Hmm, this one almost seemed like a musical at first.

actually quite awesome visuals considering.

not quite sold on (the style of) the music, the animation was like a gentle glowing mushroom trip through mystical prehistory though, in a grainy black and white sort of way

It did have interesting visuals, very interesting. But I couldn't grasp what was happening at all. From the name of the anime I thought it could be the National Anthem sung, maybe it was something about the founding of the country, idk.

Yeah it's just fragments of their creation myths.

I remember some of it is covered in http://myanimelist.net/anime/3905/Wanpaku_Ouji_no_Orochi_Taiji which is an early animated feature based on these myths (well, they mention at the start how the gods stirred up the oceans, and let a drop fall which became Japan. There's also the part of Susano's journey where the goddess of light hides away in a mountain and they tempt her out with a dance routine, forcing the cave open when she peeks out).

Not much to actually get your teeth into here, I expected more plot on second viewing!

Yeah, when it got to that part I immediately figured out what was going on, and things "clicked" for me.

They wasted a half of the movie with credits. My gosh...

should this thign really be considered a "movie"? I get the abductive reasoning of the other entries but this is literally just the national anthem played over some short animations. It's no different than any other music listed entry like Dracula no Uta or something which is a song played over a short animation.

that was a pretty song. Felt more like a lyric video than anything else

very detailed characters.
good song.
the story would have been more understandable if the film was longer.

This felt like the end of my life, truly morbid!

But weirdly enough i liked it and the old epic visuals.

neat experimental shadow puppet animation

limited, of course, but the dark psychedelic imagery is aesthetically interesting

Pretty nice piece of history considering this was the national anthem of Japan.
