Three episodes into this new show and I suddenly feel like I've completely given up on this subgenre.

Okay, okay, let me explain myself. Please remember that anything I say in this post is my personal opinion. First allow me to express that I hated last season's Shikkakumon no Saikyou Kenja, and I think it has made me hyper-aware of new 'isekai trash' shows. In fact, most of what I say in this post might be over-exaggerated as I'm typing in the heat of the moment.

Now let me address the title of this post. You might say this show isn't really an isekai, it's a reincarnation. But when the MC reincarnates into the future, it is basically a completely new world. So it's essentially an isekai in my eyes. Let's just hope that this actually impacts the story in some interesting way rather than just being an excuse for the protagonist to become a self-insert for viewers.

And you might also say this isn't an power-fantasy isekai. "The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody." Ah yes that sounds like a fun and interesting story, but instead just a few minutes into the first episode it becomes painfully clear that's not where the "story" is going. Quotes around "story" because I believe that most of what the anime will show us is just going to be a wide display of random powers the demon lord has that absolutely no one gives a damn about. What the hell people! Please don't tell me we're going down the route of all generic power-fantasy isekai shows (it's not my personal preference as of right now)!!

And surely... SURELY.... this won't be a harem... right? We've seen far too many power-fantasy isekai harems lately and, while they were relatively fun at first, they slowly but surely transitioned into shows that mostly have a below-average viewer rating. Perhaps power-fantasy isekai harems have been around the same quality ever since their inception, but we should still stop trying to force harems into our stories when all they do is destroy any chances for meaningful relationships between characters! I mean, god, look at Arifureta season 2. They literally drive around the magic school bus of harem... but I digress.

I've addressed all of the keywords for this forum post. But now I must ask you all once again. Are power-fantasy isekai harems getting old? Or is it just me and I'm finally growing out of my "isekai trash" phase? Please do tell your opinions on this matter.

Note: This post is not hate bait or promoting hate for this show. I just want to see what everyone thinks about recent power-fantasy isekai harems like this one.

I'm sure many people don't like this genre but it's the Japanese people who control the market, and unless they all agree to move on from this genre, they won't stop making more show like this. Just like the magic and sword high school trope back in the early 2010, they make a dozens of show with that trope and now it's the Isekai trope, I think somewhere around 2025 we will start with a new trope after the Isekai

They're intentionally trashy and they don't pretend to be otherwise.
I fancy myself some trash occasionally.

If you aren't into something, then don't watch it ffs. Not a hard concept. There are tons of genres that I don't watch because they aren't my thing. Last thing I'm going to do is watch them just so I can bitch. There is far too much of that going on. Fact is, it's a popular trend because people like it.

Hey man chill. Sorry I harshed on your favorite show, I was just giving my opinion. In fact, since you clearly want to know, I'm dropping this show on its third episode. I'm not necessarily shitting on it rather I'm just explaining how the tropes negatively affect it and how I came to dislike it. Just like you I don't understand how people can get through a whole anime and then give it a crazy low rating with an angry and salty review.

Maybe? I mean, if you've reached the point where you no longer enjoy something, it's as simple as stopping watching it. I still enjoy them but I have to say I'm glad to have a magical harem school here and there in between so many isekai.

well that's true i was thinking the same , I have seen many people average ratings are below 5 ( In fact some of my friends too xd) . how can they watch whole series' if they don't like it and give ratings from 1-5 ?? Just drop it lol. There are also some users who rate some animes 1-4 and still watch it's second seasons .If you don't like it then why are you wasting your time in watching another episode or even it's second season !! why ?? Irony isn't it. ....¯\_( ͠° ͟ʖ °͠ )_/¯

1) Are power-fantasy Isekai harems getting old?

My answer is no. Why? Because people likes it and Japanese love it. Just like Ultraman, kamen rider, super sentai would never get old, some show are aim at specific demographic and most of the isekai aim for teenager. So cute girls harem pretty much a core, and the story cannot be too complex thus why most of the Isekai are cookie cutter.

