Just finished this peakkkk. When this show was airing a lot of people dislike this show because of the mc. However after I've tried this show and finished this season, I gotta say that the mc is the one who make this show special, unique and enjoyable. If the mc is the typical type of romcom mc it would be boring but Ichikawa really surpass my expectations. Does anyone had the same thought as me πŸ€”

Most people think he starts off super edgy and cringe and it kind of left a bad first impression, myself included, but I ended up really loving the show very quickly when his character was changed. I do find it kind of strange that they glanced over the whole idea of him wanting to “kill her” initially and it’s never really brought up again lol, but I think maybe the mangaka knew it wasn’t that great of a concept and it was too much and they dropped it. Whatever the reasoning, his character took a turn for the best and I agree that he is a solid character now

I think people only disliked him for the first few eps. I didn't hear any hate about him after. I also didn't watch this show when it was airing. But I watched it this year and it surpassed my expectations too. This show has to be one of the biggest surprises for me and not just this year, but all time.

I probably don't like it anymore. It's pretty generic. The beginning was indeed quite bad but the ending seemed to be forcefully justifying the beginning. I'm not very okay with it.

I thought him wanting to kill her was his way of coping with the thought that he would never stand a chance to get even close to a girl like Yamada. So when he actually does, those thoughts vanish.

he is a giga chad , very talented, brave when it's needed, straight forward sometimes when needed, he is not like other simp MC's.
you are correct,he is the one that makes this anime good, in recent episodes he showed that he is not gonna give up, and indirect said another guy that Yamada belongs to him

The mc was a bit annoying with his murder fantasies in the beginning but it was understandable knowing that he was still in middle school

Honestly just watching his character grow from that trope and him starting to accept his feelings and people around him makes the slow buildup in the beginning entirely worth it

Just reread what I wrote in my first reply cus you are making no senseπŸ’€

Tbh I didn't like the MC for the first while that much, but he gets better. It actually fits when you think about it though. It's believable to me that a middle school boy would be this absolute cringe in his edgeyness. He's a literal child only grasping at glimpses of mature consciousness. He should come off as cringe if he's a depressed loser his age.

I thought the show was a parody of edge lord humor at first, but I think the writers actually inteded his character to be a serious statement on youths in depression.

To me the winning part of this story is the interactions these two characters have together. I'm looking forward to the second season when the dub comes around. Really hoping they don't do that thing romance shows are plagued with where their relationship sort of starts back over at the beginning of season 2. The momentum and direction of the first season was actually quite good. I want to see more of this couple's interactions.

Is this a note to yourself? You just wrote shit like "i too think the same" and told someone else to fix their grammar. Maybe you're joking, but there's just so many layers to your bullshit that I cannot tell.

If not, you're wrong. Define generic, explain how this is, and then, using those same standards, try to explain how tokyo revengers, jjk and bleach are not. I won't hold my breath. A lot of people enjoy this type of story, which is why it's getting more seasons. I cannot fathom why people older than 15 like code geass, but they do, yet I understand why it was made and completed.

OK "How does this show get a season 2?"...OBVIOUSLY its popular in Japan thats what. I actually followed the bokuyaba X page of the author and that time when s1 was still airing, every week and every episode its always trending on X in Japan. By that numbers its already a given. Everyone, like literally everyone in Japan is talking about this every week when the show airs

Yeah, I didn't like the anime after I saw the 1st ep and I dropped it. But after seeing more and more people on Twitter posting how good it is I gave it another watch. By the time I picked it up again it was on ep 9. And for my surprise I started enjoying it from ep 2 and then ep3. And I ended up loving the series.

I also hated the first 3-4 episodes because the mc was just edgy and weird. But that was only because I assumed he would never show growth and self awareness.

The character growth in this show is fantastic and the first season is basically the mc learning that the way he saw the world was wrong on so many levels, and then proceeds to try working towards changing that viewpoint, though its done with great difficulty, as it would be realistically.

Him being so easy to hate at the start is what makes the growth so satisfying.

Well people keep saying hes your typical male MC.
Outside of the loner guy trope that the beautiful heroine falls for i dont really see him as your typical MC

First of all both leads are not dense, one is an over-thinker with low self confidence whilst the other is a little clumsy.

For me its all about character development. Ichikawa even mentions at the beginning “Theres something wrong with my head” when hes thinking about the murder fantasy.

There are only a few romance animes where the MC doesn’t deny to themselves that they like the other person (miyuki from Kaguya-sama, Komura from sukinako ga megane) and even tells it to someone else within the first season.

The side characters don’t get a lot of screen time but when they do, they make an impact to the story and are not unremarkable. (Except for Chii who is the dense one) heck even for a person like Adachi who is a pervert shows he does have a cute side to him.

Even Nanpai at the end of ep 4 of season 2 showed a little care for ichikawa not accidentally confessing to yamada.

Its a journey of self improvement, and its not just the male lead its everyone even the side characters which makes this show feel special

well one of the reasons why i like the story is cuz it has the aspect of growing up and maturing. We see this constantly with ichikawa throughout the story. Ichikawa actually grows out of his shell, shows actual development, unlike a lot of characters from this genre. I personally dont think ichikawa alone is what makes the story great, i would say its cuz of the relationship between the leads, the growing up theme and the constant progression. Each episode you feel like there has been progress, it doesnt feel like the story stagnates or that is going backwards.

I think it makes a lot of sense that he forgot about it quickly, he was just having edgy thoughts as a way to feel "powerful" even though he is actually insecure. It's like imagining that you could beat that big guy that is passing you on the street when you are actually skinny and projecting your insecurities (I used to be like that lol). The moment he started to interact with others he forgot about all that edginess because it wasn't his true self to begin with.
