I think the flashback stuff was oddly placed, both in episode 2 and this episode. This episodes content was covered in season 4 episode 1 (episode 87) of the original OVAs. I think its weird to flashback to the nobles so soon after having the end of last season being the defeat of them, personally. I liked the new OP a lot though. Now looking forward to the rest of the season, now that they got this odd flashback out of the way.

i loved the college feminist hair of the torturer. really brings out the life in this character that we'll only see in one episode
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

New official opening visuals for the OP, looks fantastic, especially that black hole scene at the start. Same with the ending. The CG has massively improved as well.

We got a few new OSTs as well, which sound good.

There are some scenes that have outstanding artwork. Truly what the series needed.

Best episode so far.

Seeing the similarities between Mittermeyer and Reunthal friendship and Reinhard and Kircheis's always pinches my heart after Kircheis's death. Kircheis's talent and knowledge might be replaceable, but not his friendship with Reinhard. I want to see how he changes in the absence of his biggest supporter and partner.

Any scene that features the nobles is both disgusting and horrifying, I'm glad the alliance of nobility is no more a thing. It makes me wonder what Reinhard has in mind, how does he intend to change/improve the Empire? And where does war come into this?

Some stills felt a little off, but not a big deal.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

Believe or not in the original OVA they were twice as disgusting.

What makes them less disgusting here? Is the material covered different?

The new visuals for op & ed were better than the last one, especially the ed.
Gald to see how the twin pillars came to ally themselves with Reinhard. And that because of this incident, it helped give Reinhard the opportunity to show his skills in battle.
Mittermeyer and Reinhard were quite badass in this episode.

The ending forshadows the great battle between Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen Li. I know ths because I watched the OVA version of the series.

Does the ending forshadows the battle of Vermilion. Do you think so?

Perhaps, just got to wait and see

Oh, the actual visuals for the OP and ED look amazing! I'm really liking the songs a lot too.

I'm glad we got the whole backstory in one go in this version. Too bad we didn't get a little more backstory for Reuenthal (also: something I forgot to mention last episode, Reuenthal's father looks a lot more like Oskar's OVA design which is far better than the remake imo... I wish he'd at least would get the haircut lol).

The new visuals for the OP and ED look great compared to the previous ones. I noticed that the episode count was changed from 3 to 12 so I'm guessing were getting more episodes.

There's a whole different feel to it. The character designs are also way uglier than in this one were almost everyone has that bishounen look to them. Even the ugly ones.

this ep was much better than the previous one, it also makes the fight against Flegel an the other nobles look more personal, not just for Reinhard, i wonder if it would ve been better if they showed it before the fall of the Goldenbaun dinasty

ahhhhh Lennenkampf, they changed his characters look way too much, gonna miss his old Joseph Stalin look

also Eisenach doesnt look as manly as he did in the old OVA, whats with that haircut?

This always has been one of my favorite parts in the old OVA. Liked the friendship between Mittermeyer and Reuenthal. Especially Reuenthal is getting a lot more development ( a lot) later.

Personally I prefer Yang over Reinhard but as for the other chars/Admirals the empire still has a lot of interesting ones. Müller is another nice one.

Unfortunately I do not have time (= not in the mood) to read the novels anymore. Read the volumes 1+2 along watching the previous seasons of Neue These - and the anime was pretty close to. (Afaik the old OVA was a bit more different?) Only super minor details where scenes got moved a bit (but still shown) - and actually a little bit more stuff added sometimes.

Or things modernized. I think I remember reports sometimes came in written on paper - cause the novel is pretty old when even smartphones and stuff was not existing in our real world and back then writers imagined the futurein a different way.

Always love the "Kinpatsu no Kozou" (blonde brat) moments lol - when the nobels get angry at Reinhard. :D And a clever move from Ansbach here.

Is there any reason they put that dubious opening and ending in the first two episodes and just now put the official one?

They probably didn't have enough time to make an OP/ED at first since they're releasing it as a movie, so I guess they only recently made it. Maybe it took longer than expected thanks to all the CG? I think once they re-air the first 2 episodes on TV, they'll use the new OP/ED in place of the sliced scenes and they'll update the first 2 episodes on whatever streaming services have the show on it.

I agree with OP this flashback was oddly placed, either way I really enjoy it. Didnt think so when the first season aired. Only the character design is an issue they wont be able to fix, but nothing deal breaking.

The empire always had the far more interesting plot, so getting entire episodes without the alliance side is always nice.

Mittermeyer and Reuenthal are seriously the most devoted soldiers which is extremely rare in the empire. Mittermeyer, in particular, astonished me during the torture scene; he was a total savage.

Neat backstory, establishes their character and relationship well. Watching Siegfried made me emotional though, would have been so great if he was beside Reinhard now that he stands supreme in the empire. Mittermyer and Reunthal better protect Reinhard with all they have, specially now that Siegfried is no longer with them.
