As a match between two of the most noticable characters in the series, I figured we'd get a very intense battle.

However, I think what's more important is the lead up to this match. We got to see more of background storytelling on Ayano as she practiced for endless hours during her childhood.

The match itself had a momentum as it highlighted some of the more precise plays from both players. Ayano had that brutal look on her face like she was preparing this moment for her life.

Great episode.

While I probably can't accept Uchika's method of doing things, I can understand her philosophy of saying that there is some form of purpose to be found in devoting yourself to something, in fact I can relate to that philosophy but as I said, her methods of going about teaching Ayano that were perhaps too extreme. At the very least she understands that she was being horrible parent and isn't arrogant enough to say that she was doing the 'right' thing. Like I said last episode, she doesn't seem like a bad person but I guess her priorities just lie elsewhere. Surprising that Uchika's reasoning is actually founded in her own logic. It may not redeem her as a parent but it at the very least gives her character. Funny how the character I thought would probably have the stupidest reasoning for things is actually well founded regardless of whether us as the viewer can accept it or not.

The match was intense and exciting, fantastic animation, kept me on the edge of my seat. Great work in terms of production.

Congratulations to Nagisa for winning the second match, she really hung in there.

Personally, I loved the part where everyone cheered for Ayanon at the end, those are the kind of things I love in sports anime. If only I had more attachment to Ayanon as a character, I would've gotten so emotional during that scene. That's also what kinda bugs me as well, in the flashback montages we got before everyone started cheering for Ayano, you can see that she slowly starts to grow attached to the concept of a 'team' but fast forward today and she's some abandoned everything that she gained in the early episodes. I'm glad that the people around her are much more forgiving willing to look over all the shit she's given them in the past few episodes and still cheer for her.
As for Ayanon, she may not respect her teammates and friends in fact she pretty much looks down on them but I hope that at some point she understands she's got some real trustworthy people by her side (which honestly I thought she recognized early).

Anyway, excited for the finale.

So, she left without a word after Ayano lost a match, and found a new disciple.

How can you interpret it as anything else, than being discarded by your own mother?

And now she dates to show up like nothing f*cling happened and to even say, that it was for her own benefit.

Looks like badminton is more important to her than her own daughter.

This match has no meaning in sport terms. Both are qualified for nationals. Nagisa is risking her future and her chance at nationals to try and beat Ayano.
Ayano put her mental frame of mind on the line just to prove she could abandon her mother
Her mother feels justified in leaving since it gave Ayano an edge
Nagisa is right The team has no meaning Ayano certainly does not owe those losers anything They have never been behind her For them to claim that she owes them effort is ridiculous

Well at least Uchika let Ayano know straight to her face she wasn't coming back

Art style seemed to be all over the place with Hanesaki and Nagisa. Also the scoreboard was acting up the entire 2nd game. 1 sec it's 17-15 Hanesaki, then it's suddenly 15-all

And once again things get resolved way too quickly (mainly since it's only 13 eps I'm guessing). All this buildup with Hane's yandere shit and it gets resolved in like 10 mins lel. Same thing happened with Nagisa's slump

Well, they pretty much dampened any hopes I had for a potential second season. I'm sure the finale is going to a happy ending where everything works out in the end. Not that that would be a bad thing but to me it would just make the whole ending feel underwhelming. I honestly wanted to see more of Connie and Kaoruko and for them to redeem themselves in a way but at this point that's not likely to happen. Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted.

It pretty much reminds of Indiana Jones and his relationship with his father. Henry Jones tried to teach his son self reliance by disguising it with his obsession of the Holy Grail. But yeah, I'm glad that we finally heard her side of the story. I knew Uchika wasn't a bad person, she just didn't know how to be a mother because of her love for badminton. It's not an excuse for what she did, and she knows it and admits it, but I understand her better now.

Did she just copy that mother from Your lie in April. I hope this mother did like that one did That mother did the things she did because she knew she was going to die. What is HER reason for all this. Man I hate Both mother-daughter duo this episode. Usually I want the MC to win the finals (but they normally won't). But here I don't care, even Nagisa treated her team mates like crap. So I won't root for her either. Only Elena is the only likable character in the show.

I wanna know WHY THE F****K she trained that s**lt then. Her reason does not make any sense. She abandoned hey daughter for 8 years to train Connie because she wanted Ayano to be independent. So why was she supporting Connie then? Seeking your loved one abandoning you and training someone that which connected with each other most hurt a lot.

