I loved the board game this episode tbh. It's basically roleplaying without a TV or controllers but using imaginations from the characters themselves.

Elfenland sounds like a generic name for a game but I think it looks fine. Interesting to also know that Emilia's goal is to become a game designer.

The girls enjoyed themselves playing the game using their imagination.

Emmy is a kind character and she has the same dream as Midori.

The Oni game was interesting

ayy, Elfenland, good choice and one of the most well-known board game adaptations of the travelling salesman problem. Played it at my uncle's place as a child, and a lot more ever since. Optimising that route while taking advantage of the other players' travelling opportunities always provides an amusing hour of entertainment.
Its author, Alan R. Moon, also created Ticket to Ride six years later, another Spiel des Jahres winner and another game about connecting spots on a map.

Still my favourite anime of the season. Midori can't get a break, but it's needed if she wants to get somewhere in the gaming world, and our German girl with years of board gaming experience under her belt is eager to push each other~

This episode was just… okay. It was alright and I didn't hate it. It's just that it failed to emotionally resonate with me. I can understand, from an intellectual standpoint, the jealousy Midori feels at Emmy's interest and talent in games, but emotionally, this particular plotline fell flat. I wasn't impressed by this small conflict, nor was I impressed by their all-too predictable reconciliation.

That said, not everything in this episode was bad. I'm glad that Emmy has become a staple character in the main cast and Marika Kouno and M.A.O. delivered beautiful and charming performances. Afterschool Dice Club might not have deeply-layered characters or a complex and intricate storyline but makes up for it with a pleasant and wholesome atmosphere.

This was the first time I understood the rules of the game the first time they explain it. I mean the Daruma doll game - the other one with the elves and trolls was harder. I always wonder how these girls can start playing right away. Maybe Japanese girls are just too clever for me.

That said, Emmy doesn't understand the first thing about children's games. In the vast majority of them you don't play to win, but for the joy of playing. "Until the bell rings" is the best description I ever heard. But she just turned it into an adult game.

(No, not that kind of adult game - you perverts.)

Emmy made that Daruma-doll game more fun, I liked the little change too, it was more fun than usual. I liked her quote that "new games emerge through the constant evolution of games", wise words from her that certainly inspired Midori.

Something outside board games this episode, Daruma doll fell down reminded me of my childhood. I was surprised to know children in other country play it too lol.

This was such a cute episode, God this series just makes me so happy and relaxed when watching it, really the hidden gem of the year, wish it got more attention, but I guess if it's not titties, explosions and waifus, it doesn't catch on these days. Really enjoyed seeing Emmy's backstory and her desire to make a new game explained. I hope we get a season 2, there's 14 volumes of the manga currently out so plenty of material.

Emmy keep wanting her presence to be known in the trio's group, if that's the take of making her a staple character from now on. Her sense of GPS lost in the real world, but nay in boardgames.

With that, more games in the brief sense...and welp, Midori might have found another rival in the same dream. Remember, the game she made few episodes ago wasn't fit to be a certified game, and that frustrated her ever more.

For Emmy, knowing the games that are popular in Japan, starts with children. In this case, the Daruma Doll game, something like "Green Light, Red Light" or "What time is it, Mr. Wolf?", similar games with different rules pertaining to the country/region.

And changing the style and play of the game in one go? Heck, not even Midori would've deciphered that, THAT IS IMPRESSIVE enough for Emmy, shows her dream isn't one of mere words as compared to Midori. Regardless, bringing the light out of her burdened heart works wonders.

Nice episode.

Japanese version of "Red Light Green Light" which is as said England, and also Americas (since America ppls came from England)

This game pretty much has a version in all countries around the world, not sure where it originated from tho. Possibly since BCe era...

And Emmy turn the simple Daruma game into a "Competitive game"

That was a pretty fun episode. I feel like this series has really picked up and has become more and more interesting as it goes (from a lackluster start, glad I didn't drop this).

Emmy is definitely my favourite character here, and maybe waifu of the season lol

She's kind, fun, and is smart too! I think she may be one reason why I really enjoyed this episode, or maybe she's the primary reason.

That Elfenland gave was interesting. As a computer science student, I recognised that this was basically the Traveling Salesman's Problem and I didn't know that somebody made it inot a game! That looked like a really nice board though, it really felt fantastical.

That Daruma-Doll Fell Down game I definitely knew. I couldn't put my tongue on the English name (Red Light Green Light) until Emmy said it. Though it's more complex. But they're right, children's games don't really end (ends when the bell rings, I laughed at that) and they often don't have reward systems. Really interesting episode.

I never seen Elfenland before, but looks interesting. Looks like this game also has connection with travelling-salesman problem, which I used to learn back in university.

The Daruma Doll game is my childhood game (although we don't called it like that here). Very memorable, a good time when playing this game till the sunset. Rewards and Endings, Emmy is ready enough for making a modern games.

I swear I thought the last game had a different name other than Red Light Green Light, maybe I'm remembering it wrong. That still was a fun game to play though

Really like the fact that Emmy is basically a mix between Aya and Midori. Slightly clumsy but with lots of knowledge about board games.

Good episode overall. Emmy is slowly turning into a quite interesting character.

Same dream as Midori? I can undertand why Midori would feel hesitant to share her dream with the person she only recently met, but ain't that great that Emmy heard her conversation back in ep 4 and learned of Midori's dream, Midori wouldn't have found such a great asset to her dream and quick thinking of Emmy (again) for her to play and adjust rules of the old children's game to motivate Midori is way too nice of her.

Seeing how enthusiastic Midori and Emmy are about being a game author they should just work together they could make a great game together.
