How much shit can Gugu take? - The Arc.

Another 3/5 episode. The transitions between SoL/comedy and Gugu having the worst days of his young life felt quite jarring. Not to mention I also don't know what to think about the fact of how lightly the "Gugu experimentation" revelation was taken.

Its now episode 8 and its good.. and in this episode, fushi learns the importance of a friend.. if a friend is just so close, then one may also call them a brother or sister, depending on the person.. since even if blood bounds one with the other, it always depends on the persons in relation, if they are worthy of such a strong bond as being a true family.. even tho for me, i have hated my parents for the way they isolate me from the others except in school, i can say that i have better parents than others.. even a better family than others as well.. since they love me that much, that they dont mind my hate, and still love me unconditionally.. well, like i say, life always depends.. anyways, i rate the episode a 4 of 5, 4 for story and 4.5 for art.. :)

The fact that Gugu's belly looks that way because it is an organic Sake distillery was actually sort of WTF amusing and horrifying in equal measures. The reaction of the farmer and his family didn't surprise me really and was sadly realistic. The ending of the episode did make me smile. I hope the show becomes a bit more uplifting. While I really like it, it is kind of a downer most of the time.

Rean seems too eager to come and work alongside Fushi and even with there. She must be running away from something.

At first I thought it was Kuchikamizake like in Your Name. So Booze Man "constructed" (?) an organ in Gugu while he repaired his face (that's why his belly is big). Good for Booze Man's business.

Fushi is starting to become more comfortable living with the booze man, but he needs Gugu to help him learn how to clean, cook, and work. It was a bold move for Gugu to ditch the mask, but that causes more problems because the people won't even speak to him.

But it's an important step for his developement to accept himself for whom he is and show it to people around him.

I can't understand the double standard.

Everybody is like "poor Gugu, bad people experimented on him, bullied him and hurt him"
but he did the same to Fushi and nobody cares.

Accordnign to this forum he is a kind, wholsome, caring, sweet boy whose first hought is to stab and burn his new friend

If I was happy when March died for character development reasons I'll be happy when Gugu will die because he is an asshole

Amazing episode. Develops Gugu really well. The villagers treating him like a monster is realistic imo. The Booze Man making Gugu a liquor storage out of curiosity was odd. But we do see him getting angry and leaving the Booze Man and also Rean pointing out to how cruel what he did was shows she is good and caring person.
Giving that ring to his brother hoping that he becomes a good person was the highlight of this episode for me.

You can say he experimented on Fushi but wasn't that just giving a small cut and playing with fire?
Kids do try to place hand close to a fire just to see how much they could take. Knowing that your wounds heal , won't one go even further beyond.

i love gugu and im glad he escaped that place, the scene with his brother was impactful as well, the 'i dont have a brother' T-T
i think gugu will find a new brother in fushi, or sibling i guess since fushi doesn't really have a gender

Mortal people die? What a surprise?

@RebelPandaSFan
the concept is Fushi is able to take the form of people whose death impact him.
The story is more or less gonna play with theme.
Take One Piece for example, new Island, new enemies, but the context of the event happening in each Island are different and playing with different themes and making the characters slowly grow that slowy progresses the bigger story line.
Simple structure but does it make the big story line that is slowly unfolding predictable? NO.
Does Knowing Fushi's power means his Friends always dies right in front of him? That concept itself is flexible to play expectations and can sometimes be used as bluff.
Saitama has the power to finish off his enemies in one punch, but does he always do that, in his case he tries not to and sometimes he does, he can do it immediately or he can wait for a moment before he delivers the punch. He does always beat enemies but effects in the overall story is different bevause the stakes are different.
It does not mean that if a story follows a formula, the story overall is prefictable. Its naive to simply put them predictable.

Finish To your Eternity S1 then tell me if you can say that did you predict how things went down?

So it's not just things that hurt him, if Fushi tries hard enough he can replicate other things that "stimulated" him including food.

When Gugu was starving, I thought that he actually needed alcohol in the special organ Boozeman gave him to survive.

Fushi in the form of March being thrown so Rean and Gugu could run away was kind of funny.

Literally all the Gugu moments made me wash my face with my tears...Gugu doesn't deserve these treatments, everyone are so shit. That master seemed surprisingly nice.

