10 → Beautiful; Though none of these are perfect, they amaze and move me on a personal level, leaving a lasting impact long after I watched them 9 → Yes, just yes; These are very fulfilling, but lack the impact of a 10 for one reason or another, including my gut feeling 8 → A lot to like; These don't blow me away but are still very high-quality 7 → Nice; I find these enjoyable at a base level but nothing much more or less than that 6 → Good enough; There is not much to really write home about with these but I still like them regardless 5 → Not bad, but...; I like the ideas these bring forward and recognize their potential, but the execution is lacking in some key areas 4 → Meh; There are some aspects to these that I enjoy, but they get more wrong than they do right 3 → Ugh; It is difficult to enjoy these, though they are not that close to the bottom of the barrel either 2 → Yuck; I cringe at these, and it's hard to find any positives with them 1 → Why did I even bother?; I wholeheartedly regret watching these
- Giving a 1 or 2 is pretty unlikely. It takes a lot to call something that bad.
- To me, generic does not automatically mean bad. Tropes can still be enjoyable if done in a creative or enjoyable way
My Anime Timeline ⌚
Mid-to-late-2000s → I had my first exposures to anime as a kid through Toonami (Naruto, DBZ) and Kids WB (Yu-Gi-Oh, Sonic X, Pokémon)
↓
Mid-2010s → When I got to high school, I joined my high school's anime club and my taste expanded. I distinctly remember getting into SAO, Cowboy Bebop, Akame Ga Kill, and Samurai Champloo at around this time. I also had my ecchi phase at this time cause I was a horny high school boy
↓
2020 → I got back into anime during the pandemic after not watching much in college. Completing a full watch of Naruto and discovering AoT for the first time were the big milestones at the time.
↓
2021 → I joined MAL and started to look at anime more critically (but still being sure to not take it too serious).
↓
Spring 2022 → This was the first seasonal window that I followed closely (13 shows completed)
↓
Today → I mainly seek out romance, SoL, and comedy, but it doesn't take too much for something of another genre to interest me and I usually follow up with recommendations from close friends
