If you really think about it, Dungeons can be thought as other world, and the MC and other people come and go to this so called dungeon/other world. Plus the common trope about isekai that the MC have some special/OP skill.

This is not like Danmchi, that they just explore regular dungeons.

Mild Spoiler. Later when the monarch are introduce it was stated that they are from another world/dimension.

Nope, when the anime reach certain point you'll see why this looks like an Isekai or something like that. But you gotta wait almost till the lasts seasons to understand. But they'll explain it.
Is Chainsaw Man overrated or just overhyped?

It's not an Isekai. Mostly, an Isekai is when a main character travels to another world and can't come back. If it's the other way around, they are referred to as invaders or visitors. I know it's support character being Isekai, but apparently not enough to call it an Isekai.

Nope.
This is a separate genre. Don't know if it has any official name, but it's as popular in Korea nowadays as isekais are popular in Japan.
I call it System apocalypse, as some apocalyptic situation comes onto humans of earth, and it comes with system, dungeons and quests.

I wouldn't put it together with Isekais as it's genre as big as Isekai itself, so it would totally change the definition of what is isekai if we included that, and I just heard that the word Isekai was just recently added to the English dictionary... Would be a shame to have to redefine it right afterward.

@Chomusuke02 And you´re correct. It´s just that people around here aren´t very famous for being able to wait and see what happens.

Fuck No!!!
I admit that it carries a bit of isekai traits like traveling to another world or OP MC.

But generally it ain't worth it to call it isekai.

it's like tagging Naruto or Dragon ball as isekai because the travel to either different dimensions or different worlds.

I think there exists a genre to which Solo Leveling belongs and it's called "System" so it's not an isekai.
But there certainly are some tropes that are common for both of those genres.

In that perspective, would SAO be a partial isekai, since they couldn’t comeback from the game world for a time?

I didn’t think it was, but your def made me curious.

I had thought isekai was when a soul was reincarnated or when a person is summoned or both into another world or universe.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

isekai literally means other world, but because the genre so often uses reincarnation or video game themes, people seem to automatically think any sure with reincarnation or video game style fantasy worlds are isekai. jinwoo may have been reincarnated, and given a video game style hud, he in no way was sent to another world in the process, nor does the character or show spend most of it's time in the dungeons.

take iseleve, sure, he could go between worlds, but the other world was a mystery to him, he didn't know that the door would actually go to another world, whereas Gates are well known, hunters enter them of their own intention, and they are well aware of what will be in there.

in iseleve, he also spends equal or majority of his time and the show in the other world, where, (atleast so far) has spent relatively little time in the "other world"(dungeons)

@ejleon SAO isn't a Isekai, just because the world is still a game, instead of a actually world. Even if they were trapped for a while they were in the game not in different world.

If we consider the story and WHY the dungeons exist in the first place, which anime-only people don't know yet, then it's not isekai.

It technically is, but not due to the dungeons.
That being said, I don't think there's a point in adding that tag, it should be left when something being an isekai is an important point of the setting from the start.

Not isekai. It's a show of human with super power. There is no other world in this show with different nations/civilizations, different ecosystem etc.. It's literally just holes with monsters and loots......?

@hory-portier The genre is simply called Fantasy. Sometimes the answer is too easy to get it :)
I'm not reading any replies or comments directed at me at all. I know my truth and if you disagree: that's fine but i couldn't give a damn about :)

@Sajonji Nah. Almost everything is fantasy. Isekai too.
I mean the sub-genre on the level equal to isekai.
