Somewhat of a slower paced episode but it's interesting to see more of Stella's past.

I expect the bigger fights to break out again soon. And in the meantime, hopefully Stella can keep her own emotions in check especially after one of teammates caused her to punch him.

Every time there is a Stella episode I find my self wanting to know what is happening with Yuki.

I really can never predict where this Anime is going to go next. Every time I try, it just leads you down a different direction. I wonder how Yuki is going to get her self back into this story.

So more about Stella's background, it was already clear during the previous Stella episode but this is pretty much reeducation in a horrible way.
Basically abducting them and placing them in a foster family.
And even getting some of them to willingly fight their own country, their own family.

Anyway the thing that has been bothering me when it comes to Yuuki's side is their lack of tactical ability or better said they seem to be making a lot of tactical blunders.
If we look at Stella's unit flanking attack it looked like the rearguard was almost non existent, there was the elite soldier but besides that they had a pretty easy time outflanking the enemy.
I find this strange because not only did they leave their rear almost unguarded it was also their supply line, you don't wish to be attacked from behind and you always want to keep your supply lines open.
Usually when you see a encirclement of siege being formed the most fierce fighting often takes place on the supply lines for obvious reasons.

Which makes it looks like someone is deliberately making those blunders i also suspect treason, which we saw before during the second episode.

One thing that's also a possibility judging from the end of the episode is that Yuuki's side has changed tactics which wouldn't be weird after having suffered major loses.
What i mean is the attack on the convoy my guess is that Yuuki's side is opting for guerrilla warfare which makes sense seeing they are outnumbered but know the terrain.

Again, continue to be impressed by the writing and the way the characters are handled. I feel like it's just getting better and better as it's becoming more focused. They have the drama, but don't lay it on too thick and it is decently powerful. Quite a bittersweet feeling seeing the invaders going through their plunder. They're shocked to see the results of the shelling, but profit from the to be discarded wine. But, they enjoy hometown delicacies. They do have great chemistry though, not going to lie.

Finally, someone from Stella's milieu is dead. Her side did destroy a civilian transport earlier in the show so, what comes around... I'm still unsure if this anime is going for a feeling of moral ambiguity or not, because Stella and her people are written to be way, way more sympathetic than anybody else. Will have to wait and see.

I prefer Stella's team story slightly more than Princess Yuki's team tbh

I'm really enjoying this series so far.

I should have seen it coming, the death flag was there and all, but... Poor Pierce ;_;

This anime keeps getting better and better. I wonder what's Yuki doing now.

There's no indication Stella was abducted. Remember she was in the town that was destroyed, killing Yuki's parents and Joshua's dad. She is Layla's daughter, and when that roof collapsed, Layla thought both her husband and Stella were killed, and she stumbled out and was picked up by an ambulance evacuating Yuki. Stella was probably found by a Grandigan and evacuated (good chance it was Gale Owens who saved her). They probably had no idea she was from Soleil, and I'm pretty sure Stella doesn't remember either. In this episode she said she only has vague memories of her childhood.

The foster family wasn't brainwashing her. It seemed they were caring for her like good parents until the baby was born, and probably the resource crisis that Grandiga was going through made it hard for them to raise two kids. Their attitudes became surly, but it still looked like they were doing their best to raise Stella. Stella ran away from them because she didn't want to be a burden, and she probably joined the military because she had nowhere else to go.

Izana is alive, but it is being used so that the town of Soleil surrenders, what a shame that now they call him traitor.
On the other hand today we had more information about Stella's past, as a citizen of the Grandiga Empire and I can say that now I dislike them more, that includes the tyrannical emperor we saw for the first time.
Stella suffered a lot as a child, without knowing who she is and living in a family that literally betray her and force her to pretend to be happy was horrible, at least she managed to "run away", but the aftermath of that horrendous psychological mistreatment continues to affect Stella.
Stella meets Yuuki's sunflower garden, apparently she could understand a little the person who took care of these flowers.
It was a shame what happens with Pierce, at least from the point of how Stella and Lily took it, since they are the only ones I like from that squad along with Owens.
Huey proved to be a complete Dick, I look forward to seeing how the soldiers of Soleil transform him into ground meat, and I found a ridiculous that Stella could not give him the deserved hit.
I do not know why I have the feeling that in the next episode Grandiga will kill Izana, the title of the following episode made me feel that maybe he will give the last message to the people of Soleil.

About the reaguard thing... My understanding is that they banked on the difficult terrain(They did choose a good spot to set up shop) helping them out by slowing the enemy movements and buying enough time for reinforcements to come in after the enemy was spotted. The spotting didn't go well though.

Idk, I kinda like this anime, but to be honest in any story it is quite hard making both sides likeable. It seems this show is trying really hard with it, but at least for me it fails to make me care about the "bad guys". Which is sad since like half of the episodes are about them.
Since it is a war, there is no really a good side, but still you have to pick one.

I don't really care about the guy who died. It's a war, people are dying everywhere. Those who pick up a sword has to be prepared to die by one.

