i knew i was right skiping this and playing the games last here,
only came to watch this due to season 2 being annouced, anyhow they fucking butchered everything in the games, even changed the plot completely.

Despite the generic RPG "the end is nigh" ending trope played here, it's done in a way that's feasible to watch thanks to Shaft

Yachiyo can use Doppel power now coz why not. Lingering questions on the existence of Little Kyubey and how the Doppel power really worked better be explained in S2. As for Magia Record S1 I'm really disappointed by how generic it turned out since the main story is so stellar.

This final episode was a cut above everything else this first season, in visuals, it has yet to reach close to the original, but I loved the sound, it made such a difference when Sayaka showed up and then we got Mami vs Sayaka, starting with that sweet epic track, that was WILD, easily the best scene in this S1, and the ending song that started to play just before the credits... fuck yeah.

We may not have Kalafina back, but lyrics wise the series is in good hands if it can get quality lyrics songs of at least this level.

TBH I won't fake and say that I understood 100% of what this season was going (like what part of the original timeline is fitting on this one), after all, I watched it sparsely and had to binge the last few episodes to finally proceed beyond, but amid all those at best just decent episodes that pale to the average quality of the original, at least they ended it really well.
Also, I m starting to ship Iroha x Yachiyo a bit, I don't mind my yuri with Madoka Magika, not at all, surely it would be impossible, but I would like to see Madoka and Homura on S2, that would instantly bump the score to be truthful, I m a very simple guy, just give me more Homura please (since the wait for Movie 4 is going to be awhile longer).

Hmm. This was kinda disappointing. I don't know... Like it wasn't exactly bad. The animation was nice as expected from Shaft, the characters were fine. The development was subtle enough but still there. Maybe the introduction of the "old" characters was a bit forced and in my opinion unnecessary. The new enemies were definitely cool though.

I still feel like they didn't quite manage to pull off the same as they did with the previous series. The witch transformation was weird. I understand it's coming from a game and it actually makes sense as a game mechanic. It definitely felt off for the story telling though.

I was also quite surprised when we were going towards the end and not a single person died so far. It's not really necessary for a series to be good but it added a lot of drama to the original series. Like in the original you actually feared for the characters lifes and started to despise Kyuubey when the mysteries started to resolve. This time the enemy is other girls and under this pretense of "saving everyone" from the fate of magical girls.

A lot of generic stuff mixed into this good franchise just to turn it into a game (which then got adopted into anime). It feels like just a little bit is missing to make this an actually very good show. But the game aspects are holding it back somewhat.

Well. The cliffhanger at the end kind of forces me to watch the sequel. Kind of unexpected that all of the main characters joined that group. And the way things turned up I guess they are introducing Madoka as well later on. I'm curious which direction they take for her in the writing.

The animation for this episode left me so confused, entirely I remembered it aired in 2020. Alright, I guess I can give them a pass.

As for the overall show, I have mixed feelings. I don't play the game but have seen quite a good amount of let's play so I didn't go into this story completely blind, and while not that much of a fan of Magia Record's story (game or anime) compared to Madoka Magica I still like it. But the main issue is that trying to adapt a gacha game into a short anime was bound to turn out the way it did, that is, rushed. There are way too many characters, way too many plot points.

But another issue I had, was the way the thing about witches and soul gems was handled compared to the original show. I mean, I totally get that Magia Record wants itself to be different from Madoka Magica, but it still feels weird to see the girls care so little about aspects of this world that used to matter so much, especially considering that the truth about magical girls is the whole reason why the Magius even exists. Here, I just don't feel the stakes and this despite the Magius existing, it's weird.

But it wasn't a bad show, the art direction was still very good most of the time, Iroha's and Yachiyo's story was quite interesting, I liked most of the characters (although, unless I forgot something, is it me or did Sana completely disappear for no reason after her arc ?). I was also glad to see Sayaka, Kyoko and Mami, even if it felt more like fanservice than anything else.

Overall I liked the show, but objectively it had a lot of flaws and they did impact my experience, so I give it a 6/10. I hope the next seasons, while even shorter, did a better job.

This started good but got convoluted but then picked up back again, especially in the final few EPs.
The whole Magius stuff is easy to understand atleast and the Doppel system is a cool way to showcase Witch powers so props for that. Also I have a theory that Ui is Madoka, entering herself into Tamaki's memories but let's see. 6.5/10 for this season. Hopefully the next is better.
