Ah, this episode is fun. Exploring the haunted, fortune telling with Asuka, and meeting a person in a bunny outfit :D

They even had the classic cafe as well. Kumiko getting scared is priceless as hell. The Taki moment were interesting considering that we see a different side of him outside the classrooms.

Loved the first half of the episode as it covered the school cultural festival. Seeing the girls in costumes was fun. LOLed at Midori teaching Kumiko and Hazuki how to smile and the way they wanted to pull in customers through those acrobatic moves were gold. And guess who showed up as a customer when they thought they wouldn't be able to pull one in! Damn! She's beautiful!

Then Reina saying Kumiko must have been enjoying the way she was smiling despite complaining that she was drained out. But as they met Hashimoto and Niiyama sensei-tachi, they found Taki-sensei being surrounded by girls! OMG! He has become more popular amongst regular students outside the bass band ever since guiding Kitauji to the nationals! But Reina was so bold as she stepped in and blatantly lying that Hashimoto-sensei was waiting for him in the corridors. Her face was pure gold. And she wouldn't admit that she lied, well, technically speaking, she didn't (like I will buy that!).

And then Kumiko meets up with you-know-who inside the haunted house (well, Reina's classroom) and loved the moment she tugged onto Tsukamoto's shirt as he was HEARTLESSLY about to leave her behind in that dark room! But just when Tsukamoto decided to man up our beloved Reina shows up in her scary makeup! Anyone would like to guess what Tsukamoto was about to say?

And then as always, Reina brought up Tsukamoto. It wasn't coincidence, was it? BUT IT WAS! YOU TELL HER, KUMIKO! IT WAS A COINCIDENCE!

Into the second half, and Mamiko is quitting University? This is unthinkable for Kumiko because Mamiko left playing instruments (iirc, she used to play trombone, not that it's mentioned yet) because of wanting to get into a good university and now she wants to quit? The moment Mamiko said it shouldn't be Kumiko's business was pretty harsh for Kumiko (please watch episode 1 of season 1 to understand why it was so harsh).

Kumiko was so hurt that she left her home in the typhoon and unexpectedly she meets Taki-sensei in a flower store. And she even brings up his wife in the discussion as soon as she saw the ring on his ring finger (he doesn't wear it in school fyi). Obviously Taki-sensei realized it was Hashimoto who was behind the revelation. He may not look it but he is pretty observant. But the thing we learned is that Taki wants to achieve the thing he couldn't as a musician with his wife and Hashimoto, by going to the nationals and winning it with his students. Kumiko also took a glimpse of the flower he bought.

And when it seemed all calm and good as they came early to school, Midori talked about how they should practice and practice to improve themselves and then nonchalantly explains the flowers on the school ground, the same ones Taki-sensei bought. How this anime goes from normal conversations to deep thoughts amazes me. It left a bit of sadness in Kumiko's heart knowing that Taki-sensei's feelings haven't changed after all these years. Then where does it put Reina's feelings for him. As observant as he seemed, will he not realize that she is in love with him? It must have hurt her knowing her precious Reina is in for a relationship that may never come to fruition.

With all is said and done, it is now Asuka-time. Thanks for everything, senpai!

Great episode. And we are in the final couple of arcs of the story.

Taki sensei driving a Citroen Ami was interesting, the car matches him tho.
French cars always have a certain kind of personality with them.
And we learned a few things about his past again which was also nice.
The festival was also nice and a bit funny.

A more light-hearted, and inevitably weaker episode than usual this week, but the downtime is welcome. The second half introduced the major conflicts this arc will be dealing with, and I'm definitely very excited to finally get to Asuka's material. What I loved most in this episode however was how it conveyed Taki-sensei's emotions with incredible care and sensitivity.

Cute episode with the school festival

Got a little heavier half way through, but it was nice learning Taki-sensei's reasons for going to that school and advising the band.

Still curious on Kumiko and her sister's relationship and her sister's circumstances.

Kumiko's such a good girl. Looks like she has extra motivation for winning nationals and helping Taki-sensei fulfill his late wife's wishes.

Great episode again, Lovely first half. Was fun watching all the girls in different costumes.
Liked Tsukamoto and Kumiko's little haunted house moments a lot, Reina sure got them good though. xD

Hilarious how Reina just boldly walked upto Taki sensei and told him that Hashimoto was waiting for him. Those eyes, That expresion, Reina is so adorable. <3

Ah, Taki sensei's words do bring back some memories for me, The excitement of school being cancelled cause of Rain. I must say I do miss that feeling.

Really liked the second half which went into Taki sensei's motives and feelings regarding the ensemble and nationals. His emotions came across really delicately yet strongly, Respect for him for taking on his wife's wishes to win the nationals. Hope they win. :D
Nice floriography reference with the Italian Whites, "I'll always be thinking of you". Taki's a pretty cool guy. :3

I'm the only one who thinks that the scene on Reina's Spooky house was forced? (Tsukamoto and Kumiko)

but overall this episode went really fast, I can feel how this episodes start to become shorter every fucking week, but somehow they are still 24 minutes. Damn...

