This was actually kinda dark for its storytelling but I overall, like the narrative style from the first episode.

For one thing, Richard is carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders by himself. Trying to overcome a curse and taking a role of king is no easy task. The episode had an emotional tone as well and didn't leave room for any silliness. Pretty interesting episode imo.

Mangaka Aya Kanno's work of this being a dark fantasy Shoujo version of William Shakespeare's Richard the III, this is easily yet another anticipated show running for 2 cours.

The War of the Roses between the Houses of Lancaster and York, the red and white roses in an attempt to usurp the throne of being the best House.

The intersex 3rd son of Duke of York, King Richard Plantagenet, Richard Plantagenet the III, being a cursed demon child, someone who's an outcast because of circumstances. His father, King Richard, lost to the Lancastrians, and his mother being skeptical of a demon child to later then abandon him.

The forest imagery of Richard meeting the shepherd Henry the VI (of Lancaster) making a sundial in the woods, that was the first instance where Richard can find acceptance, that was a solemn feeling. The kickback that the House of York usurped the throne, as long as Henry is alive, all is not well just yet for complete salvation.

Shall I say that this was quite the premiere episode? Despite the fast pacing, this is very intriguing from a dark fantasy, much less targeted towards the Shoujo demographic? A VERY stellar start.

I more or less came into this expecting a bishounen version of Game of Thrones. It kinda has proven to be true. Okayish start. Was too fast paced to care about politics and the world. I hope this was only the case for the set up, but I'm not optimistic. The primary focus was on the misery of a intersex character and low-key fujo bait. Wholesomeness with Henry and some rapey vibes with Edward, there's something for every taste.

Will keep watching for the bit of potential this has. May as well try the manga if the anime doesn't deliver.

An interesting start. Maybe a little bit fast-paced, but the atmosphere and character of Richard were enough to keep me invested. I'm pretty interested to see how they'll handle the historical aspects of this anime, too. So far it's not entirely accurate (Henry VI and Richard III had an age gap of about 30 years IRL, yet seem to be the same age here) but that doesn't detract from my enjoyment.

Great start, quite an emotional episode too

Clearly there is a lot of cross between the plays Henry VI and Richard III, I'm excited to see what the creator has done with the plot, since there seems to be characters present which seem out of place (like Joanne)

It felt pretty fast-paced but this got off to a pretty decent start. I think this is the first time, at least that I can recall off the dome, that I'm seeing an anime with an intersex MC, so that should be interesting to see. I legit have no idea what to expect from this so I'm looking forward to the ride.

Ok I am loving this dark story and the OST is just *chef's kiss*. I'm very intrigued to witness the development of Richard's and Henry's relationship, and hopefully friendship - God knows Richard could use a genuine friend.

Did anyone else notice Edward wearing mittens when he came to Richard's rescue though? How was the man able to weild a sword with those on?!

Intriguing premiere. The exposition was good enough to get a general idea of the politics and setting.

Very curious in how the MC will be portrayed given his circumstances, they really drove home his misery as ‘demon’ child born in medieval times.

I’m not really sure what to expect going forward but I’m very interested, if they can develop the story politically and personally, it could become something really good. Cautiously optimistic for this.

Outstanding soundtrack though, the sequences with the ‘curse’ visions were especially fantastic.

Okay, this was certainly an interesting premiere. A lot of points that came to mind have already been shared above, such as the fast pacing, dark storytelling and the intersex main character. Story-wise, I can definitely see the Shakespeare influence and I'm curious to see how it'll progress from here onwards.

I see potential in this so here's to hoping they'll be delivered.

I haven't read the manga so I may not understand this anime well but anyways though first sight gives me a black butler vibe to it. The aftermath of the whole father execution and narration is interesting. Richards flashback about his mother abandonment is kind of traumatic I'd say but not necessarily brutal and overall it's a good episode.