Wtf is wrong with everyone in this anime. Everyone aside from Gugu, Fushi and that farmer, is a piece of shit. I haven’t been this angry over an anime in a long time. Also I hated how the creator basically made Gugu being experimented on a comedic scene. It was anything but funny, it genuinely made me angry at the series as a whole.
I dont think it was meant to be comedic, he experimented on fushi so the author made him experience the same thing

have these people... never seen a disabled/disfigured person before??

i understand children having dramatic reactions but i dont think most adults would react like that. i know some horrible people exist but mostly gugu would probably experience more microaggressions, not such outward hate. it must be to do with the world, this series is set in.

the ending was nice :)

My heart shattered watching this episode. Really good episode. Gugu's character is very mature, and through his experience so much is conveyed. This author knows what they're doing.

Rejection and acceptance are two things Gugu has to deal with to overcome his reality and survive. Being needed and having someone to associate with or relate to will hopefully be his new reasons to live. He's on his way of becoming my favorite character in this show. 10/10 episode.

Fushi trying to do chores was amusing to watch.

Gugu taking off his mask wasn't a good idea. It's not surprising that people were freaked out by his face.

At least Gugu seemed somewhat more accepting of his current self at the end. Hooray for monsters!

Fuck the grandpa, I had a hunch but he really did use Gugu as an experiment, wtf. And they didn't even want him back as a person, they only cared about the fact that he wasn't around to cook, work or clean. It's sad as hell. I am glad Fushi saved him though. Their sibling bond might be a source of happiness for him.

I am glad he ditched the mask, but seeing everyone mock him or be terrified because of his face was so upsetting. People are so cruel. A lot of strength is needed in order to keep going and be yourself when everyone around you acts like you're a monster.

The scene where Gugu gave Shin his ring to offer him a happier life broke my heart. He is such a good, selfless kid, he gives everything for those around him even if they don't deserve it. They call him a monster, but he is the most human of them all.

The Booze Man saved Gugu's life, but as the crazy guy he is, he transplanted an alcohol distiller organ within Gugu's stomach, now that's just A grade twisted joke right there, but then again, despite how sickening that is, the Booze man means no harm, after all, Gugu did find a family with him, Pioran and now, Fushi.

Bless Gugu's soul, how does one suffer greatly through humiliation, rejection and harassment all alone as he starves and lives out in the shroud of cold darkness? Gugu is strong, his mental integrity is indomitable, despite him cursing his horrible fate deep down, forcing him to put on a facade of happiness much like he put on a mask to cover his face. He eventually learns to accept who he is and confidently walked the streets without his mask. For his age, Gugu is incredibly mature, even when he's in the deepest depth of hopelessness, he still selflessly sacrifice the precious ring given to him by Rean instead of keeping it or pawning it for some money. It's no surprise that Fushi cannot grow without Gugu. While the rest of the islanders mocks him and run away before his presence, Gugu kept his head held up high, living life the way he can. Such a touching story, the world doesn't deserve a man like Gugu.

I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing Gugu and Fushi talk bother to brother, they both are after all monsters, rejects from normal societies. Only by doing so can they reconcile with one another and learn to develop themselves even further than they have.

Nice to see more of Fushi learning stuff with this episode being about taking the initiative and that sometimes you just have to do stuff despite being afraid.

My exact thoughts with it's shift between SOL and Psychological aspects, not to say I'm not enjoying the SOL episodes and they bring some good laughs and moments but it just feels like it brings the show down from it's highs of EP. 1 & 5. I feel the SOL aspect could be more condensed while still maintaining it's impact on the Psychological side.

Really loving the music for this show though.

Gugu is so naive. It annoys me. Okay, he hoped his brother would get rich and come back. Then he saw him poor and hungry... And he gave the ring anyway. He should have managed this money better.

The old man and grandmother are strange. Let's pour alcohol into a living person! Our assistant has disappeared and we will not look for him! Wonderful.

When Gugu took off his mask, it really makes sense. The mask draws attention to itself... a scary face draws attention to itself. What difference does it make if no one loves you anyway?

And yes, everything that happens makes Fushi be an adult. I think he may end up all alone. And no one will help him.

It will be a pity if Gugu dies. However, I think it might be a girl...

Coming into this episode, I wonder what fate Gugu will confront. Gugu will probably die and become one of Fushi's shapeshifting options but I hope he gets to talk to Rean sometime.

This booze man is a weirdo. He added an alcohol organ to Gugu's body without his permission. Oof.

NGL if I had my face destroyed I would take it way worse than Gugu is. Props to him.

Why does he have to become human quickly? He is immortal...He has more than enough time to learn everything.

Gugu doing pushups reminds me of the memes of people doing half pushups during gym class lol.
