It’s not BL, and I don’t think it’s ever going to go down that route. At most it’s fujobait like Yuri on Ice and Free, and honestly, I don’t personally care. Let people interpret the relationships and dynamics of the characters however they want, and you enjoy it the way you want it, too. To me, everything is a deep platonic friendship only because I’m aro af. |

I dropped the show after ep 1. If this does turn into BL, someone let me know cause I'll pick it up again right away lol. Sad to see a bit of homophobia coming through the thread. Why can't we have just a few queer shows when the medium is already cluttered with thousands of straight romances and canon ships? |

It's impossible for an anime premised around skating competitions to become a BL, since if there are any relationships itwould most definitely not be the main focus. though one of the two main characters romantically likes another of the same gender (explicitly stated so canon), if you'd like some mogai representation. I'm honestly hoping they can pull something like yuri on ice. |

'Cause a good chunk of the Japanese population is homophobic? rhetorical question, I know. Anyway I am laughing at the people in this thread. "I'm not homophobic, but" When someone says "blah blah blah, but..." it usually means everything they said before the "but" was total bullshit and lies. I'm honestly hoping they can pull something like yuri on ice. I mean, from what I gather there is romance in some series like Air Gear. But sports and romance? usually those genres don't mix together very well! But as you say, anime such as Yuri on Ice were able to balance the personal relationships with the sports aspect. SK8 probably could as well, but if it's not the authors intent, there ya go. Though Langa does look a lot like Ash from Banana Fish, and that series was bonafide gay times. (but again, not a focus lol). I think series that don't focus on the romance are nice. Like, you wouldn't want to fill your dinner with salt right? So take it easy... |

I kinda want it to turn into a BL but I feel like it will just ruin the story. Instead,I think it would be a good thing to add romance but not make it the most important thing. |

There is actually three different terms, but think of it as the difference between "Romance" and "Hentai" Yaoi is m/m porn Shounen-Ai is m/m romance In Japan, I've seen that BL can be used to refer to both of those, particularly 18+ content. In the west, BL seems to be more aimed at more wholesome content rather than pornographic. But at any rate, the terms are totally different. After all, Hentai and Romance are not the same genre, right? :P |

Meh, personally I am not watching this for shipping because I find other aspects of media more entertaining than "who is in love with who", but I'd be supportive of if they chose to have gay couples in the show. I feel like Reki/Langa becoming canon is a possibility, but I know lots of similar shows can get sort of baity with these sorts of things. I just have an open mind for what comes next at this point! |

i think that’s unlikely, though it would be nice though i feel like if it became a BL it would become more focused on that, though if the show just stays focused on skating and the relationship becomes a background or a ‘norm’ per sue, that’d be great! |

I think it would be nice to see satisfactory ace representation since it's so hard to come by in a clear "this person is actually ace" sense. I read the show as not really having a hetero vibe. And in that non heteronormative feel; I felt like gay, bi, queer, and ace people could look at this and see characters that they could relate to. I was getting strong ace vibes from Langa around that time. And felt that a few of the characters could be ace. To be fair, I'm still getting some ace vibes from Langa. I didn't even consider cherry and his a.i because that just seems like comedy to me and not a real element to character relations but I can see how that would feel tone deaf I feel like it's so easy to dismiss and ignore ace coding since it's easy to just assume that the focus isn't on romance and/or sexual attraction and then say the characters are probably ______ and not think ace. tl;dr - I coded as possibly ace for some characters because the show doesn't feel heteronormative |

You can read below, but basically, it was bait because it teased a relationship between two characters, but never actually followed through on it. I feel like it's gonna stay as bait. It's a sports anime, stuff like Yuri on Ice was just exceptionally great bait. Well a "bait", sometimes called "fujo bait" or "queerbait", is when a show teases at a gay relationship, but never actually pays out in the end. It hints at it, makes some scenes that can be "interpreted" that way, but never confirms nor denies it. Yuri on Ice is "exceptionally great bait", because it takes the usual bait and makes it 10x more that most anime. They get matching engagement rings and do couples skating. They tease a kiss, but it's magically cut off by a scene change. Them being in love can be one interpretation, but it is NEVER actually confirmed at any point, nor denied. Which is frustrating. But bait lets the authors play the game with all fans. fans who don't want gay and fans who love the gay. If they never confirm nor deny it, it's like Schrödinger's gay. |

Them being in love can be one interpretation, but it is NEVER actually confirmed at any point, nor denied. Which is frustrating. I hate how people are on here acting as if adding a little lgbtq in anime is going to ruin their lives. It's not like lgbtq is popular in anime to begin with, so why are you so pressed? And even if they added gay relationships in the anime, it's still a skateboarding anime, that was always the main focus to begin with. Characters being gay isn't going to make the entire show suddenly BL just like how characters being straight isn't going to automatically make sports anime into romance instead. And in case you couldn't tell the difference, BL is when the anime is entirely focused on the male same sex relationship. This is a sports anime, so even if characters ended up being gay, it would still be a sports anime because the main focus is SKATEBOARDING. I can't believe I had to explain this to people in 2021. |

If people can put up with straight romances in anime then I'm sure they can put up with gay romances as well.
