THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
A decent first episode to start off, surprisingly a few more materials than the original Aikatsu. And i will try not to compare Stars! to the original one.

The art style are similar to Aikatsu, but characters in Stars! seems to be cuter/ a little but childlike and cooler. A clear personality can be seen in many characters showed, especially Laura Sakuraba. They even showed a few more teachers and the headmaster is a male. Saw one very cool female teacher beside the male with a fan during the 1st year audition. And the genre of the homeroom teacher this time is rock huh.

S4 is indeed a cool group, different personalities again. Like the blue hair girl, second favourite the orange twin-tail.

The dancing part is a little bit different and a bit repeatitive. But it fit perfectly when MC dance at the audition. Still need more episodes to see more variation/combination of dance to decide.

The school base look more smaller in a wide rural places. What shocked me was there is a boys department, seeing the MC meeting a boy, incoming romance?

Aikatsu system is different also, jumping instead of walking in the system huh.

The MC had a blast in the audition and praised by many, but she didn't have recollection during the dance, most likely luck and reflection or nervous lol. Like the original Aikatsu, she caught the attention of the one she admired, expected for the plot to proceed forward.

Like the ed btw, S4 very cool. Rather than aphorism and diary in original Aikatsu, a news corner in Stars! refresing i guess?

A new legendary has begun?

Yume has mad skills from the getgo, but dear god she overdid it and fainted at the end. I'm going to keep this, I dropped the first series but this one seems better right now and the CG didn't bother me save for the crowd in Hime's performance which was excellent overall, the crowd looked like cutouts and remind me of a crowd in a racing game oh well. I like Laura more than Yume though, I want to see her perform next.

Wait now there are male idols are in this series? Maybe it's just to appeal to a wider audience, this should be good if they get performances in this anime.

We're going supernatural?

I wonder if this is part of how they're competing with PriPara? Though I don't know if the two are really in competition or not.

Could just be they really want to do a different thing with this one. Really looking forward to the answer behind Yume's mysterious power.

Not sure how to feel about the male idol thing, just hopefully we don't get stuck in a romance plot...Idolm@ster handled the boy band thing right, but I dunno if I can trust Aikatsu to do so.

Anyway, the first episode was really great, but I do agree that the dancing was kind of weak. I really liked the song, and the cast seems like tons of fun!

Yes at first the original Aikatsu series is bad, but it gets better later on especially after 40 episodes or so.

And about the crowd, i believe most of them are online audience log in from other places just like in original Aikatsu. Well just think of it as all the audience went to cyber world(aikatsu system) by wearing the headgear. It will not bother you much if you think like that.

1. The reason why I started watching Aikatsu S1 was because Ichigo x Aoi were close and had each other's back. I'm hoping Yume x Rola can match their level.

2. Almost like a parallel universe, the girls in S4 look exactly like the first 4 girls of Aikatsu S1: Ran -> Yozora, Yuzu -> Otome, Tsubasa -> Aoi, Hime -> Ichigo.

3. I was a huge Aoi fan in Aikatsu S1, so I instantly recognized Aoi's voice (Tadokoro, Azusa) in Yuzu with a much more energetic tone, and then Ichigo's voice (Morohoshi, Sumire) in Tsubasa with a lower voice.

4. Isn't the tree that Yume climbs on too far away to see off Hime?

the pace little rushed, I think. Compare to Aikatsu S1, we were see more about Ichigo's life and her family and actually not interest with idol thing and first time she admire Mizuki before she attend star gakuen.

Even though this just episode 1, I eager to see Yume's background and not just someone who want became S4 and some template from former Aikatsu.

Aside that, I loved this episode. Especially, when Yume bad at training, but so good at stage, but she doesn't remember that. I wonder it was split personality.

Comment for S4. They are perfect, and I loved them in first time. Hime like princess and care about Yume, Tsubasa is cool, Kii clone is cheerful and Ran clone is sexy.

the songs also beautiful and earcatching.

and Laura also can be potentially good rival for Yume.

I am very impressed by this. They actually improved a lot since the original also I will not compare it the the original (yet). What can I say about this show that hasn't already been said? This is definitely one of those shows I have to watch the moment the episode is out (subbed or not). unfortunately since it is one of those shows I'm going to have to wait until it's almost over so I can enjoy it all at once.

I am sure she will grow into it, but Koharu's seiyuu sounds kind of immature (not like, young, but not that skilled at acting. haha)

Just didnt' know if Aikatsu was destroying PriPara, or the both of them were more like rivals that closely battle each other.

