Remember when demon slave went from 2nd to 7th place on niconico? Well now the current ranking is 21 ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Also demon slave overshadowed by magical girls on google trends in japan when it started airing
@Gou_T

I don't know what some studios/directors are thinking when they adapt some anime

As if ppl aren't gonna be pissed if they change too much

But it's more likely imo that they just don't give a shit as they expect the manga to still sell

I'm enjoying/following both and yeah, Slave had more than twice more followers than MahoAko on X before this season started but now MahoAko had surpassed it.

MahoAko is also looking to be the best-selling anime (Blu-ray/DVD) this season.

It's not that Slave is doing badly but MahoAko has just been unhinged and surprisingly good for an ecchi anime.

For US blu-rays, I just use Crunchyroll store.
For JP blu-rays, you can either use CD Japan or Ami Ami

I don't disagree, though having read both prior, I'm not surprised though them making Akogarete even lewder in the anime was unexpected

That said, I don't think there's any particular need to turn it into a fandom war against each other. Not like they have much to do with each other aside from both airing the same season

No worries, man. I'm watching both and reading their mangas as well and while I do agree Gushing Over Magical Girls, in just 3, episodes has given real ecchi more than Chained Soldier, things will get intense later as the anime of Chained Soldier goes on. You're in for a treat. I can assure you.

Yuri stuff sells. Series with male main characters just don’t sell as much anymore it seems (aside from stuff like One Piece and JJK I mean). Hate the way this is going but if many anime fans nowadays would have it their way they would eliminate males entirely

@Animillion I don't really like the direction it's going too, the only popular stuff is always stuff with yuri elements in it these days.

This Season is just insane.

Who would have thought that Gushing over Magical Girls would completely be the go to ecchi series this season overshadowing Mato no Seihei Slave.

If someone said to me before the season started that Gushing over Magical Girls would be the superior ecchi series, I'd have laughed and them and said that they'd had to read the Mato no Seihei Slave Manga to see what the anime would be like.

Instead the current animation studio for Mato no Seihei Slave made a completely soulless adaption which is lacking everything from great action to great ecchi.

It's just meh at best.

As a mato sehei no slave manga reader, its only been 2 episodes so not much ecchi is included, but i can confirm that it will get hot and steamy later
@Dabbingpotato you do know that the anime skipped Kyouka's reward from chapter 2 right? So the anime is already even tamer than the manga at this point. And even the ecchi scenes that the anime has done so far just doesn't look that good and appealing imo.

Demon slave is already flopping hard in japan while mahosho is doing good

Also for those saying "that was just the beginning, it will get more steamy later" they skipped half of chapter 2 on last episode and that included a tame kyoko reward scene. If they don't include this scene by next episode, don't even expect the more spicier scenes to be adapted
@Gou_T exactly this lol, I'm kinda concerned by the lack of people who aren't frustrated by the anime completely skipping such a nice reward scene from chapter 2. It's clear that the anime staff doesn't care if a good ecchi scene gets removed as long as they get to rush through the chapters in a hurry.

It's just not a good adaptation.

if the adaptation of a manga like this were more faithful, the anime AND the BD pre-sales would be higher up, this is the kind of anime you CAN'T get away with censoring/toning down

I'm not saying its ALWAYS the case, but adaptations like Redo of Healer, Futoku no Guild and now Magical girl sell really well cause the shows don't hold back

now Slave only has 10 more episodes to prove itself, and if they don't focus on what they skipped in the next episode, that will definitely kill peoples hope

Edens zero had better animation, didn't censor any lewd scenes and is as horny yet the anime adaptation didn't boost the sales lol
@Saimatsu_Fan Edens Zero anime is heavily toned down from the manga for the fanservice scenes. To say that the anime doesn't have censorship is straight up false.

Idk so far, just like the manga, there havent been as many scenes at this point in the anime, but sice best girl has arrived at the end of the lastest episode, it will slowly get spicy

But so far, the ecchi stuff in the manga has more or less been adapted, except for one part

@misfit25 so far the anime is tamer than the manga. They completely skipped a great reward scene from chapter 2, something which we were supposed to get in ep 2. And the overall quality of the ecchi scenes in the anime is also lacking imo.

@Nucleus69 More and more people seem to be disappointed with the anime and even demon slave fans who were hyping the anime up are now saying that gushing over magical girls is clearing demon slave and is the better ecchi this season and you can tell what happens when you rush and censor an anime when you look at how both animes are doing in japan

y'all trippin, perhaps the animation is somewhat subpar to what was expected for Mato no Seihei Slave, but at least all the main characters being sexualized are adults; this Gushing over Magical Girls anime apparently has 14-year-olds showing nips and getting into noncon BDSM encounters, from what I've read. and y'all are celebrating that. crazy, this is why everyone makes fun of anime fans.

