THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Episode 1 is out on CR. It pretty much begins from where episode 0 left off.

The scientists decides to use a robot to investigate. Smart move imo to reduce risks.
Pretty weird episode. Apparently, the cube has very impressive defenses even so that the military can't put a dent on it while a mysterious being emerges. A lot of questions need to be answered so I really hope the rest of the answers will fill in the blanks.

Just a strange episode so far.

CGI is surprisingly done well.

Remided me of GATE. Had a similar vibe with a portal to another world opened.. although this is different of course. Loving the art and CG. Very intrigued to see how this goes, but not gonna get my hopes up too high.

Good start.

I like this kind of cgi
But why did they do cgi + 2D characters sometimes in the same scene ? come on if you want cgi in your anime do it all the time!

The CG is pretty good. It doesn't bother me. A huge cube came from the sky and crushed an airplane. Thankfully no one died. It's smart to use drones and robots to get close to it. A tank shell couldn't damage it at all. Then a strange guy came out of it. Cool series so far.

I was expecting this to be in full 3DCG so the fact that it's not makes me really happy....Especially because the mixture between CG and 2D actually blends well in this

But man, I had no hopes for this since it's Toei but the fact that it was an original series, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I must say that so far, this has been pretty nice

The setup and presentation has been laid out very well and episode 0 did a good job introducing us to the characters too so now I'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes

Really nice start Toei, really nice

Kind of reminds me of Arrival from last year, except way trippier. It probably won't go the same eventual direction, but I'm intrigued to see where it does go.

Nice to see full/mostly CGI TV anime improving visually. Seems to be well-used with the cube especially, but the characters and objects look passable as well.

The CG and the 2D blended quite well, in my opinion. Although there is some scenes where you notice it and it is like the characters are living in different dimensions XD
Well, paint me interested. Some weird giant structures appear in the middle of the city kinda reminds me of the movie "Arrival" o-o

I have no opinion about this yet. It's not bad, but I need to know more to actually say something. Right now, I just...want to know what this mystery is.

Wow, it's actually much better than I expected. The CGI is great (I was really afraid of that) and the story is so interesting I really wanna know more about that cube. I'm surprised, and I can't wait to see more. :D

I agree that the CGI looks great. But I think this is also it's main flaw in this anime. While the 2d characters are sometimes fast-drawn, lacking some details etc. the CGI characters are always perfect, no matter the angle. And that makes them stand out like a sore thumb, and makes it painfully obvious what is CGI and what is not. I don't like it. If they are mixing CGI and 2D they should blend it together a little better, I think.

What a show it is! I mean.. its amazing!! and exceeded my curiosity! interesting concept! This world is really a normal place and what happens if something supernatural elements arises! And yeah they pretty much detailed this alot! Didnt expect such 2.5D Graphics from one of the oldest anime studio. Cool.

Super hyped for next episode!

[by the way, I think the idea of episode 0 and 1 airing seperately was a excelllent idea]

4.99999/5 for this episode. My mind was filled with physics and curiosity for every seconds of this show.

Interesting first episode. Reminds me of The Day the Earth Stood Still.

I'm curious, if the aliens are benevolent or malevolent.

While the CG is well done it doesn't excuse it's existence. If a show is going to be CG stick to CG only, not like the mess that was the berserk movies.

Humm, same problem as zero: Characterization. The start highlighted the gap between Shindo and Hanamori again.

And later we have overly chipper scientist - I really liked her joyous, let's break it to see what comes out of it, attitude, that I can easily see for a hyper genius scientist, but I think someone so willing to accept and think of new things in physics wouldn't be so quick to call things "kami". She would just be more excited about figuring out how to break it.

Outside of this, show has potential, but I think Zero gave away too much of the plot - alien dude is going to challange humanity to prove itself or be destroyed, super competent Shindo wil do most of the work, but in the end Hanamori will provide the last key.

Just guessing here, really really hope it doesn't go this route.

Wow this is EPIC. I'm in suspense. I have so many questions and I definitely need to see episode 0. The art style/animation has Ajin syndrome hardcore which isn't bad because I love this weird cross between 3D and 2D. In fact it looks identical to Ajin's style but it isn't the same team or company. Maybe they just use the same technology.

CANNOT wait for episode 2. This is amazing.

Definitly the most interesting first episode in a new anime this season.

People who pass on this because of retarded logic like this being from Toei and CGI are missing something that could be great.

Besides the 'Arrival' vibe, all that "japanese government trying to deal with some bizarre occurrence" really made me think about 'Shin Godzilla'

Really intriguing episode, my favorite of the season so far.

Not a fan of CG, but it was watchable.

The story is really the strong point. This show has the best 1st episode in this season for me (at the moment). It kept me interested.

I've quite enjoyed this episode and episode 0 as well. It already got me hooked and I really love the 3D CG which was really spectacular! I'm surprised to see how Toei decided to do an anime with a sci-fi genre.

It also reminded me of the movie "Arrival" which was a really good film. But back on topic, it's an interesting story with great visuals and details. I love Shindo's character. He looks like a cool guy and knows how to be a good negotiator. It makes me wonder what's in store for him as well as that silver-haired guy, Yaha-Kui.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what happens next week!

Btw does anyone think that Yaha-kui Zashunina reminds of Abe no Seimei from Sousei no Onmyouji? This dude
The way they both say "Mankind" I feel like Yaha-kui is not a human.

Also does anyone think that he

reminds of Tosaki from Ajin?

Just started watching ep 0 and i already can tell how much effort they put into this show based on this alone. NONE

ep0 - mostly boring until almost the very end.
ep1 - shooring all kinds of random shit on an alien ship sure seems like a gread idea as the first attempt of contact. and why was a modern tank shooting cannonballs lol? this show is just so damn uncreative when when it comes to anything but the cube. the alien sure doesnt look alien.

overall the cgi still irks me, the premise is interesting enough to keep me watching but the animation quality and art style are pretty terrible to look at. Visually this show is meh.

Tension rising episode with another cliff-hanger. The scientist woman character is clashing with the serious tone and is so fast to accept both new physics and divine existence...

Graphically, the 3DCGI stands out on more occasions than before due to the mix or some movements.

4/5 It will probably end up as a totally forgettable show, but for now it's a decent watch.

I don't understand the decision of turning the first episode (0) into an ONA: it was a needed introduction (the series lacks one, the perturbation element is thrown at us a few minutes in).

This wasn't on my list as planned to watch when it was announced but it most definitely is on my list now cause of how good it actually is even though the anime concept isn't anything new. The animation quality is great but ajin looking CG didn't even register with me till certain scenes looked way to out of touch with what I've normally seen non cg wise but it's bearable enough for me since I'm not a fan of heavy cgi-ization and this threads lightly on it.

I'll be giving this a chance seeing as the first episode made a good first impression