I guess I should give.........some praise to Uchika for admitting that she's a bad parent to Ayano and prioritises badminton over her own daughter. Despite that, I hope it's not too late for her to at least TRY to build some bridges with Ayano. We might find out if that happens in the last episode or not.

As for the match, although both Ayano and Nagisa have already qualified for nationals, the fact that both are going all out against each other show's that the match isn't as meaningless as one average Joe would assume. The psychological warfare between the two is really intense as both win one set, but Ayano's mental strength was started to weaken alarmingly in the final set.

So, for once, Sora gave her some solid words of encouragement, along with of the other members of the badminton club as well as the watching audience too. That should give Ayano a big psychological boost that should help her claw back the 8-point deficit to Nagisa and I'm still predicting this third set will go the distance to a 2-clear point scenario at 20-20.

And with that, I'm hoping the last episode's third set will be thrilling and exciting. This episode had some excellent animation as usual, so I'm expecting the same for next week. =D

So Uchika has again reaffirmed that she's an awful mother. Hey, at least she openly admitted to that fact.

Now that both Nagisa and Hane-psycho have won once, let's see who ends up winning the deciding match.

I really like this episode. I'm not sure how they gonna conclude the story since some part is different than the manga counterpart.

I'm 85 percents sure that they gonna go for the original ending of this arc with a bit of some minor adjustment. I really really hope they went with different outcome tho, I think it might fits with this story line better and

Oh so Uchika , Ayano's mom admits not being a good mom and has the nerve to admit it and doesn't make any effort to make up for leaving Ayano and instead leaves again like that, I wonder if Ayano's dad is as bad as her mom, since we don't have any idea about her daddy? One more to go, so will nagisa win and put Ayano in her place or will Ayano beat Nagisa and be a bigger bitch ?????

So while I don't agree with Uchika nor support her methods, I understand why she did that. Ayano was too clingy with her and she didn't played Badminton for herself, this being the main cause of Ayano asking herself "Why do I play Badminton?"

Well I don't hate Uchika, nor dislike her. It's a weird feeling.

Besides that, this episode was amazing.

This series is just weird, you know I can't really this was a good episode or just another disappointment

This series builds things up pretty goodly but then they end it in 5 sec or so, and endings don't have that much of impact that they should have

Take the scene when the whole crowd cheered for her as an example , I mean like yeah she played well and then suddenly she is losing the game so it's normal for the crowd to cheer for her but ffs she wasn't stressed because of the normal things that most people stress about, actually she was obsessed with the fact if she loses, her mother will leave her,
I mean like do you want to develop your fucking character or not , if you want to develop your character, why not have a scene that crowds are cheering for her even through she lost so she would learn that it's not all about winning
I don't know man, why they always do this shit, at this rate this series is just a sad disappointment

I don't think the whole stadium is cheering for her but some specific people and they just cut to those specific people while the rest of the crowd just cheered in a neutral way for the game itself. At least that is the way i understand that part.

I completely agree on Elena though. Clearly the worst character in the show. If you are a best friend to someone and know his family for literaly years you kind of should be direct when something there is shitty. That is what good friends are for, not just echoing pleasent stuff and making smalltalk but also calling shit out if you see shit.
If you best childhood friend doesn't do it nobody will and you probably will end up a psycho asshole like we see with Ayanon and her mother.