@cyber_coupe_benz Shocking. Another hypocritical moral crusader. You watched all of Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo, so apparently 16 year old sex slaves are perfectly fine with you, but the contents of Gushing over magical girls is not. Can you please tell us where the line is that makes something wrong and something perfectly fine?

@Dunnas Fair point, fine, for fictional characters, an author can assign any age, so perhaps that's not a reliable standard. I shouldn't have pointed that out as my reason for griping about the show. So, in Slave Harem in Labyrinth of Another World, Roxanne has the proportions of a grown woman. There's another character in that anime, Vesta, who is apparently 15, but if you take a second to look at her appearance in the anime... what kind of 15 y/o typically looks like that? So the age is arbitrary when it comes to anime, because most characters are supposed to be drawn cutesy usually, and characters are drawn and aged younger, even though their proportions might actually be wildly different. It's what the character looks like, what they could be a depiction of in real life, that I would say matters most.

Another example that comes to mind of age being unreliable for anime characters, Jotaro Kujo from Jojo's, what kind of average 17 y/o looks like he's been in the Marines for years and is 6'5"? In another classic ecchi, High School DxD, Rias and Akeno at least look like they could be in college, proportions-wise and stature-wise, despite their assigned canonical ages. I believe Akeno is 17 at the start of the series, and Rias is 18 anyway to start out with. And that show actually has more substance to it than constant sexual scenarios, those are frequently done but there's a reasonable balance between actual substance and plot, and fanservice. I also watched Mushoku Tensei, where characters are accurately and realistically sized for their ages. Another controversial show apparently, but there's so much more to the show and it's more nuanced than just a few tense or questionable scenes here and there, and any scenes like that simply fit into the narrative and make sense for the growth and maturity of the main characters, they're not just merely fanservice.

So again, my point for all these examples is, my standard, where I feel the "line is that makes something wrong and something perfectly fine," is based on a character's appearance, if they actually look like they could be a depiction of a grown adult, a pre-teen, a college-age student, etc. That's what I usually go by. You have the "3000-year-old-dragon" meme argument that's typically used, but if the character looks like a depiction of a middle-schooler, that's definitely a no-go.

Now, looping back to Gushing over Magical Girls, no, I haven't watched the show, but just by perusing reviews and descriptions and all that, and looking up the ages and seeing that pretty much every single female main character is 14 and they actually look, act, and appear like their age, and that the main selling point of the show is all of them getting sexually harassed this way and that, BDSM everywhere... as well as the fact that this ecchi show is mostly just that throughout... I feel that, for that reason, Mato is the more defensible and reasonable show. Y'all can watch whatever you want, but I simply found it incredibly funny that this was even a thread in the first place.

@cyber_coupe_benz We'll have to agree to disagree there on the line being the appearance, but I certainly appreciate the detailed reply. I'm of the it is all fiction so it doesn't matter camp.

You should give gushing over magical girls a shot. If you are ok with the stuff in other shows you mentioned you shouldn't really have too many issues with it. I personally don't think the characters are designed to look particularly young, and if we were told they were in high school and not middle school you really wouldn't question it (they are likely just middle schoolers to follow usual marginal girl tropes). The girls being assaulted also generally don't hate it as much as you think they would, for reasons. It is a fun, ecchi show with likeable characters and great voice acting and clearly a lot of passion behind it from the creators, unlike Mato so far.

On an unimportant note, you do seem to have good taste as I am a huge fan of Mushoku Tensei.

@EcchiGodMamster I personally think even the ecchi scenes we HAVE gotten so far in the anime don't really... look good or appealing. The compositing and blur definitely hurts it, it's like they are intentionally ruining some of the good ecchi panels from the manga.

I especially don't like the way the anime does the panty shots, most of the time the panties aren't even clearly visible either due to them adding this weird filter or blur over them, or due to the camera panning up very quickly and making the view hazy and blurry. The quality of the fanservice scenes/shots in the anime is just not good imo. It's like the staff working on the anime don't know how to make the fanservice actually appealing and titillating.

@Nucleus69

well i know in some cases they only pan really fast or make shit harder to see for the TV version, they slow the shots down or make them clearer in the BD

so far, i do like the ecchi we've gotten, its just more so the art/animation quality being lacking at times for me... yea its just the panties don't have a black outline, the lines are more so the color of the panties themselves, so i know what you mean

but yea, those who worked on Magical Girls went way harder and its CLEAR they care, especially with how the upped the raunchiness

then again, Slave's director isn't an ecchi director, so it shouldnt be too surprising this is happening :/

@EcchiGodMamster yeah the choice of director for Slave is even more questionable for me. The studio is one thing, but at least in Gushing's case they got the experienced To Love Ru director as one of the directors for the show. Slave however has no directors who actually know how to do ecchi looking at their past works. I really don't understand what they were thinking.
