Hello everyone,

I discovered this anime totally randomly this season so I have absolutely 0 background regarding the show, I just know that it's based on a light novel and that there is a manga adaptation.

So far I've been enjoying the show quite much. There isn't anything special to mention about the anime regarding its quality but it feels largely good enough for this type of show, and the story is pretty good so far. However, I have noticed that the show is rated quite poorly compared to the manga and especially the light novel. I know LNs tend to be rated a lot higher but still the diff is quite huge.

So I was wondering what was the opinion of manga/LN readers about the anime ? Can the difference in reception be explained by the quality of the adaptation maybe, or does it get a lot better later ? Or maybe it's just been subjected to a much wider audience than the one of the manga/the LN ? Again I want to mention that I really don't hate the show, I'm just wondering !

I've only read the manga, but I plan on reading the LNs once the season wraps up.
Solid adaptation so far, I have no complaints. The art style is bang on with the manga which is nice to see.

I've read the first 2 LN volumes and I like the anime, but not more than the LN. The anime has followed the LN closely enough but at least to me they feel kinda different. The anime is trying to make it seem more like a comedy but when I read the LN, I felt that the overall tone was a bit more serious, even after including Rae's teasing. The action and animation have been a bit underwhelming, but I like the colorful art style and the voice acting. I don't find it a great adaption but I've enjoyed it. I'd give what I've read from the LN a 8-8.5 and the anime a 7.

1) the main Characters are unlikable, Rae is an annoying clingy simp who is actually as creepy as Rudy yet she gets no hate for it somehow

2) Claire is a generic tsundere, which is fine on its own but it's the only trait she has

3) the writing sucks, in particular the preaching parts are hilariously bad

4) " Incest is another form of forbidden love, like homosexuality "

@Saimatsu_Fan Comparing Rae to Rudy is crazy. He didn't get hate just for being annoying and creepy.
I'd also assume that anyone who dislikes the anime for any of those reasons, would also dislike the LN for the same reason. It doesn't answer what op asked.

the main reason why people hate Rudy is because he's an adult man in a teen body going after children

rae herself is ALSO a grown woman in a teen body going after a teen, while also doing creepy stuff like the school ghost episode when she staged everything up so she can sleep with her

@Saimatsu_Fan
Rudy has done things involving children that are straight up crimes before and after reincarnation.
Rae is an adult woman who has a crush on a fictional teenage character.
Both might be seen as creepy but they're not remotely comparable.

The anime is an admittedly middling adaptation but with a ton of passion that shines through despite the lack of polish. It’s not what I would have wanted but I can see people getting behind it despite its flaws and I still think it’s quite enjoyable

I'll keep wishing for a world where you can be happy.

My opinion is simple. It is a decent adaptation but unless they finish this story arc in anime form, it will be super painful. They could have do it in 12-13 episodes without much cuts. And with current tempo they need like 6-8 epidodes more. Not enough for a full season (going to the next arc will be sort of dumb).

I like the anime adaption wayy more than the light novel (Only read the first one though). The anime is much more charming to me, and the characters feel more believable (and a bit less creepy). Someone mentioned the anime being more light hearted, and I definitely think that's part of why I prefer it, but also why readers who liked the LNs might not like the anime.

@Saimatsu_Fan What do you expect Rae to do? Going after Claire is bad because she has the mind of an adult, but going after adults would be bad because she has the body of a teen. Even if she waited til her body grew up either the internal or external age-gap would always be present. She literally can't have an age-apropiate romance in her circumstances.

I read both manga and LN, I think the anime is good in adapting the story but unfortunately the quality is a less than I expected, it seems like they prefer to adapt manga version rather than LN (the original LN not newest ver./Revolution ver.)* where story is made lighter and Rae's character is more comedic. Overall, anime is good, but it seems like second season will be difficult to adapt in future because the story will be heavier and political elements will be stronger than before and of course the LGBT elements will be more prominent, so don't get your hopes up about second season.

and about why LN has a much higher rating than anime, I think that's very normal and can be accepted because story in the LN itself has been finished and plots and future stories will be more better than anime. Especially for the plot twist in last volume, I think it was very good and ended perfectly.

So if you really like anime, I highly recommend you to read LN or WN version.

*Contents of original LN are exactly the same as WN version, only in LN version Inori-sensei added several extra stories, while in Revolution version the story itself is same, it's just not taken from Rae's pov because the original version already has from Rae's side then this one is taken from a side other than Rae like pov from Claire and her friend.

** This the original version LN

As a long time fan of the LN, I don’t think it was bad. It was pretty decent actually; all except Rod’s hair (they did him so dirty 😭). I’d say my complaints about it really only lie with the pacing. It throws many things off. Many small but VERY Important details are left out that change the whole context of Rae and Claire’s motivations and relationship.
For example, Claire feels a lot more one dimensional in this adaptation than she is in the Ln, and her change from bully to caring for Rae felt rather quick. However, in the Ln there is a lot more time and exploring put into her character that makes her a lot more sympathetic and makes the change in her behavior more logical.
Next is Rae. I’m sort of upset that they left so much out that makes her seem so one note. I’m specifically referring to the Manaria arc, which was the most rushed of them all. Only getting three episodes, yet being almost a 4th of the 2nd LN (for reference the 2nd LN is almost twice the size of the first LN, which ends with Lene and her brother being banished). This arc was very important to Rae’s character growth, and the pacing of the anime just made her growth not make sense in a way and destroys some of her reasoning behind what she does. Specifically one scene where Rae challenges manaria to the scales. In the anime, before Rae challenges her, Manaria threatens that if Rae doesn’t do anything she will basically make Claire her’s and take her away from Rae, which prompts Rae to become angry and then challenge her. However in the LN this is **NOT** what makes her challenge Manaria, in fact I’m almost certain if Manaria had only said that in the Ln Rae still wouldn’t have changed her mind. It was because Manaria said “ she (Claire) reminds me a great deal of the person I loved. Seeing her innocent face twist into distress and lust would be delicious” that Rae became sick and worried about Claire which prompted her to fight for her hand. Those words being said makes Rae seem a lot less just “don’t take her” and a lot more “don’t you hurt her”. It completely changes the context from fight for her hand to protecting her from Manaria.
Other than that it wasn’t completely terrible, solid 7/10. I understand that they were only given so much time and so much approval of certain things. If you like the anime I highly recommend you read the Ln. you get a lot more out of it and the characters feel a lot more alive
