Romcoms are my favorite genre, so I'm happy any time a romance show comes out (except for last season, wow that was all trash with small exception). Anyway, however, I don't really care for sports anime. A little too much friendship power and "huh ruh!" for me. So, is this show more of a heartwarming/ cutesy romance or a "huh ruh!" sports show? Or does it strike a balance and doesn't seem to favor one over the other?

I've watched all eps so far and would say it's 50/50 maybe. Also the mc is playing badminton so there isn't a lot of the regular tropes sports anime have that focus on teams

Agreed, it’s a 50/50 slice of life school romance/ sports anime. The art is really soft and sparkly and ageing adult males like myself probably shouldn’t watch it. But it’s totally my bag so sue me…
Also, even the badminton, though well presented, is just a mechanism to allow for more closeness between the main couple.

I haven’t read the manga, however I’ve heard that it’s more sports-focussed at the beginning. So, although the anime will likely have a lot of romance, I’m pretty sure it’ll lean on the sports side of things.

I disagree btw, not as likely MakeIne as Giji Harem, by far the most complete romance last season.

It really seems like sport here is just a plot device and its primarily a romance.

As a manga reader, I'd say this hits the nail on the head.

I was about to say something similar. the sports give them a common goal to bond over. otherwise I think we would have a bit more detail about MC's badminton skills

It’s really not a sports series. It’s a romance series that happens to be about athletes

I'm just curious 🤔

Rather than Summer Season i would say Spring 2024 was really worst except some titles. There were really great titles in the previous season İ really loved those.

You got it. Romcoms have gone into the dumpster in the past several years. That one was solid though, for such a dry season.

Overall more focused on romance but sports plays a heavy roll in it and gets a decent amount of screen time with the male mc when he is practicing or scrimmaging

@PixelGlide Spring was the season of sequels. We have Konosuba, Jobless, Demon Slayer, Slime, My Hero, Date A Live, Magic High School, and the Spice and Wolf Remake. But, yeah, for new IPs, I would say Kaiju and Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again were the only ones I really cared about.

Meanwhile for Summer we had Oshi No Ko, which was the carry. Tower of God S2 got boring towards the end, My Deer Friend Nokotan started strong but lost momentum, Days with My Stepsister is just a read the title and leave moment with crappy immature characters, Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian had the same problem but with a premise that inevitably got old and cringy past episode 1 (and the *insert sister that wants to screw her brother character*), and Giji Harem was some cringy little girl delivering on some guys pervy fantasies because he's the main character so she has to want his PP.

Makeine was decent but it also fell off towards the ending episodes as it forgot it was supposed to be a parody that follows the background character and instead turned full harem. Summer 2024 was the worst season in years.

@Nox_Tenebris TBH i would say Giji Harem was the best at all. Because with only 2 main characters they still carried the whole 12 episodes which is really though. Moreover it was the most wholesome anime throughout the season no fanservice etc. I completely agree with Alya situation and i didn't even gave a single try to Days with my Step sister like i know its just a shit. Makeine was great at start but after 6 episodes it started to lose its pace. How to become ordinary was good tbh but not at the level of Hyouka. Love is invisible by twins is great tbh i loved it I really like rivalry type romantic anime but it has some fanservice which was not needed tbh.

@PixelGlide I watched the first episode of Giji Harem before writing it off. But what you said about the other shows I agree with, so I might give it another go. Thanks. I took one look at Love Is Indivisible by Twins and said "hell no". I also can't stand fanservice, but if you say it is good despite that, it might be worth a shot.

Read the manga a while back. I’d say it’s like 60% romance 40% sports from what I remember. The 60% romance is pretty well done though so I’d recommend giving it a watch

As someone who's been reading the manga since day 1

It's absolutely more of a romance manga than a sports manga (I personally have nothing against sports manga, I've read up to chapter 30ish of haikyuu and have been enjoying but forgot to continue reading)

The sports bits are never really discussed in depth, outside of taiki mulling over what he needs to improve and stuff. Sports focused chapters are also more focused on the tension the match provides and action scenes than strategizing/analyzing during the actual match.

It's a dealbreaker for some (I know atleast 1 person who couldn't imagine anyone liking this when the sports bits are not fleshed out) but it's a non-issue for me

Calling days with my stepsister trash without even giving it a try is pretty unfair. The title is bait. The show isn't about that at all. The same way bunnygirl senpai was bait, but the show was not about bunnygirls. Don't write it off just because of the title.

@Nox_Tenebris I mean everyone has its own taste of anime I recommend watching atleast 3 episodes of every anime before dropping that would give you all of your answers that can you complete it or not.

No it's not? Boiling it down to incest when you haven't even watched a single episode is like me saying the Oppenheimer movie is just nukes without having ever seen it. It's pretty disingenuous. There's not even a kissing scene in the show. The most they did at the end was hug.

You should listen to your own advice and see whether or not it really is "incest" after three episodes like you so claim.

@Master_Chef bro read my reply correctly, Its in future chapters of Light Novel, anime hasn't been adapted to that chapter if you don't believe me you can google yourself you will find many reddit posts and even LN pages. The three episodes rule is for those anime which you give atleast a try i think you understand my point there.

1. It's much more about the romance in the grand scheme
2. Days with my step sister was by far the best romance of the last season and if you haven't even seen it you can't say shit

Blue Box, which highlights the main character's sport of each discipline. However, the romance is a bit weak and there is no lovebird couple at all. The anime's strong point is having a sports championship!
