| Jojo went ahead to retrieve the stone as planned but not without leaving the scene with at least one vaporized vampire. The fateful fight against the Pillar Men is at hand! It's tough to find out that the lady you were thirsting to raid her panties was actually 50 years old and was with Erina at the time Jonathan was killed. Jojo will be in for a bigger shock once he finds out something else later on. |

| In the past I have suggested that I prefer the narrative structure of Phantom Blood paired with the personality of Jonathan for Jojo’s kind of pacing. But, at the same time, even though the story structure was looser up until the training arc, it has become more like what we’ve seen in Phantom Blood. The training slowly leads to ACDC attacking which directly leads to the Switzerland chase and the Cars attack which smoothly leads to the attack of the castle and Caesar’s death which directly leads to this negotiation and the cut to the presumed final battle. Earlier, back before Joseph had a strong motivation, he floated around from place to place making the Straights arc, the Santana arc, and then even the meeting of the Pillar Men trio feel quite loose, and while albeit fun, my lack of personal investment in the story and most of the characters made it feel less gripping. It's not like anything was boring or bad, it did however feel a little lackluster for reasons I've described before. So, having Joseph gain a more substantial personal drive, having me as a reader start to care for Lisa Lisa more personally, having me bawl my eyes out for Caesar, and having me gain a peaked interest in Cars, and a serious liking to Wham, all on top of the structure that I think fits this kind of pacing better definitely makes me enjoy Battle Tendency more. I have little qualms with the second half of the story. Wham picked a traditional battleground and they will fight in the eyes of the full moon, as expected Lisa Lisa had to stay with the Pillar Men as to ensure no fleeing, and we even had a Jonathan-esque moment where Joseph pulled on the tongue of that vampire. When Joestar’s are grieving and angry, we've come to expect a no name villain to get their tongue tugged on. Jonathan did this right after Will died for the record. As he left the castle, Joseph reflected on the personal drive he has towards the people that he's been fighting with and how it's molded his emotions. This is no longer about his life, but rather his allies, living or dead. Found in the briefcase was both the stone and pictures, particularly an adorable family photo of Erina, Speedwagon, Straights and a baby. I think there is good reason to believe that she is his mother as touched on before, but at the very least being the baby that Erina saved is already a nice detail. Jonathan was right telling her to save Lisa Lisa, look at all the good it's done. “You can cry… but you must live…” P.S. Joseph calling out the vampire that called him a dumbass and telling him to “come down for a second” had me rolling. Also, I was sad Stroheim will probably not come up again but perhaps Stroheim will show up with a bunch of nazis and ultraviolet lights for one final supporting act. |
