The excuse I get regarding this is that for shows to be listed on MAL, they have to be targeted towards Asian audiences. Suicide Squad is not targeted towards Asian audiences.

It's made by Japanese Studio therefore it is an anime.

Rick and Morty made by American studio therefore it is not an anime.

"targeted towards" has never been the requirement, they need to be animated and produced entirely in Japan, Korea or China. That's the excuse for why for example Legend of Korra (Studio Mir, Studio Pierrot) isn't allowed on here despite being animated exclusively in South Korea and Japan. So this must be produced stateside and only animated in Japan I guess.

PS, I'm pretty sure Rick and Morty WAS on here at some point so it must have gotten deleted?

It's one of the requirements tho. (https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=515957)

We all know this Anime will be more watched by Americans , but it doesn't change the fact that this Anime is produced by a Japanese studio , and set to be broadcasted first in Japan.
Therefore , it meets the guidelines.

Suicide Squad Isekai also targeted Japan. (also the entire world) It is produced by Warner Bros Japan.

Literally whole staff is Japanese.

The writer is Japanese, the director is Japanese, the animators are Japanese, the composer is Japanese, and it is produced in Japan by Warner Bros Japan.

It is 100% anime.

But original series is not and it is not targeted towards Japan market.

Original series is not an anime, therefore there is no point to add specials.

Yeah , so ?

About the Rick & Morty Samurai Special , it was done by Studio Deen , but for Adult Swim. (American Market)
It's considered as out-sourcing , which is not too rare.

With that logic the RWBY anime by Shaft wouldn't have been added to the MAL database.

It's just a site for anime. Outsourced animation doesn't count most of the time because they're PRODUCED stateside and that's what disqualifies them. If simply outsourcing period was banned then RIP 90% of Netflix anime.

If you look at the Anime DB - Recent Entry Merges/Splits/Removals/Denials thread , you'll see things like :
Sweet Sea (52837): an Amercian production with outsourced animation. Created specifically for NA market. Haven't aired in Japan.

Rick and Morty - Samurai & Shogun (54371), Rick and Morty vs. Genocider (54372), Rick and Morty - Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil) (54373), Rick and Morty - The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabara (54374), Ballmastrz: Rubicon (54370): American production with outsourced animation, produced for an Americal audience.

The producers of those 2 entries are Japanese tho.

That is not really true, joint productions between Japan and other countries like France are also considered anime and they are allowed on MAL. And Korra was entirely animated in Korea.

If by "entirely in Korea" you mean "entirely in Korea except for season 2 which was animated by Studio Pierrot who are Japanese" unless you suddenly just don't think Bleach and Naruto are anime anymore. Also you do understand that Chinese and Korean anime are also allowed on MAL right? The reason Korra isn't allowed here is because it was produced in the US, it was simply animated in Korea/Japan. Really no different than how Madhouse animated the old Scooby-Doo movies, but they were produced in the US so they're not anime.

I'm not sure why you're having a hard time following this 🤔

I know you are stupid but there is no such thing as "  Chinese and Korean anime " there is only Chinese and Korean animation, anime is exclusively Japanese. So, Korra's second season was animated by Japanese, big deal, it doesn't make the rest of my post wrong, unlike yours.
Last but not least, second season of Korra was animated by both Mir (Korean studio) and Pierrot, so it was not animated only by Pierrot like you said.

Alright we are done. If you're going to act like that then you can just have a conversation with yourself 🤷‍♂️

I believe I read somewhere that Hellsing Ultimate was made largely because of how popular the manga and the first anime were here in America.

Don't quote me on that, though, I think my source was TV Tropes.

To be considered anime it needs to be produced in Japan and all production casting needs to be Japanese, I don't believe this ''anime'' is Japanese because Suicide Squad is very American history and Warner is an American company

The animations in MAL are only made if these 3 countries are created by Korean, Japanese or Chinese, Legend of Korra wasn't because it is an American product
I don't know what is the obsession of American companies wanting all American animation to be an anime or using Japanese workers for this ''anime'' instead of learning this style, I will say some Chinese studios who developed the anime style and applied it to Chinese products

Chinese studios : B.CMAY PICTURES, Chongzhuo Animation, Colored Pencil Animation, LAN Studio, Haoliners Animation League, PB Animation Co. LTD and more, all these company is from China producing Chinese content with Chinese workers and anime style

American companies using Japanese workers to create ''animes'' with American screenwriters(all american casting like Super Crooks), little by little anime as we know it to be Japanese, would become more of an American product of Hollywood and recycled product of a story that has already been told dozens of times as the MC of this ''anime''

It’s because the Rick and Morty anime specials are made to be a promo of the main Rick and Morty show, therefore it does not qualify to be listed on My Anime List. Subside Squad Isekai is made to be its own take on what happens to be an American comic book, there are marvel anime that are listed on this site too.

Somebody else posted the rules, but here they are again
