Nope, it's disappointing.

the second half feels like filler with many unimportant characters around.

Instead of focusing to Riko's group trying to get into deeper layers like previous seasons, it's about some not so important villagers and their "supposedly sad and tragic" pasts and a female beast who acts like an angry cat most of the times.

Like seriously, a whole season and not even a sign of 7th layer.

Too bad, I loved previous Made in Abyss, it has lost its magic with these stretched story, felt like I was watching Naruto fillers.

Yesss I’m glad they slowed down and didn’t get all the way to the 7th layer I want as many seasons as we can get so the slower the better.

The plot did take it’s time building up but sheeesh that ending was amazing and the epic scenes at the end were well worth the wait

Lastly kevin nailed it as usual and delivered another 10/10 soundtrack so I think quality wise it was on par with the third movie

It was even more to be honest, didn't expect a side story to touch my feelings so hard. Maybe even more than Nanachi's backstory. However the season end felt quite odd, I mean it was okay, but I actually thought it will lead to "the end". Nonetheless I'm waiting for what's coming next

swears bro... the beginning episodes was all I liked when they showed those people and their journey to and inside the abyss
but the rest part was a let down to me
I watched most of it in 2x speed

L opinion. I'm glad s2 takes time to expand the world rather than going really fast by descending each layers episode by episode. We got more information about the past and the people that lived there once. Focusing merely on Riko's group is bad writing cuz there are many factors that affected their adventure

Ok, I see your point... but no. It's called dialogue, and all great stories have it. It gave a backstory for the founding of the abyss, as well as affects of the abyss on the village. I'd say that it is important, because it gave insight to a whole new plane of area that was unknown before hand. I bet you the story and dialogue that was portrayed in this season will come back later in the series and be vital to it. SAO did much the same with the Alicization: Underworld season, in which it had tied back to GGO arc. You may feel disappointed, but I assure you it it highly important to the story. A few kids venturing through a highly dangerous world of its own, and they get past all marked data involving it. They found something new, new and unknown struggles, new and unknown way of life. It was also important in that Reg had been given more insight to who he used to be before his memory loss. Plus, there is a new character on their journey, as well as the white whistle had been "enhanced" per say. I wouldn't say nothing came out of it, it gave a lot of good information and changes for the characters later on.

And if you don't believe me about the importance and relevance of this season, just wait for future seasons. This information will come back and be of high importance. It always does.

It expanded the world building and made way for what’s to come. Also, Faputa might be a significant character in the future

Not as good as first season, but still pretty good.

I wish more was done with Wazukyan, he could have been a great villain. Also Faputa vs Belaf was pretty bad. It's still a great season overall but it didn't quite live up to its potential.

I agree I wanted to see them go deeper not stay on the same level for 12-13 eps but it was kinda neat

I thought it was great. It really gave more depth to the already established characters and introduced interesting new characters Vueko and Faputa. IMO it’s the best season of MIA so far.

I was disappointed by it, not because it spent so much time in the sixth layer, but because it was such a small part of said layer, and didn’t have much of the usual exploration. I felt like S2 was missing that sense of adventure because we didn’t see much outside of a small area of the sixth layer. On top of that, I just wasn’t personally a huge fan of the new characters, besides maybe Vueroeruko (did I spell that right?).
I still enjoyed this season, but I can’t deny that it didn’t give what I was hoping for, which is constant adventure through new places like we saw in S1.

I have some mixed feelings about it. Even though some people mentioned that it expanded on the lore, I kinda felt like it was a big filler season, considering the season finale. I haven't read the manga, so I had higher expectations. Rating this season alone, it was cool, besides how they handled Nanachi imo.

I was more or less disappointed.
It lost the charm it had in the first season and the movie because of its mysterious, eerie atmosphere. Some say it expands on the lore and stuff like that, but idk, I kept yawning and scratching my ass while I was watching it, it didn't intrigue me in the slightest. At least we got a glimpse of Reg's backstory which is like one of the biggest mysteries of the series, so I approve. But overall I wasn't okay with the season.