I don't know the details well enough, but Aikatsu made way less money after PriPara started. PriPara is kind of at the top right now. Stars is probably hoping to make a comeback.

so like, i didnt actually finish the last season of aikatsu, but im still a bit excited for what this show has to offer weirdly.

the 2d animation seemed a bit better than in the Aikatsu series but i stopped looking at all that as soon as realized the subs haven't come around.

skipping to the 3d performance... i was kinda iffy on it. (just speaking about the MC's performances at the end) the movements seem stiffer and the mouth seems weird, and i think its partly because she aint showing any teeth.

edit: also, the MC's hair clipping through her arm was... well..

the ED tho, gave me a really good impression of the S4 girls. ill took forward to watching the entire episode when i can find subs

I watched this without seeing any Aikatsu prior to this. I watched the raw version without knowing any Japanese because that's all I could find, and since its a music based anime, I figured I would watch it for the music, and guessed, based on my experience, what they were saying, and I'm pretty sure I was somewhat right. The CG kind of scared me at first. But I enjoyed it, probably more than I should have. 5/5

A boys school? In MY Aikatsu?!

dropped 0/10

With the shitty joke aside, it was pretty good. Not a great introduction episode, but it still has everything that makes Aikatsu both charming and adorable to watch. The rivalry between Yume and Laura seems like it could be just the thing Aikatsu needs to freshen up a bit. Now I just need to get around to finishing the last season of the original series..

They didn't waste time and introduced all the basic concepts/characters really soon. That's good, after all it's pretty much the same thing as the original series.

Liked all the cast. Laura's personality is nice, reminds me of early Juri.

I wonder if that boy will actually be a main character. It would be weird having romance in a show like Aikatsu.

Certainly a promising first episode, although Yume and Koharu's introduction felt rushed and there were a couple of other iffy moments. The addition of a boy's school is a surprise, but a great shout as it's seems like Bamco are recognising that the franchise has a large male playerbase. That transformation sequence was rad, but the BGM doesn't have the same level of catchiness as Aikatsu's. CG-wise you can see a small drop in quality as it's back with Sunrise's in-house team rather than Samurai Pictures, but it still looks good and certainly better than Aikatsu S1. The music is great though, which for me is the most important part - that ending theme was delicious.

So a promising start and I'll certainly be sticking with it.

So many new things in Aikatsu Stars yet so many similar things.

Yume's character design has a bit of Mikuru Natsuki and Hoshimiya Ichigo, personality wise she's an Ichigo. Honestly I'm loving Yume, while she is not a copycat like a certain someone she has her own touch personality. Hokaru's is pretty much a purple haired Sakura.

S4 certainly has diversity. Aoi's voice actress, LOVE. Yuzu = Kii in looks. Hopefully Yuzu has a good amount of screen time.

Yozora reminds me of Miyabi/Ran, both represent sexy and beauty. Tsubasa's tough attitude is interesting. She's probably the one that keeps the group in check, a bit of Ran I suppose if we go by how Ran was portrayed at first.

Lastly we have the one in charge of the school. I don't want to say he's giving off a bad vibe but well when one is covered in dark environment it can usually mean he or she is doing bad things. Hopefully that's not the case and he's just a strict person who just so happens to act like that.

Moving on to the transformation, it's by far better than Aikatsu. The way they added stairs and incorporated the cards as well, it gives the show it's own unique touch. Then we have the room where the character puts their cards. They no longer have that vintage door if that's what it's called. Honestly I'm liking this, especially how characters can make their own cards. I wonder if that takes away from getting premiums and if characters can just make their own premium dresses so long as their instructors deem them ready for them.

The ending to the episode was a bit surprising. Laura and Yume appear to be the focus of the group.

First thing - that ending was garbage compared to old ones. They were best part and now we've got... generic might be good term to describe it.
I think they also took money from CGI. It's not as bad as it used to be (I didn't manage to finish last season so don't know if it dropped) but some parts were weak - especially that blonde girl mouth during first song, that felt weird.
Legend? That is something straight out of PriPara, where it works because of fairies and whatnots.

But there are good things - Yume has some kind of personality, so huge improvement over Akari.
I'm not sure about that teacher: Johnny was goofy and fun while she is... but maybe she will be fine too.

So I would want to like it but there is something missing here.

I would think though that most of the male playerbase plays for the females, though? I think most male idol franchises the vast majority are female.

I personally really like the song, but the..."animation" is the laziest one yet. The EDs for Aikatsu were always really creative and pretty to look at visally. This one is a few still character designs and some crazy moving stars with the beat.

While Aikatsu has more of a grown male fanbase, there are a sizable amount of women who like it and are rabid about the series, to the point that it makes perfect sense to have a boy's school. Very few Idol anime that aren't completely fujo pandering have little to no female fans, it's at least 50/50 for them.

I really hope that's not the case and boy's school will just appear once or twice.
Because... it kind of doesn't make sense - older man are probably fine with girls only, boys probably have different series to watch instead of pink series (sports anime, Jojo and so on). Girls already have a lot of stuff to buy from it - so one group that might be convinced to watch are older women.
Lets take UtaPri for comparison: they have bit of romance, drama and cute boys doing cute things - first thing might work in Aikatsu but rest not so much, in addition of combining it with pink world of main series. Male spin-off would make sense on the other side.

My reaction to first shot of ED was "oh I like it" but than it deteriorated... last shot with shadows was fine too.

Another thing about S4 - hey don't look to different than Ichigo and Aoi (at least at the very beginning) which confused me at the start.

