Oh Piast...he has big ambitions in his mind. Got more talk about astronomical theories. It's interesting how they are still keeping Jolenta relevant to tap into her own thoughts. Feels like Piast could be more important with what he sets out to accomplish in his life. |

As soul-crushing it must've been to do on his deathbed, it's commendable of Piast to plainly accept the invalidation of his and the thousands before him's life's work as the truth. As far as final sights go, at least the dude got one of the better ones. Also, I've been thinking about it for a while but Jolenta really reminds me of a Team Plasma Grunt from Pokemon BW lol |

This episode once again made me shed tears. What a sad but beautiful episode. Humaniy's efforts to know the truth for all this time and the time they spent on their curiosity about this one subject. The years and the lives they spent on something that can be proven wrong with one simple observation. It was so painful to see both Piast's professors' words and Piast's tears when he was trying so hard to reject the truth so that his life's work didn't go to waste. It was such a sad moment for them and I felt so bad for them and all of the people before him who spent their entire lives understanding the universe. Made me appreciate this show even more today. I love it so much. Also, looks like Oczy wants to learn reading and writing. It could be life-changing for him as Jolenta mentioned, it's like a miracle. Beautiful episode. RIP Piast. Your work will not go to waste. It will be studied for generations to come and will be used for studying the truth of the universe as you intended it to be from the start. |

The reason this anime is so dark because when the brightness comes, it'll be so shining that you have to close your eyes from reflex. It's strange to say that I feel the holiness from anti-religious anime like this. Scientists at that time were too obsess with simplicity and symmetry. But who can blame them when even scientists in our time are still looking for elegant discoveries like theory of everything. |

At least, even at the end, Piast knew the truth... Another excellent episode that depicted the moment of learning something very well, along with the anxiety that might develop right before something revolutionary could be discovered. While I'm sure that knowing your life's work has been invalidated did not feel great, I think Piast would take comfort in that he got to find out the truth before he left this world. His work will still have a great amount of purpose, because knowing how scholars studied in the past is almost as essential as current studies. In the end, it goes to show that even the most revolutionary discoveries can be debunked by just a single new discovery, and that science is a continually fluid process. |

Another absolutely gorgeous episode man wow. Just give this anime of the season already. I’m sorry Dandadan. Tears in my eyes at that ending. There’s no better way to go out for Piast than gazing at the heavens, finally accepting the truth of the solar system and appreciating all of God’s beautiful creations. Religion and science don’t have to be contradictions, science can strengthen your faith and when you see the cosmos in all their glory like that last scene it just drives it all home. I understand Piast struggling to accept the “truth” of the helicoentric model earlier in the ep. I mean imagine someone just comes out of nowhere and tells you that your entire life’s work and the life’s work of thousands before you is completely wrong. It would be beyond shocking. But at the same time, the truth will set you free I love the Jolenta and Oczy scene where she explains the miraculous nature of reading and writing. It’s really only in the last 200 years of human history that average people could go to school, so my heart breaks for someone like Oczy who’s obviously intellectually curious but just lacks the formal training. Amazing episode as per. Still worried about Jolenta’s dad finding out about her tho 😭 |

Piast story finished. His ideas and knowledge over the years were simply useless, and that was proven in this episode. At that moment when Piast did not want to hand over the key he was already aware of this: his knowledge and his study to date have been invalid from the moment Oczy managed to see Venus. Those tears were of deep sadness, imagine dedicating your entire life to studying something and in the end they prove to you that all your study was simply done wrong for years. Piast is definitely the character with an excellent story construction so far. Him knowing that he was studying something wrong, and giving people the opportunity to make a correct analysis of what he did wrong was simply beautiful and sad at the same time. Sometimes all we have to do is accept that we might be wrong about something. Pias did exactly that, he managed to show that even if he was wrong, he would not carry such mistakes into the future. The final scene of Piast looking at the sky and crying only proves how much he saw his mistakes, but there he already knew, there was no way to change what he had already studied. All he could do was let the truth come out, though he wouldn't be the one to do it... This was definitely the only and best good episode of Orbe that I felt successful seeing the whole outcome (my opinion). Maybe the only thing missing was a soundtrack in that final scene, but other than that, it was a magnificent episode. I hope good characters start appearing after Piast. The only good character so far. 5/5 |

Quote of the episode: "If all those years did not lead to an answer, perhaps the truth never needed us at all. However, even if we were wrong, what we have written will have meaning to history." - Piast We're glad you were able to leave for the heavens while gazing at them one final time. Your contributions were invaluable; you really did leave your mark in history. The time has come to meet your mentor and tell him what the truth is. |