"Ayano ended up playing for me," Ushika is a hypocrite, how can you say that, your daughter just wanted your acceptance and make you feel proud of her, but the good thing about this was to hear Ushika admit that she is a horrible mother and that was a little satisfying, the only thing that is missing is that Ayano tells her that in her face and a bitch slap as a good bye gift.
But what matters in this episode was the match of Ayano VS. Nagisa, the first set was intense, Nagisa showed control and intelligence when facing Ayano, to bad that she lost it, but the difference was not overwhelming.
The second set left me impressed, the faces of Ayano and Nagisa were intimidating and aggressive, they no longer looked like school girls, they were more like two adult women.
Ayano is still unstable, both for her conflict with her mother and the new style of Nagisa, which ends in the victory of Nagisa. I do not want to justify Ayano for how she treat her teammates, but she is in a horrible mental state and i am surprised that Ushika sees that and does not feel remorse or something that can be seen on her face.
The last set starts and Ayano plays very badly leaving her with an overwhelming disadvantage, the fear that she will be abandoned again because she is not a good player, it frightens her, but despite her bad attitude, her teammates encourage her to play aiming for victory, and so the the rest of the audience encourages both players to continue, while we see how the people close to Ayano cheer her up and with that she manages to win her first point in this last set, the question is, who will win?
Personally I want Nagisa to win, lets be honest, her effort deserves it, but the anime is about Ayano and how she manages to overcome her drama with her mother and enjoy badmington as a normal girl. Coach Kentaro reminds Nagisa that he will stop the match if he sees that she feels pain, this makes me confirm that Nagisa will have a huge advantage in the match to the point of having the victory close, but her knee will affect her to the point of leaving the game and Ayano will have an empty victory which may mean a new change in her life and who knows, maybe they use the disgusting argument that Ayano reconciles with her mother which would be a horrible ending.
For me the best ending to this anime would be Nagisa win the match, and Ayano will recover her adorable personality and go back to work with her team.

Hmm no? I never said that agree her methods, I just UNDERSTAND why she did it. Understanding=/=Agreeing

Abandoning is what she did wrong, separating herself from Ayano and Badminton was the right thing to do. The problem is that Uchika failed to do a simply thing as normal parenting. She still could train any other kid while being a normal parent to Ayano. But she's too centered about the sport. And is no surprise that people like that exist IRL.

Uchika is a fucked up mother and human being.

Anyways, it feels like Hanebado tries to hard to be "different" when it comes to developing certain characters, and while I normally encourage this, Hanebado unfortunately fails. It ends up being weird and forced up our throats.

I like Hanebado for the beautiful animation and the great badminton matches, it's got a good cast of characters but ultimately fails at developing most of them without it just being weird.

The melodrama reached such a level that it already looks like a psychological teen drama with elements of sport. To be honest, I like the overabundance of the drama in the series and how epic everything becomes on the last episodes, but now I am increasingly being visited by the thought that this is becoming somewhat excessive.

So, now I'm afraid to imagine what burst of melodrama will happen next week.

This often happens with parents, whose profession is somehow connected with education. For example, just as Uchika perceived the upbringing of her daughter as a training, my mother teacher also perceived my upbringing as a school teaching. This is a kind of professional deformation, I think.

I'm aware of this. My mother was a elementary school teacher and I was the example of her level as a parent and a teacher. She even took that to some level of rivalry with a friend of her that was also a teacher and had a daughter the same age and level as me (actually my best friend). But she never crossed the line of forgetting I was her daughter first.

Again, people like Uchika exist. She did something terrible? Yes, but she actually thought about her daughter, she wanted Ayano to LOVE badminton and play it not because of her, but because of her daughter loving badminton herself.

At first I wanted badly for Ayano to lose, but my hate boner for her went flaccid a few minutes in. I like her now. I want her to win and flip her cunt mother the bird when she tries to congratulate her.

This almost certainly won't happen, but it's my ideal ending.

Also, Ayano's face gets really mature throughout the episode. I just found that amusing.

Damn, they have made the mother really awful. She has done something horrible, she is aware of it, she doesn't regret it and she even seems proud of it, not to mention that she treats Ayano in a super casual way as if nothing had happened.

On the other hand, the match is great and exciting, the art changes and makes evident how Ayano becomes more and more like her mother while she loses her temper.

Finally, it comes to the moment when Ayano sees the light and I must say that I didn't like it very much, I don't know, I was expecting something MORE PERSONAL instead of a group of strangers cheering her up.

Well, as for the original motivation, I agree that she wanted the best for her daughter. If I, of course, correctly understood you. Otherwise, we will have to assume that she is a sports-obsessed sociopath, but I do not see any serious signs of this.

Other anime have parents dedicating themselves to their dreams WHILE being a parent (Major and I'm sure others). Ayano's mother is just trash. Even after her explanation of why she left and admitting it was wrong, I still pray for some supernatural being to come and destroy her unexpectedly. Haven't wished a character to DIAF this badly in recent memory. I'm still trying to understand Anayo's reasoning of acting like a bitch to win so that she can then bitchily reject her bitch of a mother.