So i take it with the introduction of male section maybe we will have Double MC after introduction arc. unlike Original where we have two generations MC this time maybe we will have two main character at same time with different genders : MC in girls section ( Yume) and other MC in boy section (probably that Subaru boy).
I am glad they added Male idol, because if they aiming to make this surpass original then they have to do with different method.
Using same concept to rival original Aikatsu will be hard but add new concept like male idol are extravagant idea.

Had to search on Google and find another site to watch.

Anyways, does Yume some how resemble Ichigo with Twintails... or is it just me...

(haven't watched the next 8 episodes yet... but I bet she's totally possessed by Ichigo's spirit from the other Aikatsu universe, LOL)
(now to continue watching and see how close I got)

Well I recently watched ep 10 and I just have one request to the creators, please make sure hat yume will be the only one to suddenly have a very big and wonderful aura on her FIRST performance.

Because that's what made her unique and distinguished also that's the reason the headmaster was interested in her capabilities.

If you make having an aura on the first performance available to future new characters, that will ruin yume's individuality.

It's like the previous aikatsu series. Mizuki and Orihime made a big deal of ichigo because she managed to have made an appeal on her first try and performance.

That's what made her stand out but as the series progressed, first time performers started to make appeals on their first try. ex. Seira, nono, risa (I can go on and on) And their audition didn't even used the default audition song aka Idol Activities. They just started using new songs. Ex. Nono and Risa.(lucky train)

That's all I have to say. The series is off on a good start! Can't wait for more

The artstyle is so different from the first Aikatsu.

The performance seems lacking imo, though that might be because I finished Pripara recently so it's hard not to compare them. It's been a while since I finished Aikatsu so not sure if the performances were always like this, then again it was Yume's debut so they weren't going to go all out with it.

Slightly dislike the fact that there's a boy department,I don't really want romance in my aikatsu unless it's just minimal things like the first Aikatsu.

Not sure if I'll end up liking this a much as the first Aikatsu tbh with the lack of Ichigo,Akari, etc but I hope this'll manage to be it's own thing and still be good/enjoyable.I'll try my best not to compare them, but as seen from this post alone that's going to be tough.

So, I expect people already watched the Aikatsu's 1st series and of course the whole episode of AiStars' ep 1 as they called it, if not, then don't read my message for this episode 001. I warned you.

I recently watched all episodes concerning Aikatsu! and I really love how their characters develop.
So here at Stars, there were many things that I didn't like from the get go or from this episode.
But I do hope it gets better.

I will list these things I've seen in an unorderly fashion. Positive and negative, Likes and dislikes.

1st was that the MC's homeroom teacher is like Johnny or Bepp-sensei, too redundant, no originality? Even if the homeroom teacher has a different genre on her, the simple idea of getting a Honey to getting a Baby/Babies... is too much but per first impression really sucks because I already know Johnny Bepp. Yeah, its nostalgic to get an opposite version of Johnny Bepp but at the same time its ridiculous but its not like I hate her overall until she left her class and said something like "try to produce on your own" when she clearly stated that she was going to teach them "how to produce thenselved", isn't that unresponsible?. Johnny Bepp on the other hand tries his best to please his honeys... Even going overboard.

2nd, I realized that the author really likes blondes or is it just me? Hoshimiya, Ichigo is blonde (fluffy hair) and this new MC, Nijino, Yume (pig tails) is one too. Not to sound bad but just saying... I like them too... XD

3rd, one of the S4 is also blonde! Yay! Anyway, if you compare Kanzaki, Mizuki which has an elegance in her; Shiratori Hime on the other hand is kind of on the rock side, I think but later on episode 1 she will be caring senpai which is nice. I remembered Mizuki tempting Ichigo which is kind of like that. Cute...

4th, Starlight Academy offers a single course which is to do all the work from producing yourself, dance, dresses and etc. Dream Academy was given 3-4 courses which you would like to focus on if I remembered correctly and it has so much tech in them and now, I see 4 big stars in them from 4 different sections. Will it be like DreAca or not?

5th, Hey now, Starlight forbids romance; DreAca just needs your passion (so getting in a relationship was okay?, they didn't give details about such things) but this new school for Four Star Academy has a half idol school especially for guys as well... well now... I'm in awe... I wanna enroll... but one of the important topic in this line of message is that "Did our MC met her couple?", sorry, imma shipping them faster than you could ever imagine and what's more is that he looks more like Sena...

6th, yeah, lets get rolling... the chairman or principal of that school is a guy! and what's more, he's got an air of narcissism... well, I don't, don't like it!

7th, they can create their own dresses with machines so designers may not be needed in this series and I hope not.

There were many things I like as well like her new rival or friend that was late but pardoned.
and songs that I found interesting but the cutscenes in each episode needs more elegance like in the 1st series would be ideal and adding your Aikatsu cards are looking for like a game than a magical machine. The inner chamber was like from space and jumping through trampoline was also nice.

P.S. The Art Style may seem different from the 1st series but i think its not because its made by the same BNP.

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.
