| "Silent" recap from Souya's perspective? Pretty interesting, and we get an official explanation as to his deafness as well. Ah man, the food with the pork belly and boiled eggs sure looks good ... I'll try to remember their recipe next time I make boiled eggs XD On top of that, Nikaidou returns!!! So glad to see him doing well especially after being out of the hospital, he won too! :3 Although his opponent does seem like a super nice guy lol. Plus I hope the preview means we'll be seeing more Shimada soon, with him popping up this episode too ... all I can say is I'm such a fangirl for him after last season LOL. Too bad we have to wait until next month for the next episode ... sadness :( |

| I would have loved to have another Chapter with Souya and the fact that he has hearing issues mademe love him even more. I was so happy for Nikaidou I even teared up for him, this show gives me so many emotions It's really such a great anime. |
| That was a great comeback by Nikaidou and I'm really over the moon he recovered. That was a great ep and it's a pity we will see the next ep in a while. |

| Another perfect episode! So Souya can't hear sometimes, even Doctors couldn't identify the cause and some say it because of stress. Its a good thing we have a fun part of the three sisters! LOL at Kiriyama! is he getting infected with the deafness of Souya! and he even put a bit of worrying trouble to Shimada! Damn! he almost cross the street with red lights! Kiriyama is surprised that Nikaidou is now fine and out of hospital! This part is the best part of this episode! SHAFT really executed this very well and very emotional! Nikaidou who gets out of hospital beat an 8-dan opponent! The OST really suits this part as well! Impressive! 5/5. that end card Nikaidou shouting so hilarious! Okamoto Nobuhiko is really good and shouting with impact! oh no! why a 3 week break!?!!? NOOOO!!! |

| Whyyy do we have to wait three weeks! Amazing episode as always. The boiled eggs had me intrigued though. Like, I know how to boil an egg better. Lol I know that Rei can learn a lot from Souya. They just seem like they should be the top contenders in any tournament. |

| The recap at the beginning was pretty interesting. When the sisters appeared, Hina looked more mature to me with a hairstyle like that. It's like Souya sacrificed hearing for shogi mastery lol. |

| I enjoyed the silent recap of the last episode. Reminded me of the first episode. When did Souya get a new suit? Has the Chairman always had Kiriyama's phone number? Poor Chairman, being hungover. Guess the Chairman confirmed that it isn't Souya being a savant (which is still technically a possibility) but moreso Souya being deaf. Why doesn't the Chairman just learn sign language or something? Stress-induced deafness, eh? Never heard of that before, although I'm not a doctor or anything of the sort. Souya's response of just finishing before the countdown was amusing. Nice of Souya to cover Kiriyama's bill. I thought we would get to see Hayashida fangirl over Kiriyama's match. Unfortunate. Do people have a limit to how many papers they can copy there or something? Seems like you can just walk in and print forty pieces of paper. I may have to make those soft boiled eggs tomorrow morning. That food looked so fucking good. Kiriyama literally would have died if Shimada hadn't been there. Whoops. Did Nikaidou really just come up with an entirely new move? I almost find it hard to imagine a 5-dan C1 like Nikaidou could come up with something someone the likes of Souya has never thought of before. I'll let him have his high though. |

| The recap! How amazing is that, the previous episode but without any dialogue? Yet it's so easy to understand. In a previous episode I pointed out (in a different comment section) that Rei hates Shoji, just playing it as a sort of coping mechanism, and I wondered how the series would progress. There are two possible paths: Rei realizes he hates shoji and quits OR he learns to love it. The story seems to be going in the direction of the latter, highlighted by his match with Souya. Also, how heartwarming is that last scene with Nikaidou! He's such a sweetie <3 I've also felt that Souya was sort of a reflection of Rei and what he will become if he continues shoji. Souya is lonely and does not mind being alone and in silence. I feel as though Souya's deafness came about in an evolutionary sense (yes I know it does not work like this) that his body was just like "oh, actually I don't really need to hear." In that sense, Souya has self-isolated and is happy with that. Rei on the other hand seems to need people, to crave company despite being very introverted and preferring to be by himself. So he may end up like Souya if he chooses the shoji path but since he is really different from Souya he will choose to have company. Since this story is about learning to trust and live with other people, it makes sense that Rei and Souya are alike but different. In a way, Rei does not need others to survive but feels incredibly lonely, and Souya needs others to survive but does not need company to be fulfilled. |