Great episode! Quite a dark theme and I really like it! Richard convinced his father, King Richard to fight against the Lancastrians once more to obtain the crown but he ended up failing unfortunately. Richard is called a demon child for being born intersex which I felt bad for him about. He meets a man called Henry in the forest who wants to be his friend but he has a hallucination of him being someone else.

Looking forward to the next episode!

It definitely left me wanting more so than satisfied. First episodes are sometimes fast-paced, but this was too fast. New things were happening left and right, scenes were moving to next after only a short, awkward amount of dialogue and character moments felt superficial.

Because of this, I decided to check the manga to see what was going on. It looks like it adapted material from the first 4 chapters, skipping and shuffling entire scenes. I hope that the coming episodes won't skip these, or that it's going to be a similarly weirdly paced series for the entire duration. The story and characters seem interesting.

Not sure how to feel about this one from the get go, like I wouldn't call it bad, but it was more interesting how fast paced in a sense it went. Giving us no real time to truly appreciate the characters, unless you count our MC so far. It's an interesting way of doing things that is for sure, but the tone of it all, is what really sells it, and will leave that interest factor, to come back to, when it comes to this show.

Going to watch for art and aesthetics alone. The soundtrack is also great so far, both in terms of the ost and ending. But the animation team really did the art director/whoever the fuck who made these backgrounds dirty. I really don't understand how a show this phenomenal looking would use cgi for literal stills at some points - insanely ugly cgi at that. It's good the animation is near non-existent as so far I think the show would have performed better without any at all.

Not sure about the writing so far, but it's two cour so it has time to improve.

If this for that, go read the manga, you will have something better. the pace is too fast. They will completely settle the plot for the relationship He could have animated the battles for making it better than in the manga, but no.,

Not sure how I feel about this one yet. The pacing was kinda wack and the plot felt all over the place, but it feels like there’s some potential here with it’s visual style and concept. The fight animation was almost non-existant so I’m a little worried about that. Nevertheless, this should be one to keep an eye on.

I love the dark and shoujo-esque style. It's not exactly the same, but it gave me some Gankutsuou vibes. So far, the best first episode of this season, alongside Akebi-chan.

The super fast pacing is making it seem like a Dement... ehm, an Avant Garde anime, which kinda fits this style, so it's not bothering me.

well...it was interesting but way too fast-paced. might read the manga. just going off of the hair colors, i wonder if richard isn't the father's kid or something and that could be a part of why his mother dislikes him (though it seems that it's mostly because he's intersex).

I am liking the almost-theatrical type of storytelling. And the art and music are beautiful. The backgrounds were painted in such an artistic way too. The anime feels kind of poetic in a way.

The voice acting is nice. I have missed seeing good voice acting! lol

Richard is an intersex boy, and wants to be seen as strong. I liked the way his desire for being seen as tough, despite his small body, is shown by his design, voice actor and even the subtle choice of words in his dialogues. Also, I love how he is the only one of his brothers who looks completely different. It sort of lets us know he is not like the others. (He looks sort of Japanese, but I can understand why a Japanese story would do that.)

Father seems like a very supportive man. The sort that gets killed at some point.

I like the way Richard and Henry met, and got along. And, how Richard wants to kill Henry for his father.

Okay, so I had one small problem. The episode felt extremely fast paced. It was like the contents were rushing to finish. I think this story needs a bit of room to breathe. But, the number of episode this anime is getting is making me worried. I can't imagine a story about war being satisfyingly told in just 12 episodes.

I wish the title for the next episode was not "Father Is My Light"; and instead was something like "My Father, My Light". This story seems poetic and kind of theatrical, so a use of poetic tools in titles can sound nice, I think.

It's not the studio's fault. J.C. Staff have made plenty of great adaptations. But if you check out the staff for this show, you'll find out that the director and script writer (more so the script writer/series composer) don't have that much experience. The people working on it always determine the final quality.

Of course, poor scheduling affects the work a lot as well. The fact that they delayed the premiere by a season was already sus. Even then, it's on the people working on it. We'll just have to see if it gets better.