For all the people who are saying that Uchika deserves divine punishment, do you really think that's going to make things better? Especially for Ayano? I don't disagree that what Uchika did was wrong, and she ADMITS it, but she did what she believed was best for Ayano. As for Ayano herself, I would like a scene where she let's out all her pent up anger towards her mother, but let's say she does that along with saying some horrible things.

Then right afterwards something happens to Uchika, like having an accident that leaves her hospitalized or worse. I'm sure many of us here will going, "Haha! Serves you right bitch!" but how do you think Ayano going to feel by then? That would be divine punishment because of her quest for revenge. Things wouldn't get better for her, it would only make it worse. Hating your parents for something they did is one thing, but wanting them to die is another.

Hanebado! has been highly praised for it's realism and I have to agree. This show has done an excellent job on just how flawed human beings can be.

This episode was so intense but i loved it so much. The game and Erena talking to Ayano's mother at the same time made this episode so good!
Honestly, right now, it's a 9/10 for me. Amazing episode, that goes for the plot as for the game. They did an amazing job.

As expected there was nothing that could make me forget or even like Ayano's mother, she is still the same s*** that i expected her to be.
I really hope that Ayano will win and end her relationships with her "mother" ...

Nagisa really surprised me with her great game, she worked really hard for this moment but i believe that Ayano still can win this!
Loved the moment when everyone cheered for Ayano! You can do this! You go girl!!!

First of all, the dialogue between Elena and Ayano's mother was waste of time for Elena, she did well for sure, but stayed knowing the same, that Ayano's mother is a horrible person, and dont deserve be loved for her own daughter!

This match became really intense, Nagisa showed how much she had prepared for this match, she stayed calm and even change her playing style to defensive, Nagisa deserves to win, for sure!

For me Ayano deserves to lose, friends and opponents dont have blame about her problems, of couse she have totaly reason to be perturbed, but treating badly everyone cause of her mother, doens't work for me!

Btw, Riko looked really cute when she hugged Nagisa after she won second match!
And the moment between Nagisa and teacher was really nice, when she said that he would missunderstand if Nagisa look at him after make one point!

I liked the Ayano eyes after they made her keep playing, looked like the real Ayano!

I was surprised when they also rooted for Ayano. Her mother is a real shit of a parent, but hey it works for her fine.

Nagisa might lose this game though since her leg is troubling her, but now she's playing like a G.

man this show does a really bad job in getting you to sympathize with their douchebag characters...Nagisa is probably the only one that was redeemable

speaking of Nagisa, shes not getting her win back is she?

The dialogue with Elena and Ayano's mom was pretty useless but the match between Nagisa and Ayano was off to a great start and the animation was phenomenal as usual.

I'll say the sport content was awesome and the drama content was meh.

Still, a great episode. Kinda intrigued to see how the finale will play out. Hoping for that Nagisa 'W' :D

So while I don't agree with Uchika nor support her methods, I understand why she did that. Ayano was too clingy with her and she didn't played Badminton for herself, this being the main cause of Ayano asking herself "Why do I play Badminton?"

Nah, I don't get it. My kids were super-clingy and they picked up hobbies that I liked because they wanted to spend more time with me. Then they got older and either found their own hobbies or stuck with mine, but for their own interests. At no point was I ever tempted to abandon them for eight years to take them to the next level. My answer to all that was to spend more time with my kids. None of them ever made it to the Olympics, but they're all happy, well-adjusted non-psychopaths.

You don't have to get it. Not all parents and kids are the same. Some parents think that it's better to punish their kids with physicall damage, others just talk to them, both of the options having negative or positive repercussions in the children. Again that's not an excuse for what she did but she thought she was doing it for her daughter and not for herself. She thought that Ayano could achieve more playing for herself rather than being attached to playing with her. She executed it terrible? Yeah, she even admits it. She even says that she know she's a bad parent.
And that's why it's hard for me to hate her character.
I would hate her if she went to ayano dramatically and started to apologize because, what would be the point of apologizing after leaving her? then everything would've been in vain. She knows she doesn't deserve to be forgiven. She would be a cynical hypocrite.

The only good thing about this anime is Nagisa. The rest of this series can miss me with the edgy bullshit. I started out really having hopes for the series in the beginning and grew to hate it week by week.
Don't believe the hype.

So Ayano finally unleashes her right hand to the game. Things are about to get hectic.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

I love this anime just for all the crazy faces lol they do it so well... it also looks like Ayano is literally going through puberty right before our eyes and grew up into her mom lol
