Whoa, big development this episode that could have an effect on the whole world.

I also want to say that among the group, Akira is a pretty decent fighter. That was pretty crazy fighting off those beasts. Touko also deserves some credit imo for making that timely save. Just another reminder that their journey and world is incredibly dangerous.

Ah, so Kanata was the dog of Hinako and Koushi's family a ways back, that's interesting. We also learned about what spiders do, and it's something quite important, but some people don't get affected by the venom. Akira was a good addition to Touko's group, and she can protect them well, but Touko is also capable of fighting, and what a clutch save that was.

Looks like we may see the Capital next episode.

Akira is a cool character, seeing her chihuahua like hound fight a wolf made of black fire is kinda funny NGL even though i am aware that the hounds in this world are dogs with superpowers, Akira talked about the Millenium Comet and the Flickering Flame like they were the same thing

gotta say the anime looks good when there isnt any action scenes, the arstyle and sountrack carry

Just for having a chihuahua as partner Akira is already incredible.

Was fantastic to see other dogs.

You know you have a meme problem when you see a borzoi and you think " Let me do it for you".

Touko got her first kill.

So in the end the people of the train where really just being as**oles to Touko, and Kanata was the name of the dog.

Man, this was another excellent episode, the story really seemed to take off and cover some ground for this episode.

I love the dogs and the creatures in general. That little savage chihuahua, the borzoi, the forest creatures and the whale-like thing.

The opening music is still one of my favorites this season.

The animation style combined with the ponderous pace of the storytelling is what really gets me going with this show. It feels at once very classical and futuristic, very graceful and savage. The shift in animation styles is gorgeous. It's a feast for the eyes. It's almost like reading an ancient scroll or a dream.

Good stuff, I like where the story is going and it's all compelling.

I thought Kanata being koushi's dad's dog was pretty obvious from the start

Interested in the OP I posted original and one with subs for anyone interested in the words.

Touko just went and cut that fiend, without any preamble, true hero.

I'm glad they are still on their way to capital, and Akira seems nice.

Ok maybe the action animation is kinda ass lmao but idk I still love the simple art style and the story we’ve got has been very intriguing. Pacing been very good as well.

Been looking forward to red haired waifu joining the cast for a while now and she didn’t disappoint.

Both koushi and Touko now have fire hunter mentors and are on their own journeys of growth.

Feel bad for dude who lost his eye, that had to be awful.

That’s a big info drop with the spiders having the ability to prevent human combustion. Potential game changer.

I love this so much, every single episode so far is similar in structure (with the segments shifted here and there) but it never gets boring for me.

Now, the actual action did collapse pretty badly especially towards the end segment and Touko killing it seems like total bullshit but let em cook.

Holy shit

Two thumbs up for Akira the lady fire hunter.  And for a show that has little to no comic relief, every time that chihuahua was on screen, it made me smile. What a ridiculous cutie. I’m trying so hard to take it seriously, but it looks like such a feisty goofball.  Kyaaaa~~~

Color palatte and design really reminds me of the other anime Mononoke. Not sold on the animation or story just yet, still lots of mystery but the world building is intriguing for sure.

Akira's little hunting dog is adorable! We must definitely protecc the fluffy, long haired, white little chihuahua at all costs! It might be small, but as we can see, it's super fierce!!

That other girl that the Dr. saved is god damned useless. I would have ditched her. Complaining and wanting her morals (save the kid whose tribe burned all the other folks) to end up costing others ... Sorry I just hate characters like that, the ones whose mouths write checks their body has no ability to cash, they always get others injured / killed. Just wrong.

Touko for the save! She has potential to be a fire hunter herself. Akira is a cool new character, provides security, and may be a mentor for Touko. There was some info dump regarding the spider people using bugs to prevent burning up in the presence of regular fire (my guess is that it neutralizes a virus or something that causes these people to combust).

This episode went by pretty fast as it kept me captivated and it looks like next episode they make it to the capital.

This is a story that is slowly woven together with very good art and an interesting story. Every new chapter there are some frames that are really beautiful and bright. The range of colors and the use of fixed frames give a new tone to the production. I hope it can continue to leave a good taste in our mouths in the coming weeks.