Obviously I would like to see a comeback, though if anywhere in this anime there won't be miracles happening. I wonder, since Empire is deep in their territory will they do a scorched earth strategy (we saw earlier episodes they cleared out every storage that's left behind, and this episode the empire's soldiers sure did't have tons of food), harrashing their opponents supply routes, since nobody has flying vehicles. Though it is not winter and their country is not as huge as Russia :D

I'm kind of glad Pierce died. Like it's been all blue team winning up until this point in the anime. So for the group to come across the loss of a close teammate it was well overdue.

Stella having a bad relationship with her foster parents gives me more hope that when Stella and Leila meet it will be a more warm reunion then bloodshed. At least that's what I hope.

Yeah I feel like the story has no set route. Like Blue team is dominating and are probably going to win the war, however how will Yuki be affected by this? It's intriguing but in a sense it's kind of infuriating that the story is somewhat all over the place.

An attack on evacuated soldiers? o_o

While I "liked" this eps and can see its place in the grand scheme of things, I don't understand how it can be the 7th out of 12. We're in the 2nd half of the series, the story should be more clearly progressing toward a finale (I guess it will be a single eps finale).

5/5 Lots of potatoes ⇒ +1

@imSOunique As long as we see that both sides are "equivalent", the show does its job. It doesn't care that we don't care about fictional characters.

I hope I didn't seem to take the defence of this show when I actually think that there is a big problem in story management for the half-length format with, indeed, so much time lost and so many "useless" episodes (that I wouldn't have considered useless in a 26eps series, where things turnaround only at the 12-13th).

They were using a military transport, the enemy may have had no idea what was in it. Grandiga has had no problems killing civilians so far.

I wouldn't even be surprised if the Emperor killed his own people to blame it on Soleil so that he could stop any ideas of peace talk

Unfortunately, the anime wasted another opportunity to make Stella's team more likeable respectively likeable at all. Instead we only see them running around collecting supplies for the farewell party of a character, which I hardly care about.

It was long overdue, that they are facing the harshness of war. That they got away unscathed every single time until now became ridiculous.

At least Pierce's death, as much as I hate to say it, wiped Stella's retarded smile from her face and she finally showed an actual reaction.

Some people said that Pierce death was kind of predictable but for me it took by a big surprise, I thought that he will really go back home to the orphanage and will see him again later at the end. Any way I think that Soleil now is playing guerilla war (and it is like they don't have any other option) and I'm still wondering how Yuuki deal with the unexpected changes of plans that was given to her. I will not dare to make any predictions for next episode but the title seems like a dead flag (Izana maybe???). This anime always take unpredictable plots and maybe that's the reason why I'm appreciating it so much.

I have to say this was a good episode. It really did a lot for Stella. We got to see not only her squad mates bonding, but we also got to learn more about her and even saw a shift in character. It makes sense that the death of Pierce (which was predictable) would cause some reaction and moreover Huey's, another squad mate, could get under her skin. I'm glad the captain finally voiced his opinion of Stella to her face and the Yuki indirectly caused Stella to change. This episode was a great payoff.

That was really dumb tactic of them, having a higher ground and pretty sweet spot and still lose. When you have position like that you aways watch you rear and supply line and you keep it guarded at all cost you cant leave it wide open like that. They really lack in tactics area and they should do something about it or they never gonna win this thing. It makes me angry of seeing how easy they lost that advantage.

Anyway this war seems pretty pointless to me, having in mind what kind of ruler Yuuki is I'm sure if they would just ask she would agree to have them co-op of the creation of the new chars(or whatever it called) and have a mutualy help each other. Without any of the sides losing resurses on man in fighting a pointless war. Hell she was even thinking that's its actually what happening until few ep back.

In conclusion the anime had a good start but it really predictable and plot its not really a logical one I know people had started wars for less but they colonised a planet which means they have knowledge about history and that cooperation is always better. I guess I will keep watching it just to see how it will end.

It is not written on them that they are evacuated soldiers. In a war any and every small advantage you can take, you will.

Yeah the show does a good job showing that there are humans on both sides with feelings. But for me apart from this I could have skipped every single episode that was about the other side, and wouldn't change a thing, they didn't have a single thing to do with the plot so far. Only characterising the other leading character, who has yet to do anything important (but I guess maybe she will).

But I guess they can't appeal to everyone, and still, this is one of my favorite shows of the season.

Grandiga's Emperor sure looks like the kind of person who would kill his own soldiers in order to justify more war.

That aside... Dude, you should just have used protection if you aren't able to keep a family with two kids... and the mother suddenly being cold and distant from one day to another was just hilarious.
Honestly, I was expecting a better reason for Stella's trauma of always being smiling but well. I also wonder when they will finally explain how she ended up being taken by the Empire.

In my opinion, this was the weakest episode so far. They tried to make me empathize with Stella's squad with some background information about them and some "happy" scenes of them making a meal with supplies from the palace they were invading but I'm sorry, it didn't work for me.
