Don't get me wrong- they're beautifully animated, they have masterful sound design, and the cinematography is great, but sometimes the movement of the fights is hard to follow. In the Sukuna vs Mahoraga fight there was a number of times where I had difficulty figuring out how either Sukuna or Mahoraga got flung or moved to where they were located at that point in the fight. As a contrasting example, the fight of Tanjiro vs Daki and Gyutaro, it's really easy to follow the movement of the battle- all the animations are very fluid and the way they move makes sense, and no one is suddenly in another location with little-to-no explanation of how they got there. But sometimes during a fight in JJK they instead decide to have like a flash or blur of color and suddenly a character has moved like halfway across the city with no idea how they got there. I hope in future episodes they try to make the movement in the battles a bit easier to follow than the most recent one. Anyone else or am I alone in this? (Also I hope they quadruple the pay of the animators and give them a fucking month vacation for the work they've been doing, but unfortunately that probably won't happen)

I agree for this season, I don't remember it being this way in S1, though I haven't seen S1 since it aired so I could be wrong.

definitely not alone...I found myself thinking the same thing while I was watching the last episode... not hating on it or anything cause I love this show and arc but the frames move so fast during the fight scenes it makes it hard to follow.... for me at least

Don't worry , you'll have even Harder time in season 3 and then you'll say the same thing about season 2 being easy to follow season 3.

And for fck sake don't even compare ds fights with JJKs because ds fights are shit compare to JJKs.

I 100% agree with you I mean I read the manga and even I hd trouble keeping up with the jogo fight and Mahoraga fight.

@Nizamjarjin Personally I think both series have amazing fights with their own different style of animation, but I slightly prefer DS fights over (most) JJK fights just because of them being harder to follow. Choso vs Yuji is probably the best of this season imo and beats most DS fights.

I agree, I usually get confused with fights in manga and wait for the anime to understand better. however this does not apply in this second season

I'll agree with you there, I didnt fully grasp some fights in season 1 when I first watched it so I went back and rewatched it again for better fight understanding.
Season 2 has been a mix.

completely agree, this season I've been having a hard time gauging positioning. Even in the earlier part of the season with Toji I was being a little taken out of it since I couldn't tell where anyone was in relation to each other or where they were going from where.

Surprisingly Jogo vs Sukuna wasn't hard for me to follow (since some others seemed to have a hard time with it) and I don't think they're all super difficult, but overall it's been noticeable in a lot of them

the fights are also difficult to follow in the manga, but the problem with the anime is that it uses a loooot of effects (probably a bit too much) and the characters often just turn into speed blobs instead of having solid figures which also makes it hard to follow

I feel the same I can’t follow half the fights this season people seem to just spawn all over the place without any regards to physics or sense. Specially this last ep18 was super messy, S1 has much much better choreography on average I feel like

That's the cost of mind blowing sakuga.
They are just going above and beyond and it kinda backfires. It is very annoying, that narrator literally has to come in and explain it to the audience what is happening, because we are apparently stupid. Demon Slayer did not had this problem at all.
I guess MAPPA animators would agree too. For obvious reasons.

Another issue is, that similarly to infamous pod racing scene from Phantom Menace, for entirety of (some) of those fights plot is on a complete standstill, which affects the pacing.

More like it's pointless to follow most of the fights lol. Just useless fightings and all the boring and sometimes obvious explanations for all attacks and all the inner monologues and conversations feel pointless most of the time.

I enjoyed the starting eps till 8 ig.. From then onwards after gojo is sealed it's been super boring (atleast till ep 14, didn't watch the next eps yet).

And seriously except gojo, I feel like I won't care that much if any of the character die in this series anymore, they became so boring and plain. (Also I might care for gojo death if it happens coz hos death will have very big changes to the world, that's it.)

This is borderline shaping up to be demon slayer lol.

That's valid. I was kind of thinking the same thing when I first watched it. But then again, I thought about cutting the animators some slack because it was only 30% completed. But I still get it, but if the working conditions for the animators we're better then I think it would be a lot more polished. I think this applies to the manga as well. It's already hard sometimes because it's in black and white but JJK has a messier art style than most other animanga so it can be harder to follow sometimes.

And sadly we won't be seeing Gojo for the next 2 seasons. This was only one or one of very few characters that attracted an audience.

When I watched Sukuna vs. Makora I didn't understand it at all. While people were commending the hardworking animators, I shrugged and went about my business. The EP 13 fight was also difficult for me to understand in some cuts. Apart from these, Toji vs. Dagon, Toji vs. Fushiguro and Sukuna vs. Jogo were great! My favourite so far has been the EP 3 Toji vs. Gojo.

stfu for saying ds fights are worse than jjk fights. I like both anime, and JJK is easily my favorite anime of all time. But you really need to check your eyes if you think ds fights are inferior to jjk, especially the animation.

@MrBoomTop10Anime I less meant the format in which the battle is set up and more the actual physical movement of the characters during the battle.

Not a hot take tbh. I can see where you are coming from. That's in general problem with fluid sakuga fights, that they tend to be vague and hence can make the audience lose track of what's happening. Furthermore, the tight production schedule forcing animators to cut important transition segments during fights (eg. Yuji vs Mahito in ep 18) is like adding salt to the wound.

To be fair, that's how it is in the manga, and it's typically just to explain how a technique works. Funny enough, they actually excluded some narration that was supposed to be present after a technique Mahito used in the last episode lol.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

its the bad compositing by this guy https://myanimelist.net/people/51884/Teppei_Itou the sakuga community are often complaining about that guys compositing works since it often way darker than it should be especially on already darker scenes plus ye the censoring of blurring and ghosting are not helping either but im not sure the blu ray discs will fix it but at least no dimming and ghosting on the blu rays

Some cuts are skipped and hard to follow
My best example is when Yuji just instantly teleported to the elevator and he just instantly teleported outside of the elevator.
Also Vincen't part where Sukuna was supposed to dodge mahoraga's attacks. But in the anime, they ripped that scene and skipped that sequence instead
And I am still confused how did Mahoraga get in the airplane in thunderclap 2

There were some scenes in episode 17 that just weren't finished so they weren't in the episode. I'm guessing the random skip to Yuji staring into the camera is there so that the episode is as long as it needs to because they couldn't fit everything they wanted into the episode. It's also a very hectic fight with ghosting here and there.

I totally agree, they work really hard on it and the animation is amazing! But sometimes I just need to rewatch the scene bcs I didn’t get where it suddenly came from or it was just going too fast. But it is only in this season, in the previous seasons it wasn’t like that.

Part of it -for me at least- in the most recent episodes has to do with the pacing of the story itself, when the scale is fluctuating all over the place it's hard to be as invested in things like Mahito vs Yuji just throwing hands for half an episode

I don't think that having highly explosive sakuga to the point a narrator is somewhat needed is inherently bad. Fights like Chosou vs Yuji and Megumi & Yuji vs the old man are examples where the show had some narration/internal monologuing without compromising decent (if not too crazy) sakuga. Scenes like the Mahoraga fight are less to do with the sakuga itself and more about the different shots not flowing together properly imo
