| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Looks like they got some of these top matches decided. With the stakes and emotional buildup this episode, it's the start of a new generations battle. Inokuma's match was very intruging imo with the amount of psychology. Arata's match also had a momentum and this is just the beginning. At this level, the matches we're seeing here shows a lot from the skills of these characters. |

| Karuta teacher pressuring Hosoya-san's character, who saw his strategy and fought back. Revealing that old guy who has been saying bad things about Karuta teacher. Not only he didn't fight against him, he hurt the reader he likes. Ex-queen having hard time concentrating because of her opponent's banner. It seems like she has the same card as main girl that she's good at... Chihaya card, and she's surprised that her opponent is sending it. Karuta teacher is good at right side and Hosoya-san's character is good at left side, it seems. Both veterans win the first battle. Karuta teacher not going to fight the second battle and third battle, though. Regaining that reader's trust and being cool lol~ Mamo's character seeing main girl whispering to Hosoya-san's character. | Ok hold the fuck on, now mind you I havent finished the episode yet but I need to talk about this anyways. So im at 2:38 in the episode right now, and can someone please fucking tell me why they changed that scene from the manga in the anime? In the manga it said "..I would want it to be Arata after all.." "For Arata to be the one to step first.." "..to the dream hall that he spoke of that day." Now in the anime it says: "Will it be Arata after all?" "Will he be the first to reach the stage of the dream we talked about that day?" Honestly thats fucking bullshit. They should NOT have changed that. Especially the first line in the manga. Interestingly enough they redid the audio for the "Youre welcome here! I dont care what anyone else says, youre welcome here!" flashback. I get it, the old VA passed away, but was it truly necessary to redo the audio for that scene? |

| Love those so much. I remember reading it back in the day and cheering so hard for Harada and Inokuma... I started reading the manga at this part. Gosh sdjighokds I still hate the ending of this episode xD I even like Arata now, but it just hurts seeing Chihaya "helping him" somehow when he's so stressed and Taichi seeing everything. THE PAINNNN BRO, THE PAIN. Arata's crossweeps are so amazing. I wish I could do that. Moving on the second syllabe for a cross? Jesus, I think I was only able to do this *MORE OR LESS* with the Wata cards. And I'm not even sure I moved on the second syllabe lmao. And I love how he thinks how hard it is to play against Harada-sensei... Agh, everything is so good. |

| Fantastic episode as always. All the grudge against Harada and the drama cracked me up, lmao. At least he patched things up with Midori-"chan". And him forfeiting the second match*Arata triggered*was a bold yet smart move. |

| Great episode filled with intense matches with the passion of the young and old. First of all the queen match. The "good luck megumu" part was funny tbh, but inokuma sure was going down during the match with all the being past her prime and losing constantly pointed out by sakurazawa sensei , but seeing harada sensei win his match gave her the willpower to turn the match and make the "Good luck to me" for her family's sake. Glad she won.  The much anticipated match between the Harada sensei and Arata. The teacher student duel. Harada sensei saying how much happy he is playing against arata, while arata stating he didnt have friends or people to play karuta with, Harada sensei took him in like his own student with utmost love and care, and he is really grateful & indebted to him for that, that's why he looks up to him with respect. But with that same respect neither giving up and playing with their full potential. Harada sensei with the aggressive moves with the quick defenses to stop Arata's flow while Arata with the new strategies and beautiful crosses to take multiple cards at lightening speed.The beautiful blend of all the elements was a sight to watch. That was a experienced battle and harada sensei showed why he deserved to win with his unyielding determination. Also how harada pissed of Kitano sensei in the past including the reader and now he pissed him even more by complimenting the reader and winning her heart was really funny. poor kitano sensei cant catch a break xD Forfeiting the second match was a really smart move, not only because his physical condition is not great to handle that much strain, also to throw arata off game and because he wants a experienced reader like miss kaho and kind of making up to her for the past. Harada sensei is truly a boss bear xD And then we have a beautiful little final scene. First it was Arata who calmed down chihaya at the end of the previous episode and now its chihaya with the whisper which apparently has calmed him down and at the end both with that mesmerized look at each other.That calm music with the background made it more enigmatic & serene. Just love these moments. Cant wait to watch more. its just keeps getting exciting. Next episode on Jan 7 so will have to wait a bit. Happy new years till then. :) |
| Oh, God! I am so frustrated seeing Arata losing to Harada-sensei! I love Arata so much but this frustration comes from not being able to root for Harada-sensei when my blood pressure was going up seeing him so pumped up! What a man! He even inspired Inokuma-san to victory by taking down Arata. And followed up with "Midori-chan" (I know Midori is a common name but how many do we have in this manga again?) . I am at loss for superlatives to describe how amazing MADHOUSE has been adapting this. Also, Chihaya and Arata looked so beautiful in this chapter. Chihaya in particular would probably got attention of curious eyes of the onlookers! I mean when she is quiet and just sitting there, she is such a beauty that everything I see her my heart skips 1.5 beats! <3 Also, Rion <3. I saw her only in one key frame but that was more than enough. My favourite scene from the episode:  @Fionavar: I actually read the Japanese version when I was doing my third reading (when Chihayafuru s3 got announced to fresh-up my memories) so I have it fresh in my head. Chihaya indeed says "It will be Arata after all. The one to reach the dream stage we talked about that day first (i.e. ahead of her)." The scanlation was wrong. However, it was not meant as a question as read in the official subtitle. The official translation makes it into a question throwing in an ambiguity. In the manga, she actually believed Arata would win but was not sure who would she root for. Edit: forgot to add "first (i.e. ahead of her)" this bit. |