Interesting. Interesting. Interesting... Well, I did hoped last time that we this times from Mamiko a bit more screen time get, and we did xD And it was not less interesting... Well, this could be just a specualtion, but the reason why she wanna quit the university is maybe because she pregnant is? - Yeah, I know, it's a wildly guess...

And the conversaition between Kumiko and Taki was really deep and informative: Such sad past to carring within since years is impressive - This isn't underrate!

And we're moving slowly really to a real drama with Asuka...

Really, the series getting better and better at every new ep. I'd really wish that this at least so 20~30 additional eps. had...xD

A light episode after that crazy concert. On the festival i thought that it was finally time for Tsukamoto, but well ... and funny how it was Reina who blocked him.
Interesting about what's happening to Asuka and how it most likely connected to the woman/(her mother) in the end.

Probably the best episode of this season so far (for me)! No shoujo-ai/yuri scenes between Kumiko and Reina, no forced drama with Mizore or another character.

Good start with the band playing (even if it was short, we were able to hear some music), it was fun seeing the characters doing the maid cafe, Asuka the witch, the haunted house (lol Shuuichi and Kumiko got scared because of Reina xD), etc...
Sapphire, Hazuki and Shuuichi got more screentime =)
The second half with Mamiko wanting to stop attending her college, and Kumiko meeting with Taki sensei were also interesting.

For this episode I can say : good job Kyo Ani (and the opening is finally coloured at the start).

That was a fun episode!

I got spoiled on what really happened in the bunkasai in LN so I expected something different.. hahaha but wow Kyoani really likes Shuuchi to suffer, getting owned by Reina for the second time. Her ship with Kumiko is a joke now (just like Reina and Taki)

The taki part is kinda sad. :(

Kumiko's sis is such a bitch huh.

And now, give me some Asuka drama. I'm ready kyoani!

THE INTRO IS IN COLOR NOW!! I think it's a really nice touch that they did that.

A amazingly beautiful and great episode as usual. I'm loving this so much. That scene in the car with Taki-sensei and Kumiko was beautiful. And the soundtrack during that scene was SO GOOD. The character chemistry and development is so spot-on and is so well done. This series is seriously one of my guilty pleasures. I can't wait for next week!!

Oh god I laughed so much with this.

Aside from this damn I fucking love this show. I love all the characters, the pacing and the music of the show. As usual animation was godlike.

I think the woman at the end is Asukas mothers? It felt that Asuka is "special" from the first season. It was about time she got her own arc. Also will 3rd years compete at the nationals? That part confused me.

Taki has some good taste in cars, driving that classic Citroen. Nice! =D

It's nice to see the opening having full colour at last. It looks really good. Also, the ending shows Asuka instead of Mizore, so it looks like we're in Asuka's arc now, seeing at how the episode ended with the lady approaching the room Asuka is in. Is it her mother perhaps?

Thanks to the performance, Taki is how more popular than ever, leaving Reina jealous once again and a funny return of her dead-fish eyes expression. XD

On more serious matters, it was nice to see Taki tell Kumiko more about his past and how he met his wife and how well their concert band did in the past. For Kumiko though, it's going to be awkward for her now that her sister has decided that she wants to drop out of college for reasons that are unknown as of now. If it's something that Kumiko can help resolve, then I hope she helps her older sisters in anyway that she can so that her sister can stop running away from her problems and deal with them herself.

Another enjoyable episode and it's easy to tell at times when KyoAni decide to show off their animation talent in certain scenes. =3

A light and fun mood first half. Then sudden drown away with serious conflict with Kuniko's sister. Glad to no more about Taki-sensei, although his refraining to say more about those stuffs. I felt bad for Reina, the flowers says it"I've always thinking of you", so Taki-sensei still can't move on about hwr wife and he's depressed.

Looking foraard for the next episode, seems like an arc about Asuka, which is I been waiting for, I wonder who's the girl? her mother?her sister?.

And rightly so. That's because Asuka is a protagonist in the novel (vol.2 and vol.3) unlike the anime. She has the same significance as Reina has over the whole novel.

Some typhoon-induced backstory for Taki-sensei. And a college dropout onee-chan? Well, there are worse things in life I suppose. The ending hinted at Asuka's mom entering the story? Guess we've reached the point where the show tries to justify her terrible behavior this season.

I really enjoyed this episode very much. The first half was pretty good considering it was the school festival and all. There were some scenes I liked which included Asuka and the imitation crystal ball near the haunted house which was really funny. The other one with Tsukamoto with Kumiko as they were together was just a coincidence which to me didn't feel like it but we know that Kumiko is not really interested in him. I kind of feel sorry for the guy but oh well.

