, but then again, Souhoku never gets anything but the final win, it seems.

You seem to be forgetting that Onoda is a climber. As great as he is at what he does, he would not stand a chance against any of these aces on a flat section like this.

I really wanted Naruko to win because he tried so hard and was so determined :(
I know this show isn't exactly realistic and always pulls out unrealistic stuff but it's a bit of a bummer when the people who were racing it out with all their hearts suddenly get beaten by someone who was way behind, it makes Naruko and Midousuji look so weak if they can be overtaken that easily when they were going all out.
Aside from that, one of the main reasons I'm annoyed at Ashikiba winning is that you see him winning in the opening sequence? Talk about a big spoiler, I was really hoping it was to deceive the audience but nope, he won it just like they showed... ok...

Aside from all this complaining it was one hell of an intense episode, I had to pause it a few times because it was too much lmao

That's very realistic. Redhead and Midosuji were racing as singles, while Hakone's giant had a "domestique" to lead him up to the finish. That allowed the ace to save 30% of pedaling effort for minutes due to the slipstream effect, which shields him from the aerodynamic drag. 30% extra left in the legs is a huge difference for human powered vehicles and no kind of feelz can cancel that out. The perfect timing of a domestique launching the ace has consistently decided World Tour races with bunch sprint finishes. (Although pushing by palm is not allowed in real world.)

Redhead and Midosuji were stupid not to start cooperating for slip-stream as soon as Hakone duo appeared on the horizon or even before that. Imaizumi was clever to join the Hakone duo and contribute, so he could unexpectedly end up 4th.

On the other hand, YP is unrealistic in that nobody got busted for doping or TUE yet (Therapeutic Use Exception = we look the other way while you influentilal, rich and famous team dope).
Real world cycling nowadays is all about EPO abuse and TUE abuse for fluimucil (makes lung larger) and of course the infamous "Varjas" hidden electric motors in wheels and frames. There is no such thing as a clean cyclist or if yes, we don't get to see him on TV, since he's left so far behind the main peloton...

I have watched the episode 5... all in all i know that Hakone will win the first day since their new members looked strong.... but to be honest.. they should have made Naruko the winner since the sprint and climb part Sohoku lost...

With Naruko who experinced last year Inter-High...he should have won but instead Ashikiba from Hakone is the one that won... i want to say that this episode so far makes me really disappointed and decided to dislike Hakone more because of their attitude and behaviour....

not that i biased but its the truth ( for my opinion ).... no offense to people who is a fan of Hakone but i'm also a fan of Hakone but i actually only liked the old Hakone team which a bit more friendly than the new members...

Longest sprint evaarrrr!!! Show is dragging way too long for my liking, but still exciting in parts. Still I gotta thank it for motivating me to watch real races & pros.
Well the show did setup Hakone's expected win, with the huge focus & sacrifice of Kuroda blackcat delivery. Hakone were 2-man team for the last part saving energy for Ashikiba. While Naruko & Midousuji who had the rivalry arc going on, fought alone for much longer. Thirdly Ashikiba's long body gave some advantage for that last bike push to finish line.

Though like most, the winner is a bit disappointing for me and they did drag out the last few episodes which wasn't as good as this. But as a standalone with an open mind, this is some top notch stuffs. It feels like Goku vs Naruto vs Luffy. 10/5 for me

Sorry but this is a load of shit. And this stuff is starting to seriously annoy me now.

They were more then 350 meters behind, you simply dont catch up from that, and IF you do its over a long period, not in the last stretch to the finish, and this was against Midousuji who in the previous inter-high beat fucking Shinkai in a sprint race, and Midousuji is even faster this time. This is bullshit enough that hakone caught up but even wins? NO!

This is even worse then Imaizumi suddenly OUT OF NOWHERE getting better then Midousuji in season 2, like literally went from being like miles below midousuji in skill to beating him in a race, or Teshima who for some reason could keep up with Manami despite being the most below average rider in the entire inter-high.

There were 1km to finish from Ashikiba and 650 meter to finish from naruko.
Does Ashikiba has a teleport dancing style or Naruko and Midousuji had a tea time before finish.
