Riko and her cooking skills...
Definitely important though if they want to survive.

I liked Riko and Regu's character chemistry this episode. They went deeper into the abyss and encountered some strange creatures. Regu's behavior is also feeling more and more human-like every episode imo.

Nice to see Habo this episode :D
Pacing seems good so far. They're following this journey to the Abyss layer by layer.

What is this pacing? Everything was actually pretty much perfect until now, they completely dragged this one out. I didn't hate it or anything, they just could've done so much more. Really wondering about how they're going to end this now..

That was wonderful. Kinema Citrus is hitting consistent home runs week after week.

They're doing such a great job of helping you experience the Abyss. To really take in the atmosphere of this otherworldly place as Riko and Reg gradually make their way down.

You should feel as if you're taking this journey with them. It's not supposed to be some abbreviated vacation slideshow where you jump for key moment to key moment with none of the connecting tissue. This is how you do an adaptation by taking full advantage of the difference in mediums to elevate a story to the next level.

After another tearful goodbye, our heroes find themselves into more dangerous territory. The studio is going with a slow and steady pace with this one, letting us see the adventure as soon as it unfolds before our eyes rather than an abridged version of it.

We're not watching a bunch of characters go through an adventure, we're right there with them, exploring the last uncharted location in the world, experiencing for ourselves all the joys, pains, happiness, and suffering that they feel.

On another note, I wouldn't mind eating lunch in the first layer of the Abyss. It looks so beautiful.

i think the pace was good and steady not too fast or slow. they slowed it a bit to let us see how reg and riko interact and let us see the adventure

Well, I quite worried myself. If the anime is to covered until what was shown in the OP, the current pacing might result in rushing some of the juiciest part of the story...

Very nice showcase of the adventure aspect of this anime. Got to see the whole first layer.

The bond between Reg and Riko is nice to see.

They know where to add appropriate music, that's always a plus.

So next episode, i guess we'll see Ozen and things that might be distressing according to Habo.

Interesting that Habo gave Riko some kind of protection water, will probably come in handy later on.

Good episode. They are in the second layer now.

Nice to see Habo and he is fast for his build.

That was another good episode, but I honestly have been wondering some stuff since episode 1 so I kinda just want to put them here, there are chances that the own anime explained them and I failed to understand that tho, so sorry beforehand.

1- Would Riko have any chance to get far without Regu being there? It seems like she would have gone there even if he wasn't here, not to mention that he provides an insane help by just dropping lots of meters with his hand.

2- They plan to go to pretty much the bottom known of the Abyss, but, is there even a chance for them to do that? They are already warned not to go to the second level or they won't get rescued, there is no way they can even get past that, especially if the monsters and dangers around are more and more difficult the lower they go.

3- How do the adventurers climb back? Like, Regu used his hand to decrease lots of meters at the start, falling really far, it sounds very difficult to climb back like in a mountain, especially when just going to the third level makes the person feel terrible due to the curse of the Abyss, I can't see how someone could climb back while feeling awful no matter how good they are at being adventurers.

4- Generally worried about the whole objective in general, for now the story is basically going to find Riko's mother, who awaits at the bottom, that is fine as a driving force to start the adventure, but, idk, HxH starts because Gon wants to find his father, but he already has the objective to become a Hunter so the story has a first point to start from, meanwhile Abyss so bar is pretty much just keep going down. It's only 4 episodes so I guess that I'm just worrying too much.

Quite funny to see that only the manga readers are worried after one episode of taking things slow(not like the previous three did enough right?) The fact that you guys are more worried on where a show is going to end rather than if the show is actually adapting its source well is hilarious. Stop fucking nitpicking.

Oh that is just half of it. Just wait.

OT: Well yes this ep was slow but vol 5 is still not possible with the pacing of last eps.

3 ep -> 8 chapter

12 ep -> 32 chapter Half of the "hyped arc" so I don't think they would just stop there or give the other half in one episode.

At least we will get "fluffy arc".

Still was a good episode.

Well I can see why since there are so many major reveals in that arc. Since the show "adapting its source well" we just want to see that arc too. Nothing hilarious there. Tbh last arc is even better but wanting to see that would be just too greedy.

I loved this episode, the atmosphere was fantastic.

I'm not a manga reader but I checked the manga out of curiosity. The pacing doesn't really seem to be that slow? Of course we'll see what they do going forward, but an episode dedicated to the first layer of the abyss and start of the second seems perfectly reasonable to me. Whatever though, pretty much any anime adapted from a manga or light novel is always going to have a few people complaining about something.

Wow. The art is so fucking gorgeous. The character chemistry was great too. The scene with Habo didn't have tears but it did deliver them feels.

Some people are worried about the pacing but with the way the anime is going, I don't think the studio is going to mess it up.

I am excited to meet Riko's mom's erstwhile comrade....

No. No one is complaing. Manga readers (me included) are worried because they show in the OP a character, which means that they will adapt his/her arc that ends at chapter 38. And with this pace everyone is wondering "how will they adapt it?" -----> rushing things

Well I guess I should have mentioned I wasn't just talking about on MAL, most of the complaining I saw was on Reddit. Anyway, from what I gather there are two good ending spots in the manga from a post that I read. Maybe they'll go with the first ending to set up for a second season? Who knows. At this point it's best to just see how the next couple of episodes are paced before worrying too much.

So far sticking to the manga pretty well, especially in this episode with the way reg describes the food hahaha

Im excited to see how the next scenes will play out, and whether or not it will be as graphic as the manga

A little slow, but definitely the greatest world building I've seen in a while! Hoping that when things go down the pace picks up

Man I also gotta compliment the BGM and the art - on point and well-suited for every scene

Yes, a few readers represents everyone!

I read the manga myself, and it itself has not finished, for Riko hasn't achieved what she wants yet. The animators (etc.) are doing a darn good job at adapting the story, and I don't think any manga readers should be worried about where this season will end because - damn - we got mega spoilers in the opening scenes.

Now the question is, are you liking it so far? Is the pacing just right for you, or could things be sped up a little to cover more details that everyone will appreciate?

This pace is worrisome, it had great pace and then it was shattered in this episode. The episode was good as usual though. I read in an article that the director said that in the anime, the final parts could be rushed. This is not good especially for the best dad arc. How could they showcase him in his true glory? Another thing that stresses me is what if they remove the dark scenes that make up the manga? Are they really gonna make it PG? I hope not. They could go with the pacing and end it on fluffy rabbit arc and introduce them to best dad but that would ruin the experience. I really hope this anime sells well in Japan, since it did not yet hit full throttle unlike shows such as Madoka, where shit hit the fan on ep 3. This could take time and what it does. It will explode. I just hope others won't drop it just because it looks "kiddy".

rather than ch 38, I'm convinced the anime will adapt only up to ch 26 (a little bit past Volume 3). And this is based on what's portrayed in the OP and ED, as well as the pacing and the 13 episode limit.

It's strange that a 13 episode anime should have such a pointless filler episode.

Also, I'm fairly certain one of the characters mentioned that Reg "couldn't just use his arms to lower them down the abyss"...

But that's exactly what he did this whole episode.

This show started so well, but I've been disappointed with the last two episodes.
