For those unaware, Funimation has been puting political agenda in their dubs lately, it started in Prison School with coments about GamerGate, and later in Kobayashi-san chi no Maid Dragon when a whole dialogue of Tohru and Lucoa was changed into a feminist one. Turns out they did it again: In Hajimete no Gal we now have LN readers being called (And i'm not making this up) weirdos and cucks, not only that, but we also have the use of the word SJW, and no, none of this phrases was in the original one. I only have the source in portuguese tho: https://www.vocesabiaanime.com.br/2017/09/dublagem-americana-de-hajimete-no-gal-leitores-de-light-novel-sao-tarados.html Yep, time to grab our tiki torches once more. |

Edit: In the interests of killing this false rumor more effectively, I'm including a quote of part of my post debunking this. Click my name in the quote box to quick-jump there. Original Post: Seriously? Funimation is a flippin' anime company. You really think they're going around insulting otakus? I could watch the show in question just to prove you wrong. However, I frankly don't care enough to scour a show I have no interest in for one supposed line. Even if such a thing were in there, any supposed mockery Funimation might make of otakus is bound to be tongue-in-cheek. Besides, you're the one making this ridiculous claim, so, to paraphrase Gandhi: "Video clips or it didn't happen." thewiru said: not only that, but we also have the use of the word SJW Oh, sweet mother of Urobuchi, not that! thewiru said: Yep, time to grab our tiki torches once more. a brief translation title of the article: Dublagem americana de Hajimete no Gal chama leitores de LN de nojentos tarados e etcs tl: american dub for the series Hajimete no Gal calls LN readers "disgusting", "perverted", etc Recentemente eles dublaram Hajimete no Gal, e estava tudo indo bem, mas quando chegou no sétimo episódio...Basicamente o que fizeram foi uma generalização bem ruim e ainda botaram SJW no meio. they recently dubbed the series, and everything was fine..until the 7th episode. they basically made a sweep generalization and even made a reference to SJW. A pessoa que fez a tradução de Hajimete é desconhecida, mas o pessoal está desconfiando que seja a Jamie Marchi, que trabalha na Funimation e é uma feminista conhecida. Ela se envolveu em treta primeiramente em Kobayashi-san, onde ela escreveu essa atrocidade it's not know who made the translation, but some people believe it may have been translated by Jamie Marchi, a well known feminist who works at Funi. she's know for screwing up Kobayashi-san, in which she wrote this crap .... well, i'd rather not translate the actual dialogue. i'll probably get banned if i did lol >_> so whoever wants to check, it's in episode 7 if the source is accurate, they really just gave the middle finger to the otaku community. or to those who read LN anyways. the source does seem to show that they turned what was supposed to be a joke into bashing them. hint: they call LN readers as losers and having a small....ok enough info already. you probaly got the point. |

Honestly, it seems weirdly appropriate for Hajimete No Gal's adaptation when it comes to what I have seen. I still say "respect the source material", although, Hajimete No Gal's adaptation clearly did not do so with respects to the original work in the first place, to be honest. Honestly, even if it is an anime that one is not a fan of, I think dubbing of this nature should be frowned upon, if what the OP states is true. Or radically different dubbing of any sort, to be real here. Stop this localization bullshit. |

News Flash: The OP is flat-out WRONG After much delving, I have discerned the truth of this matter. Yes, there is a character who talks about SJWs and "cucks." However, it is NOT directed at otakus/LN readers. There's a perverted cosplay cafe manager who is trying to get his teenage staff to read graphic sex scenes from light novels aloud to the customers. When the protagonist objects to him using the girls for something so overtly degrading, the manager calls him a "cuck" and "SJW." Although the manager is serious, Funimation clearly intended the line as a joke, and the line isn't even directed at otakus to begin with. So, the source the OP linked is straight-up lying. For those of you interested in seeing the actual source, it's at around time stamp 17:20, with extra context before. Disclaimer: The extra context is the girls reading sex scenes aloud. Link generously provided by DreamingBeats: DreamingBeats said: here's the link to the episode in question, if anyone cares https://www.funimation.com/shows/my-first-girlfriend-is-a-gal/my-first-job/ In related news, this episode of Hajimete no Gal is the most painful thing I've watched in ages. I am more a literalist, depending on the anime. To me, it seems to create an interest in anime under false pretense as well as a dependency on dubbing, but that is my rambling. I am having flashback of 4kids censoring a riceball with a submarine sandwhich, and I am still angered at how they altered it as if multiculturalism or something would prove fatal to Americans. Not so much exact dialogue as context, I suppose, though Hajimete....man, what are they going to do with the fat fuck Minoru, whose sole purpose is being a comedic pedophile? Eh, I guess you are right. This show is literally trash. |

Phendrus said: News Flash: The OP is flat-out WRONG After much delving, I have discerned the truth of this matter. Who makes this bilge? @thewiru: if you have any sense of responsibility in you, you will revise your OP to reflect the fact that this was a false rumor so that you may quell the misinformation you spread. oh man, you are the hero we need but not what we deserve... your sacrifice will not in vain... at least, you make 1 person belive to avoid hajimete no gal... |

Yeah, getting called a nasty shit by what I'd be seeking for entertainment is absolutely nothing to get upset over. I personally love it when something I want to have fun with just begins attacking my character in a way that's entirely unsolicited and unnecessary. Who makes this bilge? @thewiru: if you have any sense of responsibility in you, you will revise your OP to reflect the fact that this was a false rumor so that you may quell the misinformation you spread. It should be noted that there's a line specifically talking about the people who visit cosplay cafes and the like: "Plus, most of the freaks who come in here hate women and seeing girls degraded gives them boners and makes them happy." "Maybe think about how these girls feel for once. Maybe they don't want to be degraded just so you can sell a few more chicken wings to horny losers with mommy issues." It's pretty difficult for me to believe that it isn't being insulting, honestly, given exactly what they say and the context they say it in >_> I do believe that it's completely admonishable behavior to force an employee to read things that they clearly aren't comfortable with aloud in public, and that's not what I'm arguing per se, but at the same time I'm not exactly certain they weren't trying to be degrading via projection of intents, beliefs, and personal histories just because there are people who like seeing attractive women do cosplay and go/would like to go to a place like a cosplay cafe. I feel like the issue taken in the OP was kind of misaimed, but I feel this defense of it as being a kind of misaimed as well, y'know? I can't escape the impression based on some of the dialogue that it's still much more malicious in nature than what you're ascribing to it here. |