Having your whole life's work be tainted by a mistake is something that some people decide to hide while others use it as a way to reinvent themselves. Piast's case was delicate and upon the explanation of how Venus's position put his model of the cosmos in jeopardy he decided to quickly answer with a possible yet in actuality wrong explanation. The sense of security fiddles in the hands of faith and the series has a tendency to make things we nowadays take from granted seem that much more epic. How else would you explain the way their referred to the ability to read? Marvelous. |

This anime is so good, like, it deserves this growth in recognition it's getting! They did such an incredible job at portraying the importance these studies have on people, not only on those that are making the studies, that are spending their whole lives researching about that subject, and, in the end, their theory might actually be completely wrong, making it seem like their life was a waste, but also on those like Oczy, that knowing that the center is not on the bottom of the universe will make him able to appreciate the beauty of the Earth. The scene where Count Piast was giving the key to Badeni was so impactful, you could truly see that he wanted to know the truth to be known, but he also didn't want all those thousand of years of research to go down the drain. In fact, we all know that the heliocentric model is the correct one now, but for all we know, at the time, this model could also be wrong, and this whole anime could be a search for something that isn't the truth. The reflection about reading and writing by Jolenta by the end of the episode was also really interesting, it is true that this is our way of communicating with the people from the past, and it's so interesting to see how things have evolved. And her talk in the midle of the episode with Oczy about how this Earth is way too beautiful to just be a place for humans to pay for their sins was also really deep, and I think it helped Oczy to understand his feelings better. Big respect for Oczy for being able to surprass his trauma, and actually looking at Venus, looking for the truth. That scene with Venus was also beautiful. I wonder what will happen to Jolenta now, since it seems she's backing away from the research. I really hope that's not what's happening, because she is my favourite character from the 3! The end of the episode, with the death of Count Piast, was just heartbreaking really. They directed the scene so well, and the animationw as beautiful. This anime just keeps on getting better and better! |

RIP to Piast and his mentor. While it was hard for them to realize that what they devoted their lives to may have been wrong (which it was) as others have already said their research will still have meaning at least as a historical reference. Moving forward I'm curious to see where these characters' lives go, I think Badeni will study the massive amount of data that he just obtained and maybe Oczy will learn to read. Speaking of Oczy, if Nowak cracks down on them Oczy is a good fighter that can stand up to him and regarding Jolenta, I hope she keeps growing and remains safe (I wouldn't put it past her dad to kill her if he found out that she's been involved with heliocentrism). |

@phantomfandom Don't know if "anti-religious" is the right word. It's more like an "anti-dogmatic" situation, and embracing both science and religion. |

What a heavy episode. Realizing near the end of your life that you’ve been nurturing a mistake is absolutely devastating. At least Piast found peace, passing on the truth to his master while surrounded by what he loved most. I love how this anime consistently contrasts "truth" with the search for meaning, emphasizing that the two don’t necessarily depend on each other. Our motivation to live can be based on something fictional, something that might not even be remembered tomorrow because the truth is ever-changing. But that sense of purpose drives us—and in the end, that’s all that truly matters. |

@utopia- Love your comment! Piast's research is not useless though. As Hubert says to Rafal, "An incorrect answer is not a meaningless one". All mistakes are stepping stones towards the truth. In this case, Piast's knowledge is Badeni's stepping stone. |

Peak dialogue this episode with some hard hitting lines, it almost makes me forgot how yet again this episode has 0 brightness. Please Hope. Cold cold cold. 🥶 🥶 🥶 Count Piast saying "Venus in its final phase" went so unexpectedly hard. But then after these 2 peak lines we get some cheesy "This is what it means... to learn something, I think." Line. It ruined my moment. |

I just KNEW the old man was going to try and cheat with the circle square eye test! Good thing Oczy really does have good eyesight. Oooh Venus is full! Oops that's not a good thing for his geo-centric theory even if he has already seen it before and knows this. I think at the very end he has finally admitted to himself that the truth is the model is heliocentric. So at least he came to terms with it before he died. But that book being left open is not a good thing. Will our intrepid trio lose access to the library after his passing? Guess we'll find out next episode. |

@BIGDnDGirl Thanks. Yes, that's exactly it, it's that thing, you know, "to reach a satisfactory result, we have to make mistakes countless times until we reach the result." For example, when we learn mathematics, we don't know a quadratic equation right away, so we have to make mistakes until we learn it. The story of Count Piast was exactly that, but with astronomy. He made mistakes countless times throughout his life, but the mistakes will now be going into the future until someone finds the "truth". That final scene of him crying is precisely the sense of insignificance in the face of the study he did throughout his life in the wrong way. There he recognized that he was not a adept to continue, but he would have to let go of his selfishness and let his failed attempts become the truth in the future. It was beautiful! |