| Fantastic episode. Harada-sensei showing his spirit at his age, I loved how he inspired Haruka as well. His backstory with all the hate was hilarious but I like that he patched things up with Midori. That Arata rage when Harada-sensei forfeited the 2nd game, damn. |

| this series is just sooo damn good OMG. this is like one of the if not the only series i've ever watched that is so ridiculously unpredictable like harada giving up the 2nd bout. i love how the series casually mix in some comedy here and there seamlessly like the Harada flashback, Inokuma's goodluck Megumi, and Harada giving up 2nd bout while they speculate how Harada is the only 50year old that has the stamina for this LOLl i seriously love Inokuma its hard not to cheer for her, but Megumu i still adore Megumu as well. |

| Awesome episode, the highly anticipated matchup between Sensei and Student delivered in flying colours! (like the usual.) I just love the intensity and psychology behind these matches! Harada-sensei's study of Arata putting pressure and then Arata replying back with tactics of his own plus the monologues and reactions of the crowd, just gold! Harada-sensei's little cheap trick at the very start was freakin' hilarious too by the way, I just knew he was looking for something to one-up Arata lol. Now that's how you play with a girl's heart for 40 years xD, Midori-chan is just too sweet in all honesty. Young Harada-sensei was quite the looker holy crap, didn't expect that lol. Looks like he still possesses the same determination as back then, only he could manage that jeez. Loved the transition to the backstory (31 years at that, too!) with Chihaya's commentary as well! And that forfeit! Is this part of a big plan or something? Arata sure got ticked off though, what a nasty trick lmao. I just love Harada-sensei! I have a feeling this has got to do with a bit of fatigue as well, he seemed to give it his all in the first game and seemed a little tired towards the end too. Got to say, it was really sweet to see how Harada-sensei's win motivated Inokuma-san to support herself though. She nearly forgot about the most important support of her life there. Go, go, Inokuma-sama! I wonder if they're planning to release two episode on the trot next week. It'd be awesome as proven by the first three weeks of the airing of this season but I suppose it's just wishful thinking from my part considering they've only announced Episode 13 for Jan. 7th. :( I'm so curious on what Chihaya muttered to Arata though! Darn it, we'll have to wait a couple of weeks to hear that or see the immediate consequences as a result. Poor Taichi... Absolutely can not wait for the second half to air already! Jan. 7th can't come soon enough! Incidentally, it happens to be my father's birthday too so that's two things to look forward to then! |

| Arata looks so handsome in hakama... So difficult to decide who to root for. It seems like the last chance for Harada and it would be devastating for him to lose that while Arata still has more chances in the future but that doesn't mean he can't win already, he totally deserves it too. The last scene with Chihaya whispering something to Arata was beautiful, I wonder what she said. |