The second half I would agree was very heavy indeed. I wasn't expecting Kumiko's sister
If I were Kumiko I would probably have done the same thing and went outside to get out of the setting to clear her mind if she ended up having a fight with her. I'm glad we got to know more about Taki-sensei as that clarifies things a bit about him and his wife which I thought was really good. It felt very real as he really did think about his wife very much and I thought that was sweet. So I guess things are going as plan and it looks like near the end we will get to Asuka's side of things as the story progresses.

I think the series is moving in the right direction and I wish things will go well for them as they compete for the Nationals!

-Random school festival arc outta nowhere. Seems like this is more of a breather episode
-Oh hey Nozomi's in the band now
-For some reason Mizore was adorable greeting Reina and Kumiko at the cafe
-Wait, Hashimoto and Niiyama are back and working with the band again?
-I actually don't think I paid much attention to the character dynamic between Haruka and Asuka in the first season but the whole exchange at the fortune teller was pretty endearing
-Why does it seem like the Oumae family drama is progressing several hundred times faster than anything else in the show
-The whole atmosphere at the beginning of the flower shop scene made it seem like Taki was buying flowers for his deceased wife
-Ah there it is
-Huh, that photograph of them all in the car looks a lot like that one scene in the OP where the four people have their backs turned to the camera. I always thought the one that turned at the end of that sequence was Kaori but apparently it was Taki's wife
-L E G A C Y
-That's some heavy-hitting backstory, and it kinda makes sense how Taki was always looking at that one photograph while guiding the band through the preliminaries in the first season.
-Even more so with the flower language
-After rewatching that one scene in the OP, it's actually pretty blatantly obvious that Taki was one of the people walking into the sunlight and I just hadn't bothered to notice. I just always assumed that the three people on the right were Gotou, Kaori, and Asuka. I dunno, I still see some resemblance to Kaori.

The moment that stood out the most was definitely the brief backstory on Taki's wife since it gave context to nearly all of his actions in the show. I was under the impression that he was spending so much effort on the Kitauji band for his own satisfaction throughout season one, but this episode made it clear that he was acting out of the memory of his wife, which is really adorable. I especially liked how they didn't outright reveal the photograph that Taki periodically stared at until this episode. either that or it went over my head in the first season I just like it when a show intentionally withholds information initially, and when it's finally revealed, everything makes sense, and that's what happened in the last half of this episode. Festival activities were pretty standard and mostly not noteworthy, but some charm behind some of the characters definitely manifested itself there.

Lets win Nationals.

You mean winning Gold in the Nationals. This can be a bit confusing but there is no 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in the prefecture-level/regional/nationals. Each school is given a grade but the actual points earned are not made public. For example, if five schools get more than 80 points, they will each be given the Gold. But if say for example, only the top three would be allowed to go through, the panel of adjudicators would use the points to select which teams would progress and which teams would not. However, the points of the top 3 is not disclosed so it's impossible to determine the 1st, the 2nd or the 3rd.

In the regional competition (as well as in the prefecture-level), it picks the top few to go through. Again, there's no 1st, 2nd or 3rd. It is the top few for the region (same as in the prefecture level) and I think it varies from region to region depending on the number of contenders in that region in that year. It so happened that Kansai would pick only top three for this year in the anime given the number of contenders in that region.

In the nationals, the ultimate prize is to win a Gold since there is no further progression required beyond the Nationals. The Gold is shared between multiple schools and there is no 1st, 2nd or 3rd. The challenge is to become One of the best performers NOT the best performer.

Kumiko and Shuuichi have no chemistry, and Kumiko barely even acknowledges his existence. The whole show has people finding the courage of their convictions, and it would feel contradictory to deny the sentiment she's vocalised since the first episode: that she has no interest in him. There's just no justification for them to have a relationship.

Particularly that scene frustrated me, since Kumiko has generally given Shuuichi the cold shoulder; I would've thought she would be too proud to rely on him. The fact that he didn't know she didn't like scary things only made them seem more distant and less like childhood friends than ever.

I liked this episode. It is nice that we got to know more about Taki-sensei's past with his wife. I think it's beautiful but also sad how he still can't let go of the past. From the look of things, Reina has no chance. Well, I'm not complaining as I don't really ship her with anyone.

I've always loved Shuichi/Kumiko but it is irritating how Kumiko ignores him. I can understand those who say that this relationship might seems forced and it's mostly due to lack of interactions between the two, but I still love their very few interactions.

From the previous episode, I've had a feeling that Kumiko's sister has a problem and this episode kind of confirms it. The first thing that came to my mind is that she is pregnant especially with the way she got back home leaving her stuff on the floor. She looked kind of lost and scared.

This. It makes no sense at all to me that all of a sudden she would rely on him like that. It came out of left field and it feels like its only there to satisfy the source material. This show is in my top ten rn but I'll be crushed if they end up pairing them. It will sour the whole show for me, and its honestly infuriating. Why introduce all this fucking subtext? Excellent episode. The lighting this episode really contrasted the brighter, fun, happy-times of the festival with the more drab-colored scheme to emphasize the more serious mood.
