I would say you don't need to watch anything...... But it wouldn't hurt going on nhentai and brushing up on some AzurLane dojinshi!

Nah, and I'm glad that Yostar/Manjuu are taking this SoL Yuri show as appeal for fans and potential newcomers, no complicated spider-webs like Fate/. Just enjoy the fun, sweetness and comedy

What does Fate's plot have to do with a sol comedy spin off that is mostly aimed at AL players?

You dont need to watch anything beyond FSN to understand Emiya Gohan. This is the same thing.

Both are gacha competitors with successful game-to-anime adaptations, that's why I mentioned it (And also my daily fun in the mobile). Btw it's not necessary that link, I'm a huge Fate/nerd :V

Fate has so many anime series. The franchise is known for having produced series where only game fans could fully appreciate -even understand- the plot. I'm glad Azur Lane anime, even if less epic, are easier to follow. AND CUTE GIRLS *-*

This show is slice of life comedy about azurlane boatsluts. If you aren't fan of main tv series or the game, you have nothing to see here.

These series are in different universes. The original anime is original and only "implies" shikikan in the audience, while this show is an adaptation of canon manga and directly mentions shikikan.

Imo yes. As I wrote in 4-koma's review, comedy is based on character's quirks and they get absolutely no introduction, as it is assumed reader/watcher already knows the universe.
You probably could enjoy it for cutness and SoL heatwarming fun, but it's far from full potential this anime offers.
