Hey guys. Just watched the movie and really liked it for the most part. Rengoku was amazing and I really liked him. However I was not really shocked or emotionally invested by his death. Maybe it's because we barely knew him and he really just got introduced in this movie. Would have loved to see more of him and then get his final battle. Compared to something like

this has nowhere near the impact I felt back then. How about you? And is it just me or are Tanjiro and the others a bit too devastated by Rengoku's death? I mean sure, he was a nice guy to them, but did they really even know him? Like how many hours were between their first meeting and his death? I really liked the movie and the things it did, but I missed the huge emotional impact, many fans felt. And this comes from a guy who is easily affected by tragic stories.

Probably because naruto is a 72 volume story while demon slayer is 23 volume story.

Rengoku was definitely one of the most interesting characters of demon slayer and even I would like to see more of me. (Kind of reminds me of what happened to killian yeeger from d-grayman in anime version, though he was not nearly as interesting)

Early death of rengoku was probably set up to show hashira and demons power struggle difference. In the end, I agree demon slayer has glimpses of idea and doesnt go into as depth and detailed as naruto.
As for tanjiro pov, a comrade with whom he bonded even if for short time and how he died saving his and others ass while he stood their as a liabality to be protected is certainly devasting and frustrating enough. Alteast thats what I think

That is true, yes. Of course it was done to give a glimpse of the demon and hashira powers, but I think a little bit more setup would have been nice. Not much, just like a few episodes to build up the character. At the end of the day Rengoku had such little screentime and I really wished I could have been more invested into his character.

And hmm yes probably Tanjiro felt as a liability, although he did a great job. Overall I was just curious how others felt, since I remember many people saying that the movie really broke them back when it came out. Some even said it was one of the saddest endings they have ever seen and I could totally not agree with that. As you pointed out, Rengokus death was mainly there to show the power struggle and to give the main chars a power goal to strive for, but nothing compared to a real character development tool like in Naruto.

That's interesting. However, for me it was I think a combination of all concerning Jiraiya. The one who he got killed by and what his death meant for Naruto, losing his Mentor and probably something like a father.

Rengoku on the other hand was just a nice and cool dude for Tanjiro who he could look up to for short. But yeah the scenes were really beautiful and sad, just didn't get me that much.

Maybe you were spoiled about rengoku so it didnt hit as hard as you were expecting.
His death was to show that there is a vast difference between the strength and capabilities of upper moon and hashiras. In his fight, He should valor and showed his sense of duty which I guess won the hearts of many people and how he fought till the end, while still ending up losing the fight.

I guess what made the scene more emotional was how devastated tanjiro and the company were to see how difficult it is to beat an upper moon and that they couldnt do anything to help him. I must say that the voice acting of tanjiro was absolutely amazing. His grief, frustration and anger were all displayed in his voice acting and crying and thats what made me more emotional.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

Same here. Even tho I dislike Naruto. Deaths of
were impactful. Whereas in Demon Slayer's case, I was like "uhm ok now what?"

The fact that we didn't get to see him more is what's makes it sadder to me
I knew him for a few time but I wished to see him living as he deserved

Bringing a super long running show into the comparison equation for a character's death is pretty unfair tbh.
People feel more connected to characters they've seen more and know more about.
Rengoku's death hit me pretty hard for a character I've known for like 10 episodes.

I loved the movie but I agree like Rengoku is great but I feel like I’m one of the only people who didn’t cry at his death like it was sad and all but it didn’t cause me like to get really upset and everything, I would’ve also liked to see more of him.

Naruto spoilers

For me it was just the opposite. I didn’t really feel anybting during jiraya death although he was my fav character at that point but I felt very bad when naruto reminisces about him. That’s was the emotional part. However, demon slayer did something. Maybe the music was great and we knew he was gonna die unlike jiraya it was sudden. I really got emotional during jirayas death. I cried like a bitch

Bro, if you put a spoiler alert or hide a spoiler it's for the anime we talking about, not another one.

Anyways, I get what you mean in the sense of neither the viewer nor the main cast really being involved much with Rengoku. However, I felt that the tone of the anime as a whole and its elements (animation, voice acting, fast pace of events, extra personalities, story progress) incremented the intensity and drama of the moment and made it feel how it did for a lot of people. And even if that didn't hit, the aftermoments when the cast breaks down and Tanjiro screams at the fleeting demon, that damn sure does hit

For me that's what makes Demon Slayer so special, not even the storyline itself but how it is so well developed with a unique animation and well-paced progress

These were my exact thoughts after watching the movie
If you are from South East Asia, then I request you, when you will start an anime, you search if it is available on Muse Asia and Ani-one Asia, before looking through piracy websites

Those inserted songs and ED are the reason why I cried, gaahh. I love Rengoku, for protecting everyone and offering his life, salute to him. Its a sad ending and now that I watched it, Homura is really a tribute to him. Its heartbreaking.

Understandable. I also heard from a friend, that just the lyrics made her sad as a native japanese.

Rengoku death is the best in whole demon Slayer
You can't get better one from whole manga
But jiraya death felt nothing to me
Same shit again in Naruto
But jiraya is definitely a better character than rengoku

I remember reading this scene in the manga and I didn't really feel anything too much. I mean, the mugen train arc was like 7 t0 10 chapters long or something and it was like two chapters before that in which Rengoku was one of the Hashira that wanted to execute Nezuko right then and there. So seeing it in the manga, I was like...okay sure he was a badass but not like I care. In the movie, the emotions were more impactful and that's more due to the production set up with the atmosphere, music, and overall drama. Granted, because we didn't get much time with him...it's hard to feel it. But as a production effort, I give the props where it is due.
Don't believe the hype.