Oh shit. It's the "let me do it for you" dog!
And a freaking chihuahua as companion? Man, this show is so based.

Pretty nice episode. Two new Fire Hunters were introduced and I'm already loving their designs.
Also, Akira is so cool. Hope she stays with the group for a while.

The op and ed really fits the vibe to this anime.

As for the episode it was good too. Koushi is networking with fire hunters but the best part this time was the development for Touka's perspective. There were hints she will become a fire hunter as well. Killing an agitated fallbeast with 0 training is nothing short of talent, it appeared natural to her.

Anyways i hope the train guy makes it. I kept replaying the scene but i can't see how he got clawed? In every replay, Kanata clearly intercepted the beast in the nic of time (well he obviously didn't). Onto next episode!

With their transport truck botched, Shouzou leads both Touko and Kaho out of danger, until they met conflict with treefolk and the roaming fire hunter Akira and her dog Temari to assist them getting to the Capital, which going on their own, is basically tantamount to suicide. Encountering a child within the most unlikely of circumstances, it raises doubt.

Back to Koushi, his dream of Hinako holding the liquid fire, it scares the hell outta him, for someone that feels out of place within the Okibis. Meeting an uninvited guest Roroku with his dog Mizore who knows all about fallbeasts and skyfire, this is an opportunity for Koushi to learn all he can.

The lost, unconscious child Kun, turns out to be a spider's child, and witnessing a scene of utter devastation where people are burnt to crisp, and upon discovering that fiends can use fire thanks to spiders, it's a fight for survival where fiends ambush the group, with Shouzou sustaining damage from the attacks, but only barely survived. Even with the family heirloom of the sickle (which is a late "gift" from her deceased brother), Kun's escape and purpose shocked them of the revelation of the bugs.

The story slowly building, though how intricate it is, IMO it still hasn't trickled out much yet.

Another episode with interesting, compelling world building going on, but it's once again all ruined by some of the worst animation and general direction I've ever seen in an anime: I straight up can't tell what's actually going on in a lot of scenes half the time, not just what characters are doing but even basics like where they actually are in the scene. It makes the show incredibly hard to watch at best when literally any sort of movement is happening.

Despite much of this show really interesting me, I don't think I can keep watching it anymore when the animation is so bad and the storyboarding and general direction are just outright incoherent at best. It's actually making me uncomfortable to watch something with just terrible production values.

They did mention earlier that even tho they're fiends filled with rage and etc, the slice of that weapon immediately put them down without any resist (?) episode 4, 10:27

Please, for God's sake, why does almost every thrashy anime got a decent budget and this doesn't? It's so sad because everything else is top notch. If any recent show deserves good animation then this is it...

I agree, it was pretty obvious but now it's a fact.

I mean, the animation, especially in the last fight was atrocious. Felt like 5 fps. However, the presentation/direction is fantastic. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about here. Sure, it doesn't hand-hold like the usual shounen anime for example, which repeats everything that happens 10 times in a row so everyone with 3 brain cells will get it. However, I would argue that's a good thing. Me personally this style keeps me engaged. It's definitely not incoherent at all.

Okay, so this episode has a bit of a problem for me. What's with all the jumping around, the cutting and the weird animation? I feel like the animation just keeps getting weirder with each episode now, and the jumping around makes it feel even more off.

Also you can't tell me Touko took out that bear on her own bro. That was stupid

Oh shit that Koushi dream scare me out too, thought it was real for a second lmao

But anyway Kira unite him with a fallbeast hunter which may lead him into Touko, i guess. So that's where he start his own journey, eh? Like a father...

Meanwhile, back to Touko side, she unexpectedly met with the woman fire hunter from the opening, and some cute poodle as her hunt hound dang. Those lead them into another merciless journey to the capital which also leading into another unexpected meet with the spider child whose being abandon because why not.

In short, after a tough battle amongst the rampaging flame fiends, they manage to reach the bay and set to sail. But its not mean everything goes smooth to reach the finished line. At least Touko finally able to use the fire hunter sickle, even manage to handle one bear. So its not so long for her ready to set an unprecedented journey finding the flickering flame...
