So... the moral of the story seems to be that you're a great, happy and free man if you drink sake all day, keep women as slaves, beat up everyone who opposes you and teach monkeys to be alcoholics as well. Good to get that learned.

No matter how far they travel, almost everyone in this universe seems to be an arse.

This was one of those episodes... Guy who drinks sake all the day and has thaught monkeys to drink it too? I wonder why 999 stops on planets that have only one person living in it. Are they bringing sake to him?

Well, it's a "lawless place", after all

Lisa's feelings are a glaring example of Stockholm syndrome. I hope she will do fine without hygiene and medicine. At least the air is clear

That was very kind of Tetsuro to not use his gun

Beautiful episode, feels good (and almost weird) to have a happy one. Sakezan x Liza OTP. Sakezan is a bro.

It's also interesting how the concept of hapiness was linked to freedom. Granted here it kind of implied a more "free of material constraints" angle than the "freedom is a state of mind" angle, but I'm sure if there are more happy characters later on the show might explore that other side too.

I'm a bit baffled by the comments above tbh, by now people should have realised it's a metaphorical sci-fi show -- as is often in the old school -- that tries to illustrate absolutes, like the goddess of time, the hollowness of reject, the immortal of writing... And as such it asks for a more important suspension of belief than usual. Which is why I believe serious considerations like morals or hygiene have no place in the reception of the show, and furthermore are deterrent to the inherent fun provided by the imaginative exploration that is the show.

And seriously what is that bit about Stockholm syndrome? Sakezan rescued her from a crash, and they love each other. How is it even possible to twist a representation in such an inane way?

I like these happy ending episodes, feel like most of the time they are depressing and it's nice for a change.

This episode annoyed me but it deviated from the usual lesson thankfully.

2/5 "Sakezan" the sake-obsessed Tarzan, really? ...

Another episode I'm completely at a loss on. Someone like Maetel shouldnt be knocked out by that caveman stick. Where's her ability at like in previous episodes. She couldve just finish him off easily. Also single planet with one or two person. Natural sake? the amount of sake he seems to drink, wouldve give him plenty of health issues.

Honestly this whole incident simple for Maetel so i dont get her. Also

I can only assume that when Maetel gets captured, she does so on purpose to teach Tetsuro a lesson about something. Since she is the Most Interesting Woman in the Universe, after all

Like a few other episodes so far, this gives a off a kind of musky male odor that feels obliviously patriarchal by modern standards. Mainly the way Sakezan decides he likes Tetsuro because Tetsuro din't give up (there's Maetel's lesson!), and rewards him by returning Maetel. All part of the reverse Hikaru Genji plan, I assume

Liza mentions that Sakezan was behaved frighteningly to her at first, which, doesn't sound good to put it mildly. As others have said, it seems like Liza is acting like a battered woman or Stockholm syndrome sufferer.

Agree.

The surrealism is precisely what makes this such a joy to watch. Limiting the narrative by application of unnecessary common sense would've done this series more harm than good in terms of enjoyment. Especially since it was also supposed to appeal to children. Stories depicted in a non-literal sense tend to be more engaging, provoke thoughts and are likelier to bring the messages across.

Sakezan was not a really bad person. He was a man among men, as Maetel herself mentioned. However, he was a man who learned from Tetsurou how wrong he was being by trying to separate his and Maetel's fate.

I'm not keen on neanderthal characters like Sakezan. Being a barbarian is bad enough, but an alcoholic one?

I would've never gotten off the train in the first place.

Tbh, so far i'm not a big fan of Tetsuro.
He's ignoring a lot of warnings and do things that he shouodn't do.
But, this episode.
He decided to save Maetel when he got a change to flee. He earned a +1 for me.
Still not liking him, but earned some respect.
