For me the problem with such "sequels" is that they are:

  • very lazy in conception and originality
  • their existence is completely pointless, meaningless and cannot be justified in any way whatsoever other than making money, but from a viewer's/consumer's perspective, there is no justification of their existence
  • they try to ride on the fame of the original in hopes to be relevant
  • relies heavily on cameos of the original cast, because all relevancy will be lost
  • the plot is no different
  • the whole idea of such "sequels" feels fan service for the most hardcore, diehard fans, who had wasted an unhealthy massive amount of their lives obsessing over imaginary characters or even caring who these imaginary characters "love" or who they "should be loving instead"

In my opinion, it will be better if such sequels are actually an alternative timeline, where they start the original story from scratch and then branches into an "expanded universe", kind of like the one in Star Wars, which was discarded in favor of a woke joke that killed the franchise and made everyone hate Star Wars.

In that notion, I always imagined an alternative Naruto where different events took place and different issues were tackled. For one, the massive Ninja World was left all but unexplored in both animes. All we see is a few countries, out of which even less have unique architecture and we see a tiny glimpse of their story and that's it. Maybe I'm affected from One Piece by thinking like this, because I didn't care about it while watching Naruto before I knew One Piece existed, but I loved the expose One Piece does on each island the Straw Hats visit - usually it takes a few episodes, you get to meet the inhabitants, you learn the history, see the architecture, there is a little plot involved there and they move on. And there are probably hundreds of such different islands explored, such a thing would have been so good for Naruto's universe - it has so much potential - it can literally be a 500-800 episode anime and they still wouldn't have explored all of the Ninja World.

I may have talked a lot about Naruto and One Piece in a forum about Shaman King, but the same can be said about Shaman King's universe - an alternative timeline where Hao didn't become evil or something entirely different happen and reuse the same cast of characters, add even more new ones along the way and just explore an alternative timeline, which I think will provide more enjoyment for the viewers than some stupid, disappointing sequel that just solidifies things and sends the silent message "If you don't like this, then move on, because your favorite franchise is over."

The final volume of the Shaman King manga was awesome and the final chapters serve as a proper ending for the franchise but also as an introduction of a new story, two stories to be precise: hana and co.'s story(Flowers) and the reader's story. Both looking for "the answer". So the story will continue no matter if it's a manga series, no matter if there's a possible reader. The story, that is also our story, will continue anyway. For my part I'm curious what the characters are doing, what will happen and who will they meet as new.
I'm happy that Shaman King Flowers is getting animated so the Shaman King franchise can gain some attention and recognition, but I'm disappointed the way the anime was handled. Let's hope that at least flowers will get a decent adaptation.
For what you said I agree about the lack of originality that seems present in the story, characters and characters designs, but it could be only apparent in some aspects. For what I read Hana is a good character, Men is interesting, the only one that seemed a clone was Anna the third, but I know nothing about her, and considering that she's the doughter of Silva is cool. The flower of maize seem a big thing that suddendly appeared, as the only thing I knew was the next Shaman Fight in 2500 lol. The lack of originality is present also in the paneling, some pages I saw had the same panel structure and seemed copied. Also the volume covers aren't original, but the ones of SuperStar are cool. When a new volume cover appears I'm hyped.
So, yes, Flowers lack originality in some aspects, but I'm somewhat interested because Shaman King was one of the best stories I have ever read.

Your wish could come true. Takei wants to reboot the franchise and perfectionate it.

@PigioGigi0 I appreciate your input, as you appear to hold Shaman King in a very high regard, definitely much higher than I do, make no mistake, I watched the original Shaman King series around 2003 when I was a kid and it is very nostalgic for me and I like it very much, as well as the original Yu-Gi-Oh! which I saw around the same time and while I recognize both stories as a bit weak, I still have a an appreciation for them and am thankful for them existing and me having experienced them. My praise for them would far outweigh my criticism of them.

You are right about the continuation of the story with Yoh's child being shown, I forgot about this, when I wrote the first post, I had completely forgotten about this and it's a mistake on my part. But my point still stands that such continuations are very strange and hard to justify for me personally. Even if they show the protagonists 10 years into the future for example, that's absolutely fine, but I still believe this is where it needs to end, that, I point out again, is my personal view on such a scenario.

This is very interesting that it's actually happening. Shaman King is definitely a franchise that is underappreciated and should have gotten way more attention, yet somehow got overshadowed by the far inferior, again, in my opinion, Sword Art Online, Shingeki no Kyojin, and to an extent Boku no Hero Academia, I still like, enjoy and watch BnHA, but it feels like the more of the plot is revealed and the more the story is drawing to its conclusion, the less exciting it feels. Shaman King on the other hand remained consistent, maybe until the very end where the original anime departs from the manga.

I'm curious to see what this Shaman King Reboot is going to be, definitely interesting news, thank you for sharing.

dude you really have free time to make 2 threads on the same anime huh

i won't read all that but as an shaman king fan myself , i really liked the classic and even it's original ending(even though an expected ending power of others blah blah blah he's defeated regardless) and i liked the new series, now i didn't read the manga much,i only had one volume as an gift i wanted to get to it but was never in the mood
BUT the remake did feel .... rushed hella lot , like it was okay but i feel like it could have been much more and in my eyes it didnt surpass the original
i have readed shaman king flowers instead since it was an short read and i quite liked it , it ended weird but overall it was an good read so im looking foward to this one.

Anyone who compares SK with Boruto just haven't read the manga. It's completely different case. Also, SK Flowers came out much earlier than Boruto, so this comparison is really stupid.

Please, don't compare Flowers to Boruto. That are two differents titles. Flowers feels like natural continuation, with interesting, but maybe slow, plot. In Boruto, we got forced plot, that make no sence, and don't fit in previous world build by Kishimoto. Also, in Flowers, only 3 characters, are actualy a kids of oryginal cast (Hana, Men and Alumi). Rest, are new characters. Oryginal cast from Shaman King, was not nerfed, and are still strong, compare to Boruto, where, especially Naruto, was made weak.

It's ok,

Flowers and Boruto may have similar aspects (kids of super parents, reusing some powers or techniques)

But at least Flowers have some different settings and continuation of previous season.

In a way, you could just call this a "Time Skip" and the previous season's event never really ended. (where Hao and Yoh was talking to each other) And you could probably watch the original Shaman King and then directly this one and wouldn't notice anything, LOL.

@Shaddy Well, none of this stops people from listing Flowers as the "second season" of Shamans or even charitably calling it a short spin-off while ignoring the follow-up SK Superstar. I wonder if people reacted to Horsemen of the Apocalypse in the same way?

This post is so pointless none of what you wrote is actually about the actual series you're trying to bash.

And btw, Hana existed years before Boruto was even a figment of an idea in Kishimoto's mind.

Flowers is decent in comparation to the hot garbage Boruto is. At least Flowers didn't ruin the old gen cast.
