I finished this episode thinking it's the best. On second thought, it's not.
Sending an electric shock through a mechanical heart jut fries the hardware required to charge the battery. Not the battery, not any other part. Fine, I'll believe that. That's not even where most of my problems with this episode lie.
I like that Takina's reaction to this whole situation is "Imma eliminate that nurse". Not capture, or interrogate, or anything of the sort. But hey, we established back in episode 1 that Takina is an unreasonable, trigger-happy person so I guess that's in character.
Hey, look! Some reckless drivers bother our main protagonist. She's understandably not in the mood to deal with them, so she does the completely reasonable thing of SHOOTING AT THEM and possible cause them to crash and die. Think about it. If that did happen Chisato would've fulfilled her mission of becoming a killer and maybe she would've had an arguement to have them repair her heart. How unlucky for our pacifist protag that she didn't murder innocent civilians. And don't worry, the DA will completely cover this incident and erase those people's memories. I have to assume they're capable of doing that at this point.
Tsukinoki calls Chisato out for letting Majima escape. Holy shit, someone finally adresses that? Chisato's answer is..."It wasn't part of my job". Dear god where do I begin? First of all: Bullshit. Takina clearly states in episode 6 that they need Kurumi's help to "Catch him". So they are absolutely trying to stop him. Second of all: I don't care if it's not part of your job. The guy murdered people, and directly targeted you, meaning he could come back and put you and everyone you care about in the cafe in danger. Do you feel no need to retaliate? Do you feel safe? Do you actually have 0 sympathy for the people that die at his hands? This is the second time I have to ask this question and at this point, Chisato to me is a character who feels wrong taking people's lives by her own hands, but she's absolutely chill when it's someone else killing someone innocent. There's a line between being a chill person and having complete apathy and I they absolutely crossed that line. Of course Tsukinoki doesn't call her out on this. Girl raises my hope only to disappoint me in less than 10 seconds.
Wth is up with Chisato's eyes in this scene anyway?
So I guess the DA works for the alan institue, because Tsukinoki took the camera away to prevent Shinji's face from leaking, and he wants Chisato to "play her part". Which is awkward because that same institue is assissting the terrorists that are being a pain in the DA's butts for however many months now. What was the alan institue's goal again?
Chisato forgot the face of her savior. And he's a regular at the cafe so he must've known that she forgot his face to feel safe to show her his face. The thing about them being able to erase memories was a joke but now I fully believe it.
Also the flashback confirms that Chisato's ability has nothing to do with her heart. She was just born supernatural. RIP to all the cyborg Chisato theories.
"She's our daughter, isn't she?" Says the guy who orders her heart to be shut down because she didn't grow up to be what he wanted her to be. I mean, I know Asian parents have high expectations of their children but fucking hell. (It's Joke. Chill.).
You know, now would be a really good time to ask the obvious question: Why does Shinji think that Chisato's talent is killing? The only thing he sees is that she can dodge bullets. And he concludes that it is impossible to kill her with guns (Any gunman who is out of her sight would beg to differ. But I digress). And while that's useful for a soldier, it doesn't equal that she has to kill. She seems to have found a good way of fulfilling missions while using her abiity, so why does it bother you that she doesn't kill? Why does she have to? Takina said in episode 4 that she could be non-lethal while being in DA. So there really is no problem whatsoever. But nooooo, I'm Shinji and people dying is my kink. And if this child soldier doesn't do that then fuck it. Im just gonna fund terrorism instead. There's no way that'll backfire, right?
Takina concludes that if we capture Majima we can learn about Chisato's heart. Which is a fucking reach. All we know is that they're supporting Majima's group. And if they're good at covering their tracks then you'll probably hit a dead end. But I guess they're desperate and it's better than nothing. After all, Kurumi, aka.Walnut, ms. best hacker in the world says he can't be tracked. So I guess no one else should be able to. Right?
What follows is the part of the episode that raises it above being horrible. I Like everything about Chisato and Takina's time together. But does Takina going back to DA means that Chisato will also help them with Majima? The episode made it look like this is where they part ways, but they should be participating in the same op soon unless Chisato ends up not helping. She did only promise to "think about it". So she could just say no and she wouldn't be breaking the deal.
Majima stands in the middle of the road. I guess no other cars would be taking that road, so he just knows that he'll be blocking Shinji's car and no other. But man, when you see Majima in the middle of the road, it should be the moment where you press down harder on that gas peddle while singing "GAS! GAS! GAS!" in your head. But no. We have to keep Majima alive for longer.
Which, at this point, I'm completely on Majima's side rn. Guy's an unredeemable terrorist. But fuck me he's going against an immoral, incompetent organization that is completely above the law and is backed by a nonsensical institue that keeps life-saving technology out of the public's hand for no sensible reason. They're not even fucking monitizing this shit. And if he can bring that whole system down and end this whole charade. Also, suck it Kurumi. Robota is the best hacker now.
On a side note. Does anyone remember when the show had a normal police detective investigated one of the incidents? Does the show remember? Does anyone care?