| I feel really bad for Taichi right now, but I'm gonna feel even worse for next episode. Loved that we got a Harada-focused episode. He's one of the best characters in the show in my opinion, and this episode more than any other really sold me on his new voice actor. Riveting. Can't wait for more Suo agh love him too. |

| Good matches and satisfying results. Still Harada giving up the second match doesn't make any sense. Just to say sorry to that girl and listen to her reading? To piss off Arata? Pointless; he should take the "free" second game as a chance to win. Well from a logistics viewpoint this means we can entirely focus on the queen match next which the author probably wanted. |
 Harada is amazing. To think that he had such an intriguing past. Then again, I am not too surprised... |
| It was a pretty good start of Master Karuta matches. I really wished support Harada-sensei in some point during the show, but at last of everything I couldn't do that. It seems I trully adore Arata, I wish see him grow up and becoming in a better player than he is now. And of course I want to see someone kicking the ass of the actual master, Arata it's so much closer to do it. |

| Ah man, this next little run was one of my favourite arcs in the manga and I'm excited to see it happen in the anime! We have the veterans vs the upcoming youngsters in both Master and Queen matches, and it's very cool to see how everyone approaches the match. Flashback scene was funny XD Honestly Harada yielding makes sense - if he has to win 1 out of the next 2 games, might as well give his body a break and rest so he can come out with as much energy as he can in the 3rd match, especially since it's not like winning 2-1 or 2-0 makes a difference. Gotta say he was a handsome young man ... and the scene at the end with him and Midori LOL wow she's such a flirt ;P That scene at the end with Chihaya and Arata and Taichi watching ... it was animated so beautifully lol, I don't remember at all what she said so I guess I'll find out in 2 weeks XD Seems like Harada's win was enough to propel Inokuma as well, and I'm guessing that their 2nd match will be the focus of next episode. Funny how I was complaining about too many matches last episode but here I am liking this arc ... haha, well, I guess I just love Harada XD |

Very awesome episode I have to say, here's it is Arata vs Harada match just begun, OMG how this episode passed so fast and now we have to wait for two more weeks to watch the next episode: this is torture... oh well. It was sweet when Harada first hug the trio back when they were in sixth, we saw behind the scene Arata was happy with Harada's words: knowing that he could be himself when he first thought he had no friend nor anyone to play karuta with when he first moved to Tokyo: it's wonderful to see Arata having the friends his treasure with all his heart and knowing he's not alone. Arata did his best to counter his field by switching his cards around for his determination to win ( very flexible player indeed) but unfortunately Harada ( the Yogi bear: that's I called Harada during this match while I was reading the chapters of the manga) he still play he usual karuta and won the first round, it's amusing in how they both played their hardest: their abilities are amazing bought their first round to a spot where both are making their match a challenge: I'm so happy re-living this experience of the story again this time in the animated form. The thing I didn't like in how Harada humiliated Arata by withdrawal the second round: he's mocking with our boy, how dare he...( even I was very angry, poor Arata I can understand your pain, but the good thing our heroine can to the rescue by giving Arata a hand by showing her support, where she whispered at his ear and afterward THEY ARE LOOKING AT EACH OTHER SO PASSIONATELY ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL ( OMG, YES: CHIHAYA X ARATA MOMENT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL: I LOVE THIS SCENE SO MUCH!!!! <3  P.S: The scene Where Chihaya pictured herself as a six- grader cheering for Arata that reflects in my inner heart: THAT'S DEFINITELY ME AND THE REST OF ARATA FANGIRLS CHEERING FOR OUR FAVORITE BOY, HE'S THE COOLEST KARUTA BAKA I EVER SEEN!!!!!! <3 |

| Wow, great episode! I'm glad that Harada-sensei won. As much as I like Arata, I hope that Harada will be the one to make it to the match against Master Suo. He deserves it with his experience, motivation and talent. We also learned why Harada is hated by that another veteran (damn, I forgot his name ;p). This ending was, however, disturbing. I hope Chihaya did not betray her teacher and didn't say something that could've helped Arata. I know they are friends and have a crush towards each other, but it is a match after all. Time for training or learning other competitors' strong and weak sides belongs to the past. |
