I just finished the film and I thought it was good for a short film. I was just curious if there's an idea or something that I missed about Ayane's mom. Am I just going to assume that they reported the body to the police and Ayane decided to leave the brooch to her mom before fading away?

I guess that's what the director intended to show with the brooch scene. The runtime of the movie was pretty short so they probably had to cut out as much as possible.

i think the brooch might have been tomoya and friends, and i think that not reporting the body was a good thing to do, i would have a mental breakdown if i got to know that someone close to me was burried in a travelling bag for idk how many months

i know that it is traumatising but at th same time the main purpose was to find her body and make her mom know her death right

was it really tho? Or was it because she needed to find her body to get some kind of salvation

Who said she is not? But how can you or the police found someone when the body is not present, and you have no way to find out the identity of the car/driver?

From my Point of view, the kids put the brooche on front of the house and, hopefully , reported the body to the police so Ayame's mother could buried her properly. I don't think Ayame herself could touch the brooche. She couldn't even touch the luggage as she was a ghost without a physical body. We have seen her grasping a firework, though. But I think the firework presented more of the symbolics then some sort of connection to the "other worlds".

This is the movie, it has been concluded nicely. I wish they showed more about what happened with the mother and how she did stuff and that for the dead offspring of hers though.

Well, I believe kids just buried the corpse and left the brooch at her mom's.

I'll just imagine to myself that the it was actually Ayane's ghost that delivered brooch to her mother and not the kids and she did this to NOT LET HER MOTHER KNOW about her death.
My thinking is that she tried to fool her mother into thinking that she is actually alive and well somewhere.
This is an acceptable ending.
And what about her body? The kids just buried it again, because it was Ayane that wanted to know where her body was. After the discovered it didn't mattered.

And guys... I was scared for a moment.
I was wondering why the kids had rushed to unbury Ayane's body because it's a trick situation. How do you explain how you knew the body was there? Pretty hard to explain to the police and victim's family, right? So when the scene changed to her mother I was horrified. "No way they went there to give her the news!". When she opened the door and no one was there, then looked down, I was thinking that they had just put the suitcase with her body there, imagine that!

I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING... would've been bizarre for sure.

I personally interpreted the scene as Ayane just wanting to leave something behind for her mother, as it didn't seem like she was able to interact with her in any way before that. It's a known belief that ghosts, when passing away, will come to say goodbye to their loved ones one last time. So it was probably that.

All in all, a masterfully directed movie for its runtime. Definitely made every moment count <3

Well my thought is they don't even need to report the body themselves.
The main problem was, the bag was buried in a junkyard (maybe junkyard) so nobody found out. If they just left it nearby someone will eventually notice and call the cops.

The brooch was with Ayane when she died, they gave it to her mother so that she(her mother) could remember Ayane by. Because police after finding her body, identifying it would've taken a long time or they won't be able to identify it in the first place, atleast not without DNA test. And believe me they don't go through all the process everytime when they find a body.
So Ayane's mother wouldn't have gotten the brooch if that happened..

The 2nd explanation is that, it was Ayane's personal request to send the brooch to her mother. Maybe both?!
