The way episode 10 played out reminds me of a manhwa I read a while back called 'Existence'

We were promised human extinction but all we got was a million year old simp with mommy issues and power of love and friendship BS straying completely from the original plot

Episode 10 reminds me exactly of that. The entire point of the show was the revenge plot, watching Fighter D infiltrate the rangers, train, power up, beat the rangers and eventually world domination but they've introduced the classic shonen power of friendship and now D is siding with the rangers after bonding with them instead of the boss monster. I can smell the trash ending coming from a mile away where D sees the good in humans and gives up his idea of world domination completely going back on the original thing everyone is anticipating.

I'm all for authors straying from the original plot line. Vinland Saga went from fightfightfight to 'I have no enemies' and was peak and Vagabond went from becoming the strongest under the sun to a story about inner peace. I cant really think of more examples off the top of my head. Anyway, as long as the author executes it well, straying from the original plot can be incredible!

However in a show like this where the main appeal, for me at least, was the villain MC going for revenge and world domination only to divert into the good in humanity and betraying our expectations would just be so trash

Now, most probably the author will continue with the original plot, but I cant help but worry about the direction of the story in the future and the chance of being blueballed so hard after the events of episode 10

Well that was it. Lets pray author doesnt disappoint us

Its written by the guy who made us all suffer alot of volumes for it him to write around 1 single girl in the end, not surprising that he would give people alot of questions on how this story would be any good.

Are u serious or joking? The entire manhwa community pretty much unanimously agreed that existence was trash and a massive letdown

The first few chapters were incredible but after that it was all over the place and increasingly got worse as it went on

I get what you mean and I had the exact same Moment with Epispde 10.

But...
wasn't that obvious? Of course the MC would, sooner or later, inevitably become the Standart Shonen-Good-Guy. I saw that coming the moment the Show started.

I feel you, tho.
There was an actual opportunity to make this a more unique Story than it turned out to be

The show was getting a lot of hype so I ignored it at first and only realised it after episode 10

But yeah you're right, I should've seen it coming from the start itself

You should watch episodes 11 and 12. He doesn’t side with the rangers, he decides to go against both the rangers and the bosses, it’s very clear he’s not on either of their sides

He is on no one’s side. He still doesn’t like the rangers and doesn’t like the executives abandoning him

the exams arc is boring af. I don't even care for a single person othen than the MC, heck i even forgot about the original red hair guy.

they should learn from naruto how to make chunin exams excited and make us love almost all the characters in that arc.

It became a lot more of what I'd expect from a generic battle shounen further into the season starting with the ranger cadets' tournament arc in the parking garage and then the issue only compounded after that with, as you allude to, the main character's abrupt about-face which felt completely unearned and nonsensical, not really fitting into the context of his role in the world and story and everything we had known about it up to that point. Thereafter, his actions and the script in general designed to twist and contort around to justify them, became increasingly incoherent and very slapdash and sloppy-feeling.

Which is very unfortunate and regrettable considering the first few episodes, at least to me, made it seem like it would be a much more exciting and unique thrilling take on an infiltration story with a greater ideological conflict as the backdrop than what was later delivered upon by the kind of tsundere faux-antihero.

All it amounted to in the end was a very misleading lead-in. I started watching this series several weeks into the season and was pleasantly surprised to an extreme degree at first as it looked from the poster and synopsis like the kind of thing I would overlook on the first reading through of all the seasonal shows and pass over as the standard action battle shounen fare, only instead to be very impressed. And then it quickly degenerated after the first few episodes and became much closer to the stereotypical image I had of it in my mind prior to starting it. It went from me thinking early on that it might make my top five, top three, maybe even be my favorite of the whole season, to not even registering in the top 10.

None of that made it a bad show per se. Just a "fine", "average", "decent", "whatever" one of which there are an endless amount to choose from. And the kind I watched and finished the first season of, and was perfectly content to do so, but also have no desire to watch the second season or continue with so I doubt I will. Some 5-6/10-tier series are fine to watch and once you start and watch at least a few episodes you want to ultimately finish at least one full season of, but it's not the kind of series I'm going to want to watch 60 or 100 episodes of or something (not saying there will even be that many - just hypothetical). At that point, I'd rather just watch a classic battle shounen like Dragonball or Naruto or something which is probably even better than it even though it's not my preferred genre.