2) Are you growing out of the "isekai trash" phase?

Maybe, but I think no. U just watched a trashy Isekai and probably watched a lot of trashy isekai lately and I know that feeling. You're getting tired of all the trashy isekai having the same plotline and being predictable. I love Isekai and would watch all the Isekai of the season, and drop most of them if not all. Good Isekai are super rare nowadays.

3) Why Japanese/some people love isekai so much?

Escapism. Especially in a high stress society, some people hate their own life and wish to have a 2nd chance. Power, the feeling of 'littleness' and weak by not having confidence in their self or the courage and determination to make a change, but also wish to have the power to triumph everything. Harem, the lack of attention from surrounding family or friend and the craving for love and romance. And also they're quite fun to watch.

Just because something is below average, doesn’t mean that it won’t suffice as a time killer, or in some cases, background noise.
Hell, if everything had to be above average to be worth wasting time with, most of the modern studios in this “FTP, tappa tappa” game world would have ceased to exist years ago.

I am fine with the harem but I am not okay that he is not a "typical nobody" or "murabito a" like the title claims. It would of been a more interesting if he had actually been a normal guy with no powers or very small powers. The only thing I didn't like with the girls was the sudden personality shift from when they were first introduced to when they started sucking the MC's dick. Way too jarring.

For your information
The Anime industry only earning through the Blu-ray DVD selling and Manga and light noval selling it mostly sell on Japan so they don't care about your opinion and either of US they only care about Japanese people if any anime gets low rating it doesn't mean it's also getting lowratting on Japan that's why so many shit shows getting anime adaptation

Basically our argument are pointless because Japanese people don't care about other peoples
Because basically they earn money selling out there Manga and anime Blu-Ray DVDs and they are mostly selling on Japan

If Japanese people like shit anime or shit manga/light novel they will make more and more copy of it

Just like Kingdom series Japanese people love them but beside Japan The Kingdom series that didn't get that much attention

So if you say this city manga got adaptation that's mean Japanese people like it

They only care about Japanese audience

I like basic story and overpowered main characters. It just makes me happy, so I sure hope they don’t stop making them. It eases my soul to have an uncomplicated story to embrace when I’m tired of my over-complicated life.

I do feel like it's getting old, they are so many of them and they are almost indistinguisable from one another. Now I think JP won't stop making this stuff anytime soon as there are still a lot japanese who likes it. Maybe if they didn't make it for JP audience maybe the the content could've been different but this is my assumption I don't know if that is the case but they made it for the JP so if your taste is not the same then you probably won't like it

this anime is terrible example of Isekai usually the subgenre itself is very good but there are always exception. for example take any subgenre you like let's say school i can tell 100 animes in that genre that is terrible so just because some animes aren't that good doesn't mean the genre itself is bad. well that's my way of thinking

I dont think so. The isekai genre just keep branching it sub. Now we even have otome game isekai world, skeleton as MC. They genre just gonna keep expanding riding what popular series are up to nowadays.

No, because the Japanese control the market, and they love such escapist stuff about as much as they loved it back in 2016, 2017, 2013...

Ofc it would be cool if said isekais were more unique, like Escaflowne, Youjo Senki, 12 Kingdoms, Rayearth, Maou no Hajimekata etc, etc. But in most cases we get generic imitations of Dragon Quest number 987134554, complete with loldemonlord, lolyuusha, lolvideogamescreensandlevels.

You can thank that site Narou for that; most Light Novels (romcom or high fantasy, and specially the isekai harem ones) of today started as WEB Novels on that place, TL;DR, they were (before official publication) fundamentally just Original Fanfiction published by free on the net, with no editorial check-ins, by basically any late teen/young adult amateur with some random idea. Wattpad stuff, pretty much. In concept and in quality.

Needle and haystack situation:

In ten Isekai/reincarnation series one will be good. I hope this year Japan was a bit more selective when deciding which ones to adapt.

So far, for me in 2022 "Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki Part 2" (half of it was good).
