Aniplex opened an official website for a media mix project titled Build Divide on Monday. The project will include a trading card game and a television anime, the latter titled Build Divide: #000000 (Code Black). The website revealed the main staff, a teaser visual (pictured), and a teaser promotional video.

Introduction
"I can see it. The way I can win..."

"This time I will beat him. So come at me again... accept! 'Bloom, gambler of souls!'"

In New Kyoto, a city governed by the "King," one's worth is determined by his or her strength in the Build Divide trading card game. Rumors swirl about New Kyoto and its King.

"If you defeat the King in Build Divide, any wish will be fulfilled." And in order to challenge the King, one must participate in the TCG battle known as Rebuild, and the "Key" must be completed.

Everyone has a wish they long to have fulfilled. Teruto Kurabe, a boy who vows to take down the King, and Sakura Banka, the mysterious girl who guides him, throw themselves into the Rebuild battle. With New Kyoto as the stage, the curtain rises and the battle begins for Teruto and his friends!

Build Divide: #000000 (Code Black) will air in two cours. The first cours premieres this October, when Aniplex plans to launch the trading card game. The second cours is scheduled for April 2022.

Reading the synopsis, it sounds like a mix of Kakegurui and Tower of God.

Imagine having such a bad team to make an original anime. Why even bother at that point?

The creator has made one of the cringiest manga in existence.

The director hasn't done anything noteworthy. Being an assistant director in Blade of The Immortal doesn't mean much when it was carried by the main director.

The scriptwriter has been in mostly badly shows, usually criticized because of bad pacing.

And LIDENFILMS, my god. Stiff animation is inevitable.

Wishes? A mysterious girl who helps you? A card game? Is this WIXOSS, shounen edition? The animation looks good, so I'll probably check it out.

Another original anime with a male protagonist that doesn't try to be an all-female waifus carnival? We live in an amazing time.

The art design looks nice, but card series aren't really for me, so I'll pass

I've liked some LIDENSFILMS stuff, but nobody can deny that their animation is stiff most of the time.

A new card game anime is a bad idea in Japan, it's far too oversaturated, while Build Divide looks good so far, I doubt it has the selling potential on par with Wixoss, Cardfight Vanguard, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Did they just use an HTML color code as an anime title?

Not really. Bandai scored it big with Digimon, and Battle Spirits, and seen sales rise. In Japan, Every TCG except Yu-Gi-Oh! has effectively lost sales. The question is whether the game will be good, or will it be a rotational mess like most card games that fail to plan for the future.

Aniplex is the biggest anime produce and licensor, but the game has to be good and unique. Too many games feel like carbon copies of existing ones.

It looks like most people don't play or buy card games here. I buy, play, and sell TCGs so I can give my opinion. It is ultimately to market a card game. It is a well designed TCG first, anime second.

I am surprised Aniplex has decided to finally try one after all these years. Aniplex is the biggest anime distributor and producer but they never one touch open the TCG side. Aniplex has a ton of big franchises under the belt, notably Fate, SAO, and I am surprised they didn't make a card game that literally rode off of it. Card games that don't ride off hot properties need to be very well designed to stand the test of time. But ultimately those that chose to a card game first rather than a merchandise tie-in reigned supreme. That is why Yugioh is number one in Japan.

Most new card games mechanically nowadays tend to be like a copy of something else. What really kills it is it has to rotate, low-end cards seeing no use, and it is too expensive. Granted, I do think just by the company behind it and the amount of preparation, it will take off in Japan, and can potentially get set for a western release. Of course, I don't think I can buy into it being heavily invested in 2.
