I just finished the highly praised first episode, Enjoyed it. However, I've been told that the show never fully commits to the revenge plot line (at least in the first season). Another aspect I enjoyed is the anime shedding light on the dark side of the entertainment industry, which the show doesn't commit to either, or so I've been told (at least in the first season). If that's the truth, I'm gonna be disappointed if I continue watching and the first season never delivers on what's been displayed in the first episode.

Maybe the second season starts dives into these aspects but my question for now is: Is it worth watching the remainder of the first season?

I enjoyed the first season despite the plot not progressing as much as I thought it would. It is kinda a slice of life ish vibe but it definitely builds up suspense for the next season so I’d say it’s worth

Hey the show has 3 aspects
1. The dark side of entertainment industry
2. The revenge of ai’s death
3. The youth of teenagers a little romance a little drama also a second chance for ruby at youth and her dream

They deliver all of this maybe not entirely in first season but im a manga reader i feel ghe anime will not disappoint

Well, if the show would fully commit to the revenge plot, Ruby would be barely significant character. Though I did not liked that Komachi B resurgence arc at all.
I don't think it will be a controversial statement to say thst this show peaked at episode one.

I will say you should continue. They slowed the story of revenge in season 1 for a reason. They wanted to build main characters and their back story. From my perspective, it was important and i would not say the next episodes boring. They are watchable.
You shouldn't have asked this question in the first place.

If you enjoyed the movie-length first episode, but you aren't sure whether you will enjoy the series as a whole, you can just watch 2-3 next episodes and see if you enjoy the route this anime goes by. They are standard length episodes, so you will be able to see how this anime works in s regular, episodic format.

I think it depends on your priorities. It definitely never reaches the same emotional heights as the first episodes, and most of the major payoffs don’t really hit as hard as you would want them to. That being said it never really gets “bad” at worst it’s frustratingly boring at times because you know there’s a lot more the story could be doing. The mystery does get more interesting after the anime leaves off so season 2 will probably be pretty good, but it does mean sitting through an entire bland season 1 to watch a season 2 that might be good but doesn’t even exist yet.

Watch it if you’re really invested, but if you don’t particularly care then I’d say you’re safe dropping it.

The whole first episode was amazing, especially at night which gives the extra feels epsically at ‘that’ scene ๐Ÿฅฒ.

While the rest of the season does slow down a bit, it is still nice and actually helps further the characters motivations even more seeing now the 2 main characters are in a new world with lots to experience.

Trust me, you won’t regret it; it gives a really interesting insight to the world of idols and stars as a whole.

in 2 hours, you could well, maybe do something productive. creating the thread and saying thanks takes maybe 20 minutes of that time. some people don’t have that much free time, and don’t want to use it to watch something they wouldn’t like. these kinds of threads don’t hurt you; why discredit them?

All the relevant information is out there on YouTube, in episode update forums here, in lots of previous threads already present. While I wasn’t outwardly rude or abusive, I admit I let some sarcasm show, but it does annoy me having to wade through dozens of ‘should I watch’ threads to find any relevant discussions with people who actually watch anime.

First episode of Oshi no Ko is like a movie where things happens so much throughout the episode while 2nd episode and later are your usual seasonal episodes.
If you expect each episode would be like first one you would be disappointed.

So up to you in the end, my advice is just watch all the episodes and keep your expectation in check :)

The show fully commits to showing the dark side of the industry. Whoever said it doesn’t lied to you. It doesn’t really go into the murder mystery stuff till much later but it stays very good if that’s not the only reason you’re watching

For anyone saying "You started it, might as well watch it", there is so much anime out there to watch. Not everyone has the time to watch every single good show. The point of this thread was to see whether this anime is for me or not, and I thank people who gave genuinely helpful answers.

Pretty sure the first season is relatively about the dark side of the industry. Of course not as much focused on that element as, let’s say “The boys” which anyways focuses about that element. It still is the theme of the story.

Why watch the 1st episode if you’re unsure about watching the series? You knew what you were gonna get into. Either watch it, or don’t. You seem to know what you want as a person so idk what other ppl’s feedback will do.

I'm an anime only so I'm only going by what I've seen from the completed first season. And from what little snippets in the future I've seen from the manga, and what I've heard from manga readers.

The exploration of the darker seedy aspects of the entertainment industry doesn't lose focus. Its a consistent focal part of the story as shown from many different characters' experiences of it.

The revenge plot is the main selling point but it consistently exists in the background as the end game of Aqua and Ruby's stories and journeys. To give an example of what I mean.. its similar to Detective Conan. If you know this series.. the main selling point and central plot tying the series together is Shinichi trying to search for the Organization that gave him the drug which turned him into a child in order to revert back into a teenager.

But, similar to Aqua's plot for revenge... it remains the looming background overarcing plot whereas the majority of the series is Shinichi (in the body of a child) solving mysteries or the "crime of the week" that come his way. Majority of the crimes are self contained stories that have nothing to do with the Organization. But every now and then he runs into a crime that he solves and its revealed to have been connected to the Organization which gives him another clue to go off on in his never ending quest to search for the organization and get his old life back.

That's what Oshi no Ko feels like to me anyway. We'll eventually get to the end and resolve the revenge plot. But until then... the main focus is on the exploration of the entertainment industry and the characters deep in it.

I think the first season was good overall, but you’re right that it never really commits to the themes of the first episode. Imo, the first episode was a 9/10 but the rest of the season was still a solid 7.5-8/10 and very worthwhile; especially if it’s setting up a s2 that will be more like the first episode.

So this is the so epic - you - have to see it - Oshi no Ko? 4 episodes in and it isn't anything special at all. Just your average anime.

Gen z sure love their shiny trinkets, and that is what Oshi no Ko is really, nothing but a shiny trinket.

I would say yes. After watching the first episode I was planning to stop because I didn't think I'd like the direction the story was going to go, however, I was wrong. I ended up watching every episode as they released which isn't something I often do.

The revenge plot isn't very heavy during season 1 but that's a good thing imo. The first season builds up a lot of characters and while I say the revenge plot isn't heavy it's still very much there. Each episodes plot can be tied back to aquas plan progressing albeit slowly. I'd say atleast was a few episodes and base you opinion on your own thoughts about how the stories written.
