The stage greeting event commemorating the opening of the Mononoke: Karakasa anime movie revealed on Saturday that a second installment is in production.

Voice actor Hiroshi Kamiya, who plays the lead character Kusuriuri (Medicine Seller) in the movie, mentioned that the recording for the sequel will begin on Sunday.

Kenji Nakamura (Kuuchuu Buranko) returned to direct the movie at EOTA. Yuuichi Takahashi (Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song) designed the characters and Taku Iwasaki (Bungou Stray Dogs) composed the music. The movie commemorates the original anime series' 15th anniversary.

Mononoke, a spin-off of the 2006 anthology Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror, aired in 12 episodes on Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block in Summer 2007. Nakamura directed the fantasy horror series at Toei Animation, with Takashi Hashimoto (C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control) serving as the character designer and chief animation director.

Wow! It's truly surprising to see a +15 year-old show receiving two sequels, with the second being announced even before the release of the first.

no, it has been premiered on movie theaters in Japan. it was "mentioned by Hiroshi Kamiya on the premiere stage greeting of the movie (where the casts appear and talk about the movie on the first day it released on movie theater) that the recording of part 2 will begin the next day (which is on Sunday)".

These movies are the first time Kenji Nakamura's directed an anime in like a decade, and it's for a franchise I never expected to get brought back, let alone get a second movie. I'm so happy we're getting two of these!
