 The official website of the Chihayafuru anime series announced on Monday that the third season's broadcast will be delayed to October 2019 due to "various circumstances." The new season was originally scheduled for an April premiere on NTV's AnichU programming block.The production staff issued a statement that they will make a diligent effort to deliver a superior work, apologized for the delay, and thanked the fans for their continued support. Morio Asaka will return to direct the third season at Madhouse. The three lead cast members, Asami Seto, Mamoru Miyano, and Yoshimasa Hosoya will also reprise their roles as Chihaya, Taichi, and Arata, respectively. The first two seasons premiered in Fall 2011 and Winter 2013, each running for 25 episodes. Sentai Filmworks licensed both seasons in North America and released them on Blu-ray and DVD volumes in September 2017 and March 2018. Kodansha's Be-Love magazine has been serializing Yuki Suetsugu's award-winning competitive karuta manga series since December 2007. The 40th volume was published last November, with the 41st volume planned for a March 13 release. Chihayafuru has a cumulative 21 million copies of its compiled volumes in circulation. Kodansha Comics licensed the manga in February 2017 for digital release and published the 14th volume on January 8. The 15th volume is scheduled to go on sale on March 5. Source: Anime! Anime! |

| This high key breaks my heart. I'm anticipating to watch my girl, chihaya and my boy, taichi again after those years! But if it's for the better for the sequel, then I have no choice but to trust their decision! |
| God, no, Really gutted to see this! I was looking forward to this so much, it just made the upcoming Spring Season so much more interesting and somewhat diverse, among the sequels anyhow. But, thankfully it’s not a year long wait or so, so I can accept it or at least hopefully I’ll come to it. Still disappointed though, but I really hope this extra time will allow MadHouse to absolutely blow this out of the park, just like for the previous two glorious Seasons! I’m looking forward to seeing this along with Boku no Hero Academia Season 4 and hopefully both of these will be 2 cours or more too! Chances are high for a 2 cour for both these shows, I know, but you really can’t tell at times until the confirmation has been made y’know. |

| How sad that a day or so ago I was talking about how I was looking forward to spring purely because of Chihayafuru 3 and Diamond no Ace: Act II, and then this happens... Oh well, if its for the sake of quality then I don’t mind. I’d rather wait longer and have a better show than get it sooner and it be not as good. |

| Oh well, this sort of delay doesn't really bother me. The show is less likely to be rushed, and I would've waited for it to finish airing before watching it anyway, 'cause fuck having to wait a week between each episode. |

Honestly? Nothing short of cancellation (GOD FORBID! Hope i didn't jinx it dfkjdsk) can put a damper on my happiness on this show getting a 3rd season at all. Pushing it back a season is no big deal, especially if it means better quality (s1 & 2 were top notch). I'm already immensely relieved that Madhouse is taking it up with the same old team from cast to director, so I have no complaints. If anything, I hope they deliberate more and consider extending it to 2 x 2 cour seasons like before! *fingers crossed* Mod Edit: Thread Cleaned. All the bating and flaming have been removed. |