I thought it was really good but compared to the first season and the movie it is not as good. But it’s hard for me to say it wasn’t as enjoyable as the first but it’s not like Tokyo ghoul 2/3 season it’s still good.

not at all. I loved season one but during the long wait in between and especially after the underwhelming movie I started to wonder if MiA might not be all it's cracked up to be. I mean honestly season 1 didn't really start getting good until the last few eps when the traumatic shit started happening. Is that all it really has going for it?

My favorites list is full of traumatic anime but they all have more to them than that. Like, Clannad and Little Busters have tons of humor and loveable characters. can't say I feel especially attached to any of MIA's characters except for Nanachi and thats because her/it's character design is so appealing.

But yeah anyway S2 was pretty boring and plus the weirdness became pretty alienating. Lost interest about halfway and never picked it back up again.

Yes. It was amazing. I don't feel like going into details tho so I'm just going to obliterate this character limit and move on.

from manga readers saying shit I expected this to be the weakest arc, but imo it was the best one.

I'm still fully processing this season because I just finished it, but it definitely was more shocking than I expected it to be. I didn't like everything about it but overall I would say it is better than I expected because my expectations were pretty low...and honestly love when shows explore darker themes so I'm glad they kept that up.

I definitely enjoyed that it took a different turn than the first season and kept elements of the world-building but explored themes they did not touch in season 1. It was definitely a fascinating story that this arc had to tell and felt less like a commentary on humanity and more like storytelling through dialogue, characters, and relationships which I personally appreciated. Although, in my opinion, I do feel that some parts of the story felt forced (for example, mitty being reintroduced for me was a part I understood the purpose it served but I don't necessarily like the execution of the idea) or not developed enough. I also appreciated how there was an element of mystery and the way the story was told by telling the main characters' stories and interweaving them with the life and stories of another group of adventurers.

***CONTAINS SPOILERS***

Agree.

One of the things I loved most about the first season was the exploration aspect of it. Every few episodes we were rewarded with lush new words, a bunch of weird and wonderful (and sometimes dangerous) creatures, and the mystery of Riko's mother slowly unravelling as they find more clues the deeper they venture.

Another thing I loved about the first season was the chemistry between the characters:

  • Riko was the driving force, with unshakable determination, bravery and wit.
  • Reg was the muscle, ready to give his life to protect the group.
  • Nanachi was the loyal one, would move heaven and earth for the group, with no sacrifice too great.

This season they replaced the main story (including the mother mystery) with a weird village story that dragged for so long I had to drop it for a few weeks. Thy also killed the whole character dynamic by having all characters go their separate ways, giving each their own crappy mini-story.

The biggest let down was that there was no adventuring. The whole season was based on one level. If I knew this at the beginning of the season I wouldn't have bothered watching it.

I loved it. More than anything, Made in Abyss keeps up a standard of being very immersive. The beautiful way in which it presents itself; music, character design, sound design, voice acting, landscapes all serves to make me forget myself and just be absorbed into the emotion in the world of the Abyss. I was quite surprised at how gripped I was considering my slight disappointment with the previous movie, and despite leaning in on more heavily tragic side-characters not unlike what they did with Prushka, this season simply managed to convince me to let my cynical side go. Key-word: convincing. Manipulative? Yes! But I never felt forced to feel, I was cleverly convinced. Classic human shit ikr

What a lovely ride it was :)

No Mr. I got the point and I know why it was necessary.
It's just that I didn't quite enjoy it like S1 mainly due to loads of backstories and flashbacks for many side characters. That is why it became kinda dull imo and the glasses girl became even more annoying than before.

Season 1 had more of the adventure aspect (multiple layers) whilst Season 2 had more of the horror aspect (single layer but horrifying). I didn't have any "hopes" or such so not sure how to answer other than this.

Yup, the whole anime (S1 + Dawn of the Deep Soul + S2) was filler all along and that was the whole point of it all. Took you long enough.
