I am writing this text to find out from you what opinion the film left you, what conclusions did you draw after several additional searches, yes, the series is twisted and it takes time to search and for me Eva has a special place, it was a series with ups and downs but I really liked it!

I would consider it one of the best films of all time. There is so much to think about and dissect. The original last two episodes were a starting point and the movie is its logical conclusion.

Come on, we all know Pen Pen is the best.

To answer the original question though, I think Eva is a work of art, though one that is entirely subjective like no other.

Someone could absolutely love this series and think it’s a masterpiece, and I would completely understand why they think that.
Yet someone could absolutely hate it and think it’s a terribly written piece of garbage. And I would also completely understand that as well.

It’s very unique in that way. And every single person will tell you a very different opinion they have and what kind of an impact it left on them.
It’s a work of art, though certainly not one everyone will enjoy, and that’s ok.

Personally I think as a piece of entertainment, it fails in almost every way.

The underlying messaging might be thought provoking but I found the movie to be terrible.

If you watched this as a *show* then you f'd up from the start. It is not meant to be seen as just an anime, it's more like a philosophical and psychological depiction of how a human feels into an anime. Some episodes are meant to feel weird from a normal person's perspective for example episode 20 or 15 but if you watch those episodes while picking up the hints then you'll get to see how big of a masterpiece Evangelion is. That's why I loved all the Eva endings because they had their own message.

I didn't specify that in the title, and yes, it's not just any kind of anime, it has many perspectives beyond the anime world, and it's not just limited to a few randomly transmitted ideas.

Exactly, to relieve him in his dark time, but also to push him further into it as Shinji has to kill him, it's really tragic.

Shinji and Kaworu had a relationship from the beginning, a fact that impressed me personally the way Kaworu understood Shinji and they spent time together every time Shinji was having a hard time. But everything fell apart, Shinji not understanding what Kaworu wanted to convey at a given moment, sad but beautiful!

It’s one of those rare piece that you can draw numerous interpretations from and be right because the whole of the show, especially the movie, draws on both the most primordial and existentially subconscious parts of our brain.

I’ve given an international graduate speech in anime in San Diego on Evangelion, and it’s role in a larger topic on its contribution to anime as a whole which I believed was on the brink of taking over the America. This was back in 2015 and 2019.

When Covid popped off you can bet your sweet butt that I was right. Manga sales have quadrupled since 2019. Anime is only growing more popular.

This is all to say you’ve now seen Evangelion. Congrats! Hope you enjoyed it as much as you could. Keep sitting on it and thinking about it occasionally. You’ll come to love it more.

Thank you very much for the kind words, I really appreciate that you like the series, not only the movies, it's something unheard of in the anime world and that's cool!

Once you see through the Asuka vs Rei, Misato is a pdf file, it's sexist, etc. accusations and actually focus on what the anime truly is, you'll realize it's not your typical shonen, and it's way beyond that. The amount of detail is insane, the meaning behind every single scene and how everything is built very carefully, the depth and purpose that every single character has and the overall fantastic concept is what makes it a perfect show for me. Yes, it's disturbing and weird, but not in a perverted way like many people see it, more as in a provocative way, trying to express discomfort, exhaustion, pain. It's an anime made purely with heart, as you can see in the way it wasn't even taken seriously by the production who gave it nothing but crumbs to develop, yet it still managed to be one of the most iconic animes in history.

Because movies are supposed to be entertaining.

I don’t wanna see weird nonsense happening like Shinji jizzing in his hand at a hospital.

Thanks for the answer, maybe that's why I liked it more, considering the fact that it combined a strange atmosphere and I felt it. It's a unique anime in its own way and that's why I appreciate it!
